The "cross-eyed" look

Feb 26, 2015

1. I've noticed a lot of doll owners make their dolls cross-eyed.
I just wanted some insight from you all on this look.
Have you seen it? Do you like it? Do you do it to your dolls? What are your opinions on it?

2. Some dolls have dignity, and some are cuter when they're a little derp-dorable. I love slightly crossed eyes in sculpts with round faces and cheerful expressions - I haven't done it to any of my dolls but if I ever get around to buying a Doll Leaves Mint I definitely will.

3. Honestly? It drives me just a little bit nuts... I find myself wanting to get ahold of the doll and "fix" it's eye positioning.

4. I have one doll who is cross-eyed, intentionally, part of the character. I don't post pictures of him, because I expect people will have a go at it, as if I've been too lazy to do them properly.

5. Sometimes its just because its funny, there was a picture in a facebook group a while back, i have it saved to my phone so i could share it with my non facebook friends. I can't remember the owners name or the sculpt. but i'll upload it to my photobucket and share it (when photobucket stops being stupid). If anyone recognizes the doll and knows who it belongs to, please post who they are :)

6. I don't mind the cross-eyed look too much. It's cute on tinies.

7. I feel irrational antipathy to cross-eyed people,it's very unpleasant and strange feeling, when you don't know where she or he looks on. I don't like crooss-eyed dolls, but I think it's business of their owners.

8. photobucket finally stopped derping on me, so here's the one that i'd found on FaceBook. Looking at it now, the eyes arent very crossed, but they are a little. Again, if anyone knows the owner, let us know :)

9. honestly, I hate not know seem to be asking loudly improved

10. Honestly, given that SO many people seem to loathe this look, I highly doubt that as many people do this on purpose that it might seem.

11. Someone told me that one of my dolls is crosseyed. I never intended her to be crosseyed i just positioned the eyes the way I thought looked best in her sculpt...so she appeared to be looking at me, if i positioned them outward then she'd look really stupid.

12. One of my dolls is intentionally cross-eyed. I think she's cute that way.

13. I don't like my dolls seeming cross-eyed and since it's always been hard for me to get their eyes in that "just right" position when they're looking forward, I just make them look off to the side instead. :sweat Saves me a lot of trouble. :XD:

14. It's cute on some dolls, I've seen it done on event faces that are more "silly" type faces and it works really well

15. I've heard an off to the side gaze works quite well on a lot of dolls!

16. Some dolls - and people - also tend to look cross-eyed from certain camera angles. I can't photograph one of my friends looking straight at the camera unless it's a closeup picture because she always looks cross-eyed. I've noticed it with one of my dolls, too. Her eyes are actually perfectly aligned, but I have to watch how she's facing the camera.

17. oh my god right?! I feel that way with certain doll sculpts anyhow..it's like it makes them look cross eyed no matter what...and i wat to fix it...OCD much?

18. I sometimes like the effect in photos because it looks like the doll is actually looking directly at something and not staring blankly into space. ^^

But there's also the trend of dolls' eyes being posed in a way that hides about half of their iris under the upper eyelid. Pairing that with the cross-eyed look is supposed to make the doll look cool but I always think the doll's just about to pass out since the eyes are already rolled up so much.
KageNoHoshimi: That pic is hilarious! :XD:

19. I try my best not to cross my dolls' eyes, but a slight cross doesn't bother me. MY eyes will cross slightly if I don't have my glasses on. Super crossed eyes in a picture do startle me a bit. If it's what the owner wants or intends that's up to them. I remember hearing a presenter ask to correct the eyes of someone's doll. The owner very firmly said no and the presenter whined. Owner choice. -shrug-

20. Well, it does look kinda cute on some dolls, besides I don't think it's always intentional. I think I have seen one or two cases where the look is very exagerated though, as if the doll is trying to see its own nose. It's not my thing and it does make me want to "fix" their eyes as well, but I bet their owners are happy with how they look so I would never even dare mention it, hehe.
