Set wardrobe

That's the aim, but there's a house full of them and it's a lot of sewing, or hunting for very specific styles/sizes that might or might not exist so the best reply is probably, "Not yet."

Heh, I am proud when every one of my dolls even has ONE outfit, and is dressed!

Goals, though! Would love for them to each have some seasonal clothes for instance, like holiday outfits.

 

That is the plan for my crew. I'm kitting out each of my dolls with - at the very least - modern casual wear with summer and winter variants, a kimono, and a formal suit. I'm getting there - my older dolls have all those outfits, the newer ones need me to sew them (mainly kimono, my sewing skills are minimal) or buy them. I like doing this a lot because I shell characters with my dolls, I like to dress them in the same kind of wardrobe and enjoy how each character expresses their individuality through their clothing style.

The pipe dream that probably won't happen is to give each of them a cyberpunk outfit, and some kind of science-fantasy (think Final Fantasy) type of outfit. I don't have sewing skills to realize that vision, so that dream will probably stay in my imagination and at most drawing/sketches.

 

Yes! Four of my BJDs are the same size from the same sculptor, so there's one big wardrobe they all share from. I have enough for all of them to wear things like pajamas, fantasy clothing, and casual clothing for different seasons at the same time. I think the one thing I'm definitely missing is formal attire for all four, but I feel like it's a little difficult to find formal clothing for BJDs outside of SD sizes to begin with for some reason. I'm still working on building out my Baby Kumako's wardrobe since she's a newer doll, but eventually I would like to have a large wardrobe for her as well. My Momonita has a HUGE selection to pick from because her size is amazing for clothing. It's the shoes I've been struggling with for her!

 

I have some mix and match pieces for my Minifees. Mostly spring or summer clothes. I’ve been wanting to add fall/winter clothes for them. I keep thinking of sewing a winter coat, but I know that will be fiddly. Coats are hard I’m slowing knitting sweaters and other knitwear as well.

Some of my dolls only wear one outfit, so at least some dolls are finished lol

 

I think I can say - to some extent - yes. Most of my dolls borrow clothes from each other. But there are outfits meant for a specific doll, like bartender's apron or skyship mechanic's coveralls. So I can say the work uniforms are fixed and casual clothes can be exchanged. And most of them have their own underwear. Giving them proper garments is quite slow process in my case so only two of my MSD boys have winter clothes.

 

I'm slowly working on wardrobes for most of my dolls, but I don't have a checklist for each outfit, I just sew new stuff when I feel like it. Mostly when seasons change- then they get a new, more appropriate outfit for that new season. I haven't gotten to sleepwear and formal clothes yet though, because I'm new at sewing and often decide to re-make their outfit pieces with some of my improved skills instead of tackling a new garmentI also don't give underwear to the tinies.

They don't share, however- each doll has their own clothes that are only for them.

 

I have about eight SD-sized nightgowns cut out and part made for my Victorian girls that are slowly moving toward completion whenever I remember they exist and do a little work on them before gettign distrated by another project (again).

And there are ten Victorian style bathing-costumes (each in a dolls' signature colour) in a similar state, and likewise, ten gingham dresses... {SIGH!} Too many dolls. Too many ideas. Not enough ability to stick with a project until it's complete without gettitng distracted.

And I'm not as fond of making boy clothes as I am of making girl clothes so my poor boys are lagging behind the girls in terms of their wardrobe accumulation.

@Teddy good luck with them! I saw some of your pictures a while ago, and I love the signature colors of your girls I only have one off-topic girl, but I do agree that dresses look much more fun to make than boy clothes. I'm overcompensating by planning lots of frills and lace for him when my resin boy comes home tho

When I first got into this wonderful hobby, it was all about fashion exploration for me. So I began sewing whatever fashion style caught my eye, and then developing a character who would wear that specific style. Needless to say that meant shelling a plethora of characters over the years. So I have to say yes, my dolls all have their own set of clothing…but it is more a stylistic set than a seasonal, formal, casual or sleepwear one. After so many years I’ve amassed a fairly large collection of dolls, but very few share clothing because their individual styles differ so greatly from one another. Each doll has a personal wardrobe of anywhere from 3-5 full outfits (and some even have more.)

 

Not yet, but I want her to. Building it little by little, but I don't even have a full outfit yet (she's technically fully clothed, but I want her to have stockings, a petticoat, and other accessories for her main outfit; I have a commissioned outfit in the works thanks to a very talented friend). I know I'll really enjoy dressing her for different activities...it's just going to be a slow, expensive process.

 

Sort of, in that most of them have outfits that are a pain to get on and off, so once they're in them, they're staying in it. The perils of being a sucker for fantasy outfits.

The rest kind of have pieces that are "theirs", but most of the clothes are shared, except for the girls, who are on completely opposite sides of the width spectrum. I'd like to get more personal outfits for them but at my collection size it's an Endeavor.

 

This is the dream! One of my dolls I want to get kitted out with a more elaborate wardrobe, as they have several different eras of life, but I am still very much in the patternmaking stage, so that's a bit of a pipe dream right now. I especially want to figure out how to make my own shoes for them to go with the outfits, since I've had trouble finding shoes to purchase in their size that match what I want.

 

So, yes, though some are still in different stages of progress, ultimately all of my dolls end up with a full wardrobe which rivals the practical functionality and personality of a living person's wardrobe.
Over the years I think I have never bought the same body twice, so I would draft patterns for everyone individually (some clothes will work on different bodies of the same size range of course). Some articles of clothing might be shared among different characters but each character would mix and match pieces in their own way. I tend to store doll clothes in character bags so if I want to dress someone I pick from their own wardrobe at the time. But the dolls have enough clothes that they have some other real people problems -- too much to choose from and redundancy. Because of this, just like myself I periodically go through and prune each character wardrobe, moving some pieces between dolls and moving pieces I love especially out of character wardrobes into "the pile" -- an unclaimed pool I will have to pick from later if I want. Sometimes items get removed from my collection altogether when I have decided they simply are not useful/desirable enough anymore/only cause clutter or frustration.
I look back on myself and these many hours and many years devoted to giving these dolls as many outfits as living people and it's pretty extreme! But for some reason this is crucial to my enjoyment of the hobby. The wardrobes don't have to be huge but I am happiest when each doll has a satisfying wardrobe with their own personality.
Now someone mentioned shoes... We just do our best with shoes. That's something I don't make myself so we just invest in decent versatile shoes and use them on any doll who likes them until they fall apart.

 

I like keep the amount of things related to my hobbies minimal, so my dolls sleep and live in their best looking outfit If things were different, I would definitely love to have different outfits for each.

 

Everyone has a smattering of clothes they share, but there are some pieces I see as theirs in particular. Nikki has her fullset outfit. Clover's had to share a couple of her pieces, blouses in particular, but otherwise is the only one with lolita stuff. Tian Ni has a custom hanfu I bought just for her as well as her glasses.

I originally aimed to have pajama pieces for everyone, but I've fallen behind on that. There's still a number of sweatpants hanging around, but not nearly enough pieces for everyone. There's a number of sweaters and cardigans, though, so winterwear is covered, hah.

My collection is complete at just two dolls who are shelled OCs. Currently, I'm at the stage of being a clothing shopaholic and I fear I'm just hoarding all the goth and all-black clothing styles I can get my hands on. After I settle down on that (and can actually find clothes for my gender-neutral styled girl (!!) ) , then I'll work on their wardrobe just like their Sims counterparts.
