The Different Looks of Tinies

Aug 2, 2007

    1. After observing this forum for awhile I am noticing a definite trend for the large dolls, specifically male dolls, to be favoured. They are versatile, beautiful and can express a variety of looks. But so can the female dolsl and so can tinies.

      For example:

      The Gothic Look
      [IMG]

      The Fantasy Look
      [IMG]

      The Romantic Look
      [IMG]

I do admit to this doll having a "cuteness" attack in all of the pictures, but this was a choice - bunny ears, teddy bears and bunny ears (with a white bunny tail - not shown). I think these dolls can be just as versatile as the older dolls. It seems to come down to the type of sculpt.

What looks have your dolls had? (I would love to see pics - I can never find very many in the gallery without really searching). Do you feel that "drastic" looks are more suited to the larger dolls? Are tinies limited in what they can express?

    2. Tinies can definitely have a variety of looks :) Sometimes you're a wee bit limited by the sculpt of the face, but really, you can do just about anything with any of them.

I've managed to pull off both sweet and teen-trendy with my BC Pepe:

    3. Celesse: LOVE your tiny's knees! I know that is something silly to notice, but I totally did. I think it is the teeny-style pic with those great boots. Her knees are sculpted very well. :aheartbea

:doh Now, of course, I realized the error of my ways. I'm going to want every single doll posted in reply to this thread. :...(

But I am looking forward to everyone's pics of the looks they have given their tinies! :)

    4. Haha! Yeah, I really love her knees too :) BC did a wonderful job on sculpting them :aheartbea

    5. Tinies are equally expressive, but seem to be less photographed. It's difficult enough with the larger dolls (use your macro!), and the challenges of tinies seem to overwhelm a lot of people. I just got my first tiny and it's very, very difficult to get a decent picture without distortion.
I wouldn't classify that pink look as "fantasy" at all, aside from the wig she's wearing a pretty, delicate dress. There *are* however a lot of elves and other mythical dolls and costumes in the tiny range.

People often dress their dolls with regards to their body type. So a slimmer, adult-bodied doll is more likely to wear trendier garb, whereas the childish dolls wear kids clothing.
Pippa is a little girl, so those are the clothes she wears. : )

If you don't sew of course, you're more restricted in the styles available.

    6. Rhoswen (Honey Leeke elf head) has always been my plantdoll character so she gets very fantasy looking asian flowing outfits
      [IMG]

Miyako (Mamu yo-Tenshi) gets fantasy and haute couture like looks
      [IMG]

My most versatile is Juline (YoSD Lin) she can wears ethnic and casual well. She can also do fantasy

Sorry for the overload of picture spam

    7. I want to give Pippa smooches and tell her not to hide from the camera.

I find that with Jolene (my Soom Aren) that changes of "mood" and expression vary quite a lot.

She can do a trendy look quite well:

      She also does punk(esque):

And also what I like to call just a good old fashioned classic Hollywood style look:

I think Lizzie (Soom Uyoo Elf) has the stranglehold on fantasy looks in my resin family.

And now it's my turn to apologize for pic spam overload. :)

    8. Great pics everyone!!! I agree that the pink isn't REALLY fantasy, but it's pixie-esque which is the hint of fantasy I wanted yet not as hardcore as others which are just as beautiful :)

      More pic spam, please!!!

Truth be known, I'd LOVE a gallery for these little ones. I love seeing pics!!!

    9. I adore Aren!!! I almost got her as my first doll. :)

    10. Oh such great dolls. I'm going to get my first tiny soon.

Elphsnt I love the goth look but they are all so cute.

AreeElf--Rhoswen is a great doll and what a great outfit. I think I just fell in
      love with another tiny.

Where is a good place to get outfits for the 15cm tinies?

    11. My bjd preference has fallen into the tiny range I believe. I have several in the "petite" size and several of the tiny tinies. Honestly, my photography style has always been to get close up and study the details anyway, so the ones I find myself most often taking pics of are my tiny tinies. They're fun! And they can be very versatile like you guys are saying. :0)

There's full of attitude little Elfdoll Hana Devil:

And sweet adorable shy Serendipity Cumi:

And the OrientDoll So sized tinies are my favorite (Ye & Dong):

      Hope I didn't over-spam my tinies.
      :0)

    12. Celesse - where did you get the wig in Lucia's sexy photo? I would love that style for various dolls but only catch them "Sold Out".

I think girl tinies have a bit more flexibility in the looks they dress in - you can go all the way from really sexy to baby-ruffles with a girl. I think boys are more limited to the range of casual-punk-goth-fantasy (all of which can be done by girls too) but I think it would be tough to make an existing boy tiny be really sexy, and you don't see much baby-ruffly on boys either.

    13. I'm loving that wig in this pic. Where'd you get that one? I have a Bambicrony on the way and a Kkotmu that both are in need of wigs..

      Cheers,
      LM

    14. Thank you :) It's a Monique wig that I picked up off eBay and cut and styled. It was originally somewhat long, but I trimmed it to her shoulders and flipped it out at the ends. I'm pretty sure it was this wig.

    15. Smart, trendy, and camping all in one! Spork the Bambicrony Light Slate Grey Elf Pepe.

    16. Don't have pics at the moment, but this is an interesting topic. This 'dressing style' issue comes up frequently in the 1/6 doll forums, and I've encountered 'OMG why are you dressing your dolls as adults, they are CHILDREN, you're exploiting them' more than once.
My counter-attack was always that 'they are dolls' but in the BJD world I've found this was more difficult to argue because of their more realistic body proportions and molds. I'm not that fond of the Lolita nor the baby doll nor the cute toddler so that's why I usually find myself making them fantastical characters, i.e. non-human beings to get away with some of the styles I dress them in.
This problem never arises with the larger dolls, but with the minis and tinies, it seems like it's a delicate issue, and might impact the limitations of styles or the perception of the limitations of styles for them.

Unintended (and probably un-necessary) long talk being said, I really adore the marshmallow-roasting pic of Spork. Too cute.

    17. I think there are so many styles and types of tiny now you can do what you want with them ...like you Angmasuzy I consider them dolls

thought I would share Moon ...she has to be one of my favorite tinys
      [IMG]

she wont wear clothes ...she has a leaf at the momment

    20. I think that tinies are just as expressive and versatile as their larger cousins. I present my Teagan--one doll, so many different looks (besides the obvious wig differences).......
