Storing your BJDs

Apr 16, 2013

    1. I do apologise if such a topic already exists.. Though I tried to look for it, I can't exactly find the answer to what I was looking for.

My very first doll has just arrived and is now kept in her box at the moment.. But I don't exactly see her original box as something that would store her of an extremely long period of time..

I'm pretty curious.. How do you store your BJDs apart from keeping them in their original box?

      Any responses are appreciated! :D

    2. If they aren't on display or in their original box, I keep them in three dresser drawers that I have set aside especially for my SD dolls. I usually have two dolls laid out in these long drawers from Ikea. I keep outfits and wigs in there too.

Sorry, I meant I have two SD sized dolls laid out per dresser drawer. So I usually have six dolls laid out at a time. They are the ones that I tend to change outfits on. Some dolls stay in their specific outfit all the time, others are constantly changing.

    3. I can't help with any original ideas, I'm afraid.

About half of my crew sit or stand around in my living or bed room, the others are stored in their boxes. I wish I had the space to devote a whole display cabinet to them, but all the wall space is taken.

    4. Ah! That is indeed an idea! Thank you very much for your suggestions!~

      I wish I had some space to display them once in a while as well~ But my place is currently undergoing some massive renovations and the place is extremely dusty, so I have absolutely no choice but to store her in her box. ; -;

On the other hand, I was told that leaving them exposed would cause them to yellow faster.. Which I am pretty afraid of.. > <

    5. I have "rooms" set up for them in my doll room (which is just a spare bedroom. :) ). The only ones not displayed in there are Ay and Nakhtmin, who have their own little space on my chest of drawers; Xerxes and Zack who hang out on my nightstand; and my very first doll that has since been upgraded. I kept his first shell and he's stored in his box, in a trunk in my closet.

    6. Yellowing is a fact of BJD life; it's going to happen no matter what. If your dolls don't spend a vast amount of time in direct sunlight the odds are fairly good they won't yellow super-duper fast or turn banana-colored overnight or anything. I see you have a DoC doll. I had one of those myself, and he spent a fair amount of time just sitting out on a shelf for most of the time I had him. He didn't yellow so much as 'mellow' out to kind of a creamy tone instead of the faint pink undertones he had when I first got him.

That said, I store my dolls in their carrier bags. (Of which I need another one, I need space for the new boy when he comes home.) I don't have room to display them or keep them out, and this way they're easily accessible there and kept in excellent shape and if I'm heading to a meet it's a case of grab-bag-and-go. (The boys I take to a meet are generally random and determined by which bag happens to be closest to hand.) I keep all their clothes and so forth in a series of plastic boxes that sit on top of my closet.

    7. Mine are sort of... all over the place. A couple are still in their boxes/carry bags. My teenies are sitting on a shelf in the closet, because it's closed unless I'm actively getting something out of it. The ones still in pieces are in boxes in the closet. The rest are in a large, flat plastic storage container. It fits under my bed and I can fit three SDs and three to four MSDs in it depending on how much dolly tetris I feel like playing.

    8. That's so cool~ I wish I had a room for them as well ahahaha~ I don't have a drawer empty enough to store her at the moment.. But hopefully soon I can place her in a drawer which I have to clear out.. > <

Ah~ I see~ Thank you very much for your informative reply!~ She just spends most of her time out under fluorescent lights as I usually have time for her only at night.. > < At least it puts my mind at ease knowing that she'll mellow out over time. Perhaps I should really take up your suggestion and purchase a doll carrier too~ I would very much like to take her out and all as well~

      Ah~ I see~ Thank you for your informative reply~ ^ v^)

    9. Mine sit out all over my bedroom. I have benches and chairs in the floor where they sit, and then the rest are on top of the dresser and on the bookcase. I don't store them in their boxes cause I have SOO many!

    10. Most of mine are on display on my dolls shelf, although I also keep 3 on my desk in my office and have another 3 in a closet (just because they're unfinished, so I don't want them on display until they are).

    11. Mine are always on display on a shelf in my room (away from direct sunlight as much as possible). I don't see the point in hiding them away in a box.

    12. When I'm not playing around with my boys they live in a old converted TV cabinet in my room. I knocked a shelf out to fit my taller boys and I rigged a curtain rail on the front that I hang a shawl over to pull across and block out light. I like them easily accessible as I like to see them everyday so I don't put them away in boxes. There are cupboards underneath to that I use to store their cloths, props etc in boxes of varying sizes.
Here is an updated pic of my little setup :)

    13. I don't really know the age of my dolly, and I have no idea how fast she'll yellow, so I keep her in my dark closet in her bedroom diorama.

    14. I got a wardrobe closet just for my dolls as they were stored in boxes, closets and carrying bags all over the place. Now they are all in one place like this:

It looks a bit expensive to get a closet for just dolls, but the closet didn't cost as much as a standard 60 cm doll and it is worth it as I have more than a few dolls. My husband loves it too as there are no longer any surprise doll encounters.

    15. I have my dolls kept in a glass display case in the corner of my room, away from the sunlight.
They've been sitting there for almost three years now haha, and the door of the case is usually blocked by a chair so no visitors will ever open up the case.
I don't put my dolls back into their boxes because I feel the need to see them everyday ^v^

    16. Mine stay in my doll bag when not displayed. I also don't have Mikuru or Rise's boxes. Rose came with a Volks Sara box, but I don't store them in there. The doll bad is really nice and roomy as well :D

    17. Mine makes her home in a trunk I snagged from Hobby Lobby. It's usually open and is lined with the pillows that came with her and her clothes end up scattered around in there as well. That is of course when she's not sitting with me on my computer desk. :)

    18. My girl sits together with my pullips in a wooden bookshelf that hangs on the wall (secure, i checked it multiple times ;P ) In the shadow ofcourse. But however im planning on getting a glass cabinet that would be big enough to store about 30 dolls (standing up) because with all the porcelains, MH, pullips and wishlist for more bjd's, its getting a little crammed. I will have to find my own place before buying a cabinet of such because my bedroom is way too small for this xD

    19. I keep mine on the desk in my room right now as I don't have a proper setup or display for them and probably won't until my boyfriend and I are able to get our own place.
But it works, it keeps them out where I can see them. When I want to open the curtains and let natural light into my room I just cover them with a scarf XD

All their things are stored in plastic bins either in my closet or under my bed. I'd like to get a several drawer cabinet to store all their things though.

    20. I want to come play at your house! I could spend an hour (at least!) just rooting in the shoe drawer... (bonafied shoeaholic.... plenty of friends will attest to it.... "earned" the nickname Imelda Marcos (sp?).) How wide is that thing... those look like large dolls but they have plenty of room to spare. I want something like that too. the bed in the one part is great lol... you could make a multi level bunk!... I am looking into getting baby pram (from the 60's ish) to use to cart my stuff around at meets and some outings so I don't have to carry everything... gonna call it "the doll cart". Depending on if it works I may 'bed' dolls in there to store them... Right now the box is the only safe place from my 2 rather destructive cats...
