1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Soom Gem Discussion

Jun 9, 2011

    1. I looked for a discussion thread but couldnt find one... But I am a terrible searcher so if one exists, please feel free to delete!!
Love to see piccies of your Gems!
I got my first girl in the mail today -- a Soom Gem Gena. She's looovely. I shall take piccies when she has eyes/wig/clothes. :D

    2. No one? :(

    3. I want one so bad! I'm getting a Gena head soon, just need to find a body to match, hopefully a used one XD.

    4. Congrats Tensko! Gena is a lovely girl!

But, Kawaii_mon is right. The older Soom sculpts, like Gena and Namu, have fallen in popularity over the years in the wake of the Soom Super Gems, and their other larger dolls. But, I have a Soom Gena and Nion, and love them both.

How old is your Gena head? What color is she?

    5. I used to have a Dillui, who was adorable, but didn't really fit in with my newer dolls. Gena was my first BJD and I still have and love her, though.

    6. Ooooh! Melaidhrin, she's a pretty girl!

I love how Gena looks so intelligent and street-smart. Nobody pulls the wool over that girl's eyes!

    7. I think that's what always attracted me to Genas. They have such sass. I like your girl, Melaidhrin. :)

    9. I agree, and thank you both. =)

I have always found it a pity that the original Gem dolls were so under-appreciated. :\ I used to want a Godo girl; can't remember why I never got one, actually. Now I'm feeling all nostalgic for the days of the old Soom. :P

    10. Does anyone have the neck size of Namu? I'm looking for an alternative body and can't find the neck size anywhere.

Edit: duh, I guess I could just measure my head, but if someone knows offhand, it would be great. (it's early, not enough coffee)

    11. LOL! Lately, I've been feeling like that about all the older sculpts. I remember it was so exciting when Soom issued a tan Gena back in 2006. She was gorgeous!

I don't have a Namu, but always wanted to get one. I didn't get him because I was not thrilled by the boy Gem body, especially the hands. Good luck finding a body for him. I'd be curious to know what body you do decide on.

    12. I always thought Namu's big head looks bobble-headed on the Gem body and I don't like the hands either. I've discovered that someone has a WS Namu on a WS Resinsoul 70cm body, so I am going to order a NS one for my head. It doesn't matter too much about the resin match to me because I can blush the body to blend with the head, and besides, he will always be dressed. It will probably have to wait until after Christmas, but at least I have a plan now. I've had that head for years.

    13. My Namu is on an AOD body which has a 9.5cm neck, if that helps.

    15. Wow! Did you read about Iple House discontinuing their original line of SD-sized dolls, the YIDS? Earlier, Luts discontinued selling their original SD-sized dolls, the Delfs, with the iconic El, Lishe, Moon, etc., and, if I read it correctly, Elfdoll is discontinuing their SD-sized male doll line which includes Wu, Red, K, and Mir.

Man! What is going on? It looks like the old guard is being put out to pasture! It's so sad! Makes me wonder how long it will be before Soom decides to retire the original Gem line? I sure hope they don't! :eusa_pray

BTW, Kawaii_mon, what color is your Namu? Im seriously considering getting a Namu head for hybriding.

    16. He's a WS Namu, Rabbit-Moon. :) The AOD body is a bit more buttery, but not enough of a difference that it bothers me.

For awhile there I was pretty sure Soom were going to discontinue their Gem line. They have discontinued a number of the sculpts awhile back, maybe they only wanted to keep the best sellers?

    17. When your Namu head arrived, was it paper white?

    18. I also have a WS Namu on an AoD body. I got him in 2009, the head is still quite white but has mellowed just a touch to a kind of cream. The body has yellowed, and unevenly at that. I've been looking into methods by which I can lighten up the body so it matches the head again like it used to.

    19. My AOD body yellowed to that buttery colour as well. There's a few threads on lightening/bleaching resin in the customising section of the forums. I've tried it with a few bodies, but I've never really been able to work out if the body was lighter, or just cleaned really well!

Last year I changed my Namu to a Dollstown 15 body in paleskin. As the head has yellowed there's a difference yet again, but I prefer the look of this body on him.

I'm at a point where I no longer care about hybrids matching as long as I have the body type right. Heads and bodies that were once a perfect match have all yellowed differently, so it's pointless for me to worry about it.
