1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Soom Gem bodies...what's the problem?

Jun 5, 2009

    1. I may be interested in a Soom Gena or Kyrie. However, I'm noticing lots of posts looking for alternate bodies, and many posts where the body switch has already taken place.

As an owner of two DoC dolls, I know it can be just a matter of opinion, or of sueding.

Please share with me what you like or dislike about the 60cm girls' bodies.
And on that note, how are the boys' bodies?

      Thanks!

    2. I don't own one but there is one in our local group. I think the female body is quite attractive, one of the few I like actually, and she seems to pose quite well. I think the main reason there are so many hybrid soom dolls is price. People want the heads, but want a cheaper body option. Especially with the monthly dolls.

    3. Soom bodies are great! I have an LE Super Gem and he rocks my world! However, for his companion open-eyed head, Soom doesn't sell their Super Gem bodies separately unfortunately. Therefore, I had to make a hybrid. I lucked out though with a Souldoll Double body because I wanted this particular character to be slightly shorter than his brother. :)

    4. Thanks! I'd like to see if I can get some more opinions, but glad to see it's positive so far. :)

    5. I have a Soom Kyrie on the normal body and I think it's a really nice body. Hybrids are not normally done because of quality but rather price, or if the body doesn't quite match in your mind what you had wanted. For example, the bust of the Gem is quite big and perky *lol* which some people might not be keen on.

I have always found her to be very poseable, always stood very well and fits nicely in pretty much all SD clothing I have bought for her.

    6. I have no complaints whatsoever of the Soom bodies. My experience is limited with female Soom bodies, but in general I find them beautiful, modest, and they all have nice thighs. I had a male Soom body and likewise, it was gorgeous. My problem was that it did not suit my character, but I think that if you look around, many people on the forum have actually forsaken thier Luts bodies for Soom ones for thier Luts heads, so it works both ways. The resin quality is nice and the colour is exquisite. Matches well with Luts. (In all actuality, the male Luts versus Soom bodies aren't all that different. But the newer Type 3 boys have slimmer underbellies, which I prefer, just slightly.)

Oh. There is one complaint. Soom versus Luts boy hands. The Soom hands (the ones I am holding in the picture) are 'daintier' and to me, don't look as proportional as the Luts ones do to the body. But other than that? Perfect. Would have a gaggle of them if I had more SD sized dolls.

    7. I have been extremely happy with the female *Gem* body that I have (I started with a whole Romantic Dillui, but wound up selling the head and keeping the body.)

The *Super Gem* bodies (Beryl, Onyx) are not as much to my taste, and I'd switch them out if I could -- I'm not a fan of the posing or the proportions, but unfortunately it's impossible to find another body that would work with the hooves or grey skin.

But, yeah. The male and female Gem (60cm) bodies are lovely, and I've never had an issue with them. Maybe the hybrids that you're seeing are Super Gems?
