Soom Super Gems 'Olivine' and 'Lazule'

Apr 2, 2008

Wow, it really is as though Soom is releasing a new doll every week! We've barely recovered from Dia, and they let loose - not 1, but 2! - more beautiful resin people. If they continue like this, who knows what we'll end up with?

I personally love both sculpts, they're original and stunning. Olivine especially, I've never seen a doll like her. HOWEVER, though the dolls are amazing, I have to say I'm a little pissed off at the moment at Soom. Here's the problem: the default faceup on Lazule is EXACTLY what I'd custom ordered for my Spinel, from the all-important horizontal-not-slanted eyebrow shape (anyone who has heard me talk about my Spinel knows Soom did his eyebrows completely against what I'd asked for), to the request for no or minimum eyeliner (which Soom again ignored and painted on heavily), right down to the colour of his tear duct (I'd requested pale pink, not red - guess what they did?)

So I am more than a little frustrated that I paid $70 to have them do a very specific custom faceup, only to have them ignore my requests and put that very faceup on another doll. Sorry for sounding unpeaceful, I just had to vent my anger somewhere. Liking the dolls, but not happy with Soom at the moment.

    2. wow Chizzie that sucks... yeah I'd be pissed too. It,s one of the reasons I do my own faceups, that way I have what I want and I won,t get my faceup ideas taken.

that said, I can't really say I like the dolls that much Olivine looks too masculine for a girl IMHO and I don't know how they put the eyes on Lazule (maybe it's the color) but he looks either dead or stone... I'll have to wait for owner pictures before I can make a lasting jusgement because right now, none appeal to me.

    3. SOOM is trying to beggar me. >.<

    4. I quirk my eyebrows at Soom for the high speed release of their new dolls. It's fun but at that rate, its likely inevitable that they'll come up with something I must have but thankfully I don't find these ones appealing enough to own (they're really awesome though. Seriously.) Is it just me or does Lazule look like the new Mecha Angel dude, Rex?

Chizz, about the face-up that really is a blow below the belt. I won't be happy either if a specific face-up I requested for my doll didn't turn up right but the right one gets mass produced.

    5. Heh, in my frustration, I've finally told Soom how I felt. I'm interested in how they'll reply to this angry customer. :)

      I think Lazule has a nice gentle face...though he's a bit slow-looking.

    6. Oh, they are beautiful, both of them. But I still like Spinel best. And Dia.

Ah! Chizzie, I hope they, at very least, apologize with you after all... But, can I tell you your Spinel is really handsome and he was the one that made me want one too... ;)

    7. Olivine is better than Dea, Deneb, and Vega so far as femininity goes, but still too masculine for me. Nice head though - I'd like to see her as a boy someday (man!Vega was certainly a success, after all, so it's not out of the question that Soom could do it again).

    8. i'll agree than olivine is definitely more feminine-looking than dea, but something about her jawline still seems too masculine for my tastes. at best, she might be considered a 'handsome' woman. :\

lazule reminds me a bit of a unidoll jace, perhaps because of that lazy look and slow smile. ^^ i'm curious to see what he'd look like with a different faceup. the faceup accentuates the lackadaisical nature of the sculpt, so i'm wondering how a sharper faceup might make him look. X3!!

    9. And I have to disagree. Olivine looks more masculine than Dia. Olivine's strong chin makes her look like a man in a dress. But I really like her outfit, it's very nice indeed. Lazule is nice but i don't find him that special. I like his outfit though. These two new sculpt won't change my doll list, I still want Dia and Spinel very badly. :)

    10. I agree with AnnieStar to me Olivine look more a boy then Dia does.
I like Lazule look ...god soom really is eating my money...-_- must not buy ~

    11. Both are nice but I'm happy that they are not must have's for me. I like Dia much better than Olivine which is good since I have her on order. And Lazule like Rex is too young looking for my taste. Lupin is still the next guy on my list.

    12. yeah when I saw Lazule, Rex image pop in my head which is kinda great ...but I already order Rex so...Lazule has to wait -_-

    13. I think I've fallen in love with Lazule from the first sight. He has such a face (at least it seems to me from the photos I see) that I would like to look at for a long time, and I think he's able to look differently with different accessories. It's funny, I've just ordered a doll two days ago, otherwise I probably would have gone for him in a blink... but it's always like that :)

    14. Olivine looks similar to the Supia 60 that was released a couple of years ago, even looking at my Roda she could be her older sister, but that's just my own observation.

    15. Waaaaah, I want Lazule! Something about him is really appealing to me, I don't know what it is but he just seems so perfect!

That being said Olivine.... Looks like a Beatle. I can't think of which one. But. Beatle.

    16. I personally don't see how Olivine looks masculine at all.. I guess since she isn't super stylized like most women are and seems to actually have bones in her face it gives that sort of vibe but I know plenty of gorgeous women in real life with chins like that.

I like her a lot. Did we ever find out the measurements for the super gem girls?

I have to admit I also really love Lazule. But not quite as much.

      edit
      Okay I guess they put up measurements under Dia and I just hadn't checked back since I first saw her. ^^;

    17. Puh, luckily, neither of them are a must-have for me, at least not till I see owner pictures. Imho, Olivine looks very masculine, much more than Dia... and her overall features are just not to my taste... good for my wallet ;)

I am unsure about Lazule. I think he is cute and has potential, but I have to agree he looks drugged in the pictures. I think he needs smaller, brighter eyes to "wake up". I also think his eyebrows look more droopy than straight... I would love to see him with a completely different, "tougher" look! And I wish Soom would add clear profile shots of their dolls, I think it makes it so much easier to see the sculpt... maybe I'll make a request.

    18. I really love Olivine and Dia...I hope they'll still be available by the time I can afford my Dollshe boy...they'd make great wenches!XD

Olivine has a very expressive and human face that I think is just perfect.

    19. I don't think Olivine looks masculine at all compared to Dia and Deneb. I think she's the most feminine looking out of all of them but I still like Dia the most.

It's unbelievable that Soom is releasing so many dolls within the past few weeks. So much that it is overwhelming!*_*

    20. Soom is going bananas. I feel like they're trying to grab a sector of the market while Dollshe is temporarily out of business.
