Small dolls with older/adult characters?

Dec 17, 2014

    1. I was wondering if anyone else had this dilemma; most of my tiny dolls' characters are 18-mid 20's age-wise, and the doll is a cute representation of them. I love the cute aesthetic, but it seems like a general "creepy" thing to have 1/6th couples, or at least smaller dolls portraying adults. Anyone else have adult characters shelled into tinies? Any opinions? (mature tinies are excluded, because they have the proportions of larger dolls)

    2. I can't think of any specific owners off-hand, but I've seen a lot of people who have tiny versions of their big dolls with all the same relationships, they're just smaller and more portable. As long as you dress them and portray them as their age, it doesn't come across as so strange (or if you mention it somewhere).

I will say, from my perspective, the tinies who dress like little kids and are in (sometimes very) adult relationships do make me uncomfortable though... it's a bit off-putting.

    3. I find it creepy seeing dolls that look like children dressed in in adult style clothes, with faceups that look like they're wearing makeup and portrayed in adult relationships/situations.

But then it's a side of the whole BJD aesthetic that I find creepy and off-putting, not matter the size of the doll - sculpts with child faces on bodies with mature figures/huge boobs etc. I guess it's why I've never got into Anime or Manga.

    4. Mr Charming is supposed to be an adult... yet he's only 19cm tall. tops. xD; I don't particularly find it creepy or anything... Then again he 'is' a robot cat alien so I'm not sure if it counts all that much?

    5. About half or so of my tinies are "chibis" of some of my adult characters (I also have the dolls in MSD size, and two of the characters have been shelled as well as SDs). As such, their ages range from 15 to 22. I generally do my best to find "adult" clothing for them (mostly by searching for clothing available in a range of sizes), keep their eye sizes as small as they can go, and stick to a more mature/less childlike or "innocent" look to their faceups to help convey that they're not children.

I do have one couple amongst the group so far (there's a possibility of adding some more of the spouse/partner characters down the road after some other doll priorities are handled); because of the "creepy" factor, however, I tend to stick with cute poses for them, and leave the more suggestive stuff for their larger counterparts. (Even I think it's kind of creepy to pose them suggestively, because of their body styles, but I do enjoy the cute poses with them.)

    6. Ahhh Soenatte your Mr. Kitty is ADORABLE!

And yes, I agree that posing "chibified" adult characters suggestively feels creepy to me; my one couple just holds hands and look generally cute together. Then again, I also don't do a whole lot in the way of sexy posing with my larger dolls *shrugs*

Almost all of the tiny adult characters I have I'm talking about are Soom teenie gems, for reference. I think on the whole they look more mature than other tinies, so it's easier for me to imagine them as adults (or at least adolescents) to the point where upon getting a new one, it becomes an automatic response. My other tinies who are generally chubbier and more baby-faced however, are children.

    7. All of my Pukifees are nature spirits (devas,) so they're all mature characters. Since they're from the faerie realm, they don't always dress in contemporary styles, but I try to find/make more mature styles of clothing for them. For one of them in particular (Aura, My PKF Luna,) the fact that she looks very sweet and delicate and young but is in fact a force of nature to be reckoned with has become part of her character.

    8. I'm a Detective Conan fan so I have no problems at all with tiny dolls who represent adults. I also have no issues with couples either, so long as things are kept PG.

    9. This is not something I would do. For one, I don't collect tinies, but I already know that dolls who are made up to look like adults are unsettling to me. Tinies with very stylized features that are meant to be ageless-fairies, sprites, angels, robots. etc. are a little different and I'm more accepting of them, but that's usually because they are still made up with a more fantasy style than a very realistic adult. The closest I have come to considering something similar to this is using tinies to represent the child forms of my bigger, adult dolls.

    10. All of my Pukis are adults. They're "chibis" of my larger dolls. They dress like adults - most of them have identical outfits to their larger selves. I honestly can't look at a Puki and think it's a child, it just looks like a chibi to me XD
I also have an SQ Labs Chibi who is another "chibi" of one of my larger dolls. He's an adult, and YO sized - finding him clothes is a PIMA, but still fun. I have another doll I made a "chibi" but he has to have his clothes made. I've taken one photo of one of them with really chibified alcohol but no other adult situations since I don't have girls for him XD

It doesn't bother me. TBH larger dolls with child-like faces and super-ridiulous muscular bodies bother me more :\

    11. I have small dolls that have more mature bodies. They fit just fine with my MSDs. They just have a more Peter Pan and Tinkerbell look to them than a couple of the same size.

    12. That's actually a really good way of putting it, StacheRabbit!

    13. I have a character that is thousands of years old but she's cursed and stuck in a young child's body so I shelled her as a YOSD. Does that count?
I also use the same doll to play a younger version of another one of my characters. She's got a group of bodyguards protecting her who all have the hots for her. Because she acts like a grownup...sometimes they forget she's just a kid *cough*

    14. There are tinies with fully mature bodies; Chiclines, for instance. They look just fine as couples.
