It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Something neat about the Volks LA Limiteds

Nov 21, 2005

    1. Did you know that the Volks LA limiteds are based directly on a group of limiteds that were some of the very first that Volks ever created?

When I saw Mai (ie Liz) I immediately recognized her kimono as very similar to an early Volks limited called "Taisho Romance".

      Look at Mai :

now look at Taisho Romance Megu, one of the very first Volks Limiteds from 2001 (she was limited to 50):
      http://denofangels.com/sd/taisho2.jpg

The reason I recognized the kimono fabric was because when I first got into SDs, Taisho Romance had already just sold out, (not like I could have goten her anyway, then it was almost impossible for people not living in Japan to get SD, not to mention limiteds!). I'd looked for Taisho Romance Megu for a while and then gave up on her. Eventually I moved on. But I'd recognize that kimono anywhere! Also her wig was extremely similar to a wig that was on one of the really early limiteds, and hasn't been produced for years.

Then today, when those of us who got the limiteds got the actual boxes, it actually said "Taisho Romanticism Version Mai" on her box. It just gave me this pang in my heart! (I ended up being lucky enough to get Mai.)

And then one of my friends was very lucky to get Shizu, and hers said "Coming of Age". And then something clicked in my head. I realized that Volks was intentionally trying to do a throw back to those first very special limiteds that they did.

Look at Coming of Age Shizu:

and now look at these two 2001 limiteds, Coming of Age Nono and Megu:

      The kimono is identical!

Tai is also very similar to a previous volks early limited of that time period.

All of these volks limiteds were released before there were ANY boy dolls. that's how long ago it was!

I think that Volks was trying to do something very special for us with these limiteds, something very personal and nostalgic.
I know that some people were not able to attend today, and that some of us who attended were not lucky, but for those of you who were lucky enough to attend and get the doll you wanted, I hope you realize how special this event was and how special these dolls are. Volks could have just put out any old doll and we still would have bought them all, I'm sure, but I think they tried to make something very special for us.

To go from loving these dolls in 2001, and having them so very hard to get, to now being able to buy Taisho Romance in a store near me, in my own country, with the President himself there, and doll artists from Volks actually there to welcome us,... it really is unbelievable. I'm so very grateful.

    2. oh, how lovely...

      that's a very beautiful sentiment.

Creates somewhat of a connection between the beginnings of volks itself, and the beginnings of their more formal expanse internationally.

    3. aw, that's so sweet!

    4. Wow, thank you for posting all this! What a wonderful thing ^_^

    5. That's so wonderful Volks did that. It's such a sentimental gesture and lovely. A year ago I wouldn't have believed there would be a Volks store in the US, but now there is. Volks really does value us as customers or they wouldn't have made their creations available for us. :D

    6. That's so sweet! Volks does the nicest things for their customers. ^^

    7. I recognized the kimono too (I actually saw a Taisho Romance Megu in Volks when I was in Japan, and fell in love with her, just as you did, Aimee!)

This was such a sweet thing to do! How I wish I could have been there!

      Congratulations!

    8. Janne, I think you are just about the only other person on this board (barring maybe 2 or 3 others) who would even recognize that kimono! So I know you know what I mean! I know we've been emailing each other over the years about Taisho Romance... XD~

I'm very sorry that you couldnt make it, it would have been nice to see you again

    9. That really is sweet how they're commemorating the event with a nod to the past ^_^

    10. Wow what a wonderful and sweet thing to do :)

    11. Akisan's Shizune was one of those Megu. I have loved his introductory pictures of her for years.

You USA people are so lucky. Australia is simply too small a market for Volks to ever consider.

    12. That is so incredible sweet! I really want to go there some time in my life... It's more than just a shop, it's the whole experience...

    13. Thanks Aimee for putting it all together. Now those dolls are extra extra special for the lucky few who got them.

    14. Even so, I didn't make the connection with all the dolls until you pointed it out - then I could see it clearly!

These are indeed very special dolls for you lucky few!!!

And I hope I get to see you there at some future event, Aimee! :D

    15. Very Sweet ! Thank you Animee for letting us know how special these dolls are. I respect and love Volks even more now.

Saw quite a few dolls from LA Volks opening are on ebay right now. Stunning dolls but also feeling sad that the owners are giving them up for adoption (or for money). :(:(

    16. Being able to get Shizu was so special to me because of the dear friends who helped me out and my loving husband standing next to me through it all. Even more special was the fact that she is "coming of age" version, because when we went to Japan or our honeymoon, and again last year, we were there over Coming of Age day.

    17. HA! When I first saw Mai's wig the only thing I could think of was "Coming of age Nono". I never really paid much attention to the kimonos, but aye, I am and always will be a true Nono fanatic.. XD

    18. I was noticing that with the Nono miko one, I didn't put the connection between the others though. x3 !!!

I love Volks. x3 I want to hug their president sometimes, just run up and full out glomp him to near death. They make me very happy. (^_^) Too bad he wouldn't appreciate being glomped... x3 Ahh well. (^__^) ::waves flag:: We <3 you!!!

I love these little reminders about the past of Volks, how far BJDs have came. It's neat, when you look at your doll of any company and remember where they came from, and now what's going on in the future, I can't even wait to see. (^__^)

    19. That's such a sweet concept... and what a treat for the real BJD oldies. ^^

    20. Wow! Thank you so much, Aimee, for pointing this out! What a neat thing! Now, I'm even happier that I was lucky enough to get a ticket for Tae and decided to break the bank to get her!:D
