1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

The Place Where You Came Up With Character Ideas?

Nov 5, 2014

    1. First and formost, I apologize if this thread has been done before, and if it has, please merge it with the other thread! Also, if it's in the wrong forum, I apologize for placing it here in the first place!!

Okay, so onto the topic at hand. For about a month now, I've been struggling with a plot idea for my dolls until tonight when I was driving to work. The concept of the story-line hit me like a ton of bricks, and now I actually have a working concept for all of my dolls!

So, I wanna know where you first began to realize a plot that you may have not originally had or planned for!

    2. I think my storyline of the Lewis family came together when I put my MP Dollshe SA Hound on layaway. He made the perfect demon father for the majority of my human boys. It gave them all sorts of dangerous circumstances and excuses for their behavior, especially the twins who love each other a little too much.

    3. My dolly character ideas and fashions came about from the Aesthetic Movement from the mid to late 1880's. I'm so enamoured by that art movement and it's values.

    4. Most of my crew are resin avatars for favorite tabletop RPG characters... Individuals that I came up with for various games (Exalted, Space:1889, Vampire, Talislanta, Ars Magica and so on-) and ended up liking enough to embody as dolls. So, simply being a long-time, old-school paper-and-funky-dice type roleplaying gamer has driven most of my character designs.

The few dolls that AREN'T avatars for tabletop gaming characters? They're either resin versions of my favorite MMO characters or vague ideas based loosely on my (very poor and very infrequent) attempts at writing fiction.

    5. I decided my Pukifees would be devas (nature spirits) because I'd been reading about the Findhorn Gardens in Scotland. I love elves, fairies and other elementals, but I wanted to do something a little bit different.

    6. It was right here, on DoA, that I decided I want to dollify my personal set of Favourite Avengers (mostly Marvel-inspired, but not totally)

    7. My 1/4 dolls and my Batchix are shells of the characters I used to use on Maple Story. My Ruoyii had her own story I'm still figuring out. I'll need her in my hands to get a real feel of what's up.

    8. ^ How I felt about most of my dolls until now.

    9. Most of my dolls are characters I've been developing for a few years. I've just chosen a few of my favorite characters and some of my mains to be dolls. It helps me to write more about them when I can see them and play around with them.

    10. I'm the same as most people it seems! I have characters that I want shelled and know what mold I want for them looooong before I actually get them.

    11. I come up with character ideas from music, movies, and my own life experiences. My most recent character, Darius (Soom Dream Walker Ender), came to me when he came home from his faceup and I had him put together. He reminded me of Beast from Beauty and the Beast, so I created a story and character loosely based around that.

    12. My character's stories all hit me when I was at my office last year. I was actually looking at a Blythe doll, actually, and suddenly BAM, her character & personality fell into my lap, which suddenly unified all of my dolls, including my BJD, into one story. :)

    13. Thus far my doll characters have been kind of separate from my pre-established writing characters. For dolls, I think it's more fun to look at a sculpt and come up with a character for it on the spot. If I fall in love with the character, I add the sculpt to my wishlist. Is that weird? As I develop the characters, though, they do develop friends and stories, and I look for specific dolls to shell those side characters. So it's kind of a combination of on-the-spot and pre-planned characters. @-@

    14. My Aloïs and his story came to me in a kind of french class, we had to write a character's journey through his diary.
And Lisbeth and Caine, Lisbeth being my incomming MSD girl and Caine probably on my next purchase, just imposed themselves to my mind in a... philosophy lesson^^

    15. I was already in love with the doll I ended up ordering not a month ago, when I saw the second one that is in my wishlist, and it's perfect for the character of a fanfiction that is not even mine (but I read that fic more or less once a month XD). And then, the character for the first one (the one I actually ordered) came to me as an OC for that 'verse (If I'll be writing something about them - I already more or less started - rest assured that I will credit the original author ^^). And now I have the third and fourth character (OCs again) for the same 'verse that have decided to present themselves and I'm looking up to shell them too, but I will buy those dolls in time ^^.

Edit: I'd like to shell my LARP characters too, but I think it will a problem to find a sculpt with a strong nose XD!

    16. I actually based based most of my dolls off a story I had created for a school project when I was younger ( >///< )when I decided to start making dolls into the characters, i just changed around some names and fleshed out their personalities a bit more.

    17. Several of my OCs have been kicking around in my head for many many years, long before I discovered bjds. Others come from more recent stories my brain seems to generate. I also have 3 non original characters Thor, Loki and Tony Stark from Marvel. One doll I am waiting on is an OC Shai'tan which has been influenced by several characters (and creatures) from books and films but he will still be my own creation.

    18. My characters usually originate from playing MMORPGS, mainly RPing on old Neverwinter Nights and World of Warcraft. After I stopped playing NWN, I cloned a lot of my characters into WoW and altered their stories to fit. Outside of WoW, most of my characters have separate backstories and storylines. :) I have characters I've had kicking around for near a decade now. (I know I'm not old but.. now I feel old.)

    19. Since this topic only tangentially relates to doll ownership, we must close it as per the General Rules:
