Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Shiny face up - does it happen to you ofthen and are you bothered by it?

Feb 14, 2015

    1. Over the years of being a bjd owner I have never been able to avoid small shiny marks on a dolls face (e.g. the tip of the nose or shiny scratches on the forehead) no matter how carefull I was. I could not help but being frustrated each time it happened. So I wanted to know what you think about it. How ofthen do you notice parts of your dolls faces turning shiny and does it bother you a lot? Do you take care of it (sealant) or just leave it the way it is? And do you consider it a damage?

    2. MSC is ur freind

    3. I know that depending on the area it 'would' bother me and I would definitely attempt to fix it as well as possible. It's most certainly damage too... One of my favorite faeups got ruined by humidity and touching his face protector while being stored away and I definitely need to send him to get fixed at some point... I feel like a horrible owner that I let that happen...

    4. I do my faceups with acrylic paint, soooo yeah, they're shiny anyway.

    5. How do you prevent a shinny face-up even tho you use Mr. Clear Matt?

    6. Shiny faceups really bother me, and I would consider it damage and redo it.

Usually, if you're using MSC Matte and it's still coming up shiny, it's because either you're spraying it too close and too heavy, or because the weather is too humid. If you wait for a day that isn't humid and spray each layer very lightly and about 12" from the head, you'll probably get better results.

    7. I'm not generally bothered by it unless I can see it very easily.

I have one girl who I used those little metal hair clips on, which damaged the faceup. I didn't notice it for a while, until I took her wig off one day, to see that there were a lot of really bad scratches along both of her temples. I was able to ignore it for a while, until I swapped her wig out for a new one; it hung a little differently on her head, so the scratches showed up more. And that was the point when I decided she needed a new faceup. :P

But then on the other hand, I have a few others who are shiny or scratched/chipped somewhere, and for those, I am OK ignoring it for now. I have a centaur, who has a chip in the sealant right around the horn hole on his head, but his wig covers it, so I can ignore it.
And then I have two other boys, who both have a bit of a shiny nose - there is no super-definite line where the sealant ends, so their noses just look a teensy bit shiny at the very tip. I suppose I could easily cover up most of the face, and re-spray just on the nose area, but to me it's small enough that it doesn't warrant the extra work. :3
