Several Heads for One Doll?

Jul 31, 2009

    1. Ok, recently I've been thinking about changing my girl's faceup when it dawned on me that what if after a while, I get tired of the new faceup and want to go back to the old one (for example: a certian wig/pair of eyes might go great with one faceup, but not with the other).

As I was thinking about this, the thought of having a couple of the same head (even sleeping heads) but with different faceups came to mind, I thought it would be a great idea because it would give you more options and it would be easier to change the head then to change the whole faceup.

So what do you think? Would having two or three of the same head with different faceups would be a good idea? Is it worth the extra money? Maybe you've already done this for your dolls?

    2. I think it would be a great idea if you like to be able to change the over all feel or character of the doll. Personally I dont know if I would do this or not...I'm just not at that stage in my collecting as yet

    3. Minifees come with the option of purchasing a sleeping head cheaply with it, so it's not uncommon to have both an "awake" and "sleeping" minifee (though it seems most people end up making two separate dolls from them). Heck, with the variations available there, you could conceivably end up with elf, vampire, sleeping, awake, modded, etc. versions of the same doll. Part of the reason this works very well for minifees is that their heads are VERY easy to change. I don't think that's a bad idea at all. The Akando pierrot came with two heads, so you could do with stage makeup and without (and two different sculpts, at that).

I haven't done this personally, but I would consider it in the future.

    4. i plan to order (when i saved up) my dz hid with an extra head and hands as i want to mod the head into a sleeping/ almost sleeping head. i am planning on modding the hands to give me some more options for posing.

i also plan to do the same with the next doll i order d.o.c too with an extra too head. (bee-a is going to a relative).

until then i just make odd things for my boys ^^

i am unlikely to order any dolls until christmas though.

    5. Aha, I had this same thought for my Io, because I have a good 2-3 face-ups for him in mind---however, considering he's a limited sculpt, I'm not so sure how practical this would be for me, money-wise. :sweat

I plan on buying an Iplehouse Freezia someday soon, as well as getting her "gentle Freezia head"----same doll, one body, not necessarily two different face-ups, but at least two different expressions! <3

Overall though, I think multiple heads for different face-ups/expressions is a great idea! I mean, we can change their clothes and hair everyday---why not their "make-up"?;)

    6. thats sweet ^^

with mine i plan on making their face ups identical on the awake head & sleeping head, after all both of the heads are being the same character ^^

but i don't know if i would do it to a limited doll or not.

i plan to do photostories with them.

i would do more but until i can aford to do it they will both have a awake head and a sleeping head each ^^

    7. I do this all the time. I'll sometimes buy the same head mould and have it modded to have a diferent expression, that company doesn't make face plates.

    8. I would have loved to get a sleeping head with my girl, just for the added options, but it wasn't available anymore when I ordered her. Oh well.

I think it is a good idea. ^_^
You could even do one head "without makeup" (i.e. just the eyebrows and lashes and such) and then you could add coordinating makeup for each outfit onto it with pastels. That would be fun.

    9. i wish that was possible ^_^ for me....but it will be hard to attain a few of the same kind if they're limited or very expensive...T_T

    10. My Ios share one body. At first, I had them on separate bodies, but decided this would be the more economical way to have them. XD In the future, I may even get in on some Soom monthly splits to purchase other heads for the body to switch out.

    11. I'm so glad you asked this question!

I was thinking of doing this with the next doll on my wish list - a Peak's Woods Wake-up Cue - and then also getting a regular Cue head, if it's still available.

I also was just checking out the Iplewood site last night, and noticed Silvia and love her. She also has a sleeping version, and I find the idea of doing photo stories very fun. But I'd worry about having the money up front for the purchase all at the same time, since the heads might not be available later.

So glad to hear of other people doing this!

    12. My problem is that I see each head as a separate individual, so I don't think it would work for me, though I can see the advantages of doing that.

    13. I have one doll like this, and plan on two, as soon as I can find someone selling the head at the same time I have money to buy it. The two are my older characters, and so I want a young version of both them with non-wrinkled faces. I only consider each head a different 'entity' when it's not the same sculpt.

    14. We tried to do it, but it had not worked out. It's one head = one person for us too. It IS a good opportunity to play with image though...

    15. ive actually tried this. it didnt work out. the head is in the process of getting its own body to become my 3rd Kara Klum and the 5th doll i own for 1 character. yes, i am obsessed.

    16. My Ryung has 5 heads -- all the same person. She has her "normal" head, a dreaming head, and a sleeping head, and then I have two more open-eyed heads that I plan to have different faceups on.

She essentially has a natural look, but I want one of the heads to be more glamourous and made-up look. I don't want her to look like that all the time, but sometimes it's nice! The last one I might eventually mod for a slightly different expression.

After all, we don't have the same expression or look all the time, why should our dolls? Or that's how I see it, anyway.

    17. If you can afford it and would prefer a small amount of dolls instead of a lot then go for it. It would be interesting to see as it's fairly uncommon. Even with the Sleeping heads some companies do, people rarely use it as two heads, and instead make twins.

When I had a sleeping version of F-15's head I made it into a triplet, there was no way I could see it as being my F-15 or old F-27. Skin color not matching didn't facilitate that either  but even if he had been white..no.

    18. I know I'm planning on getting a sleeping head with my Minifee that will be the same character as the regular head. I could see myself using the system the OP is considering.

    19. Yes this is a wonderful idea , that's why I adore when a head can be sold separately ... I already done it with my 2nd aletheia eternity & have plans for extra heads with different face ups for the other dolls too...

    20. Sure! I do this to the "extra" option heads that I receive with my Iplehouse fullsets. Samir is a Gentle Tan Soo Ri, but he also has an open-eyed regular Tan Soo Ri head that he wears sometimes. Karim usually wears his open-eyed Tan Lion head, but he also has a Dreaming head. Bijan has a basic normalskin Akando head for every day, and he has a Smiling Gentle-eyed Pierrot Makeup head when he wants to dress up like a harlequin. :XD: I don't swap the heads very often, but I do like to use them in photostories sometimes. When you change a character's head suddenly, it can make a really nifty effect. Samir can open his eyes suddenly in surprise... Bijan might come home after a circus show & take his makeup off... Karim can fall asleep, or wake up, or *cough* close his eyes in a paroxysm of something-or-other....

You can have one head with Super-Glam Faceup A, when your girl feels like wearing heavy makeup; then you can have another head with Plain Faceup B, when she is in a low-key mood. Or, you can get a second body & turn her into twins. Or make her a clone. Or maybe it's just a totally unrelated person who happens to look similar. It's only limited to your imagination.
