1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Things to do with dolls during pregnancy.

Apr 1, 2012

    1. Not my dolls, my own. Things I love to do (sand, repair/rescue projects, repeatedly changing face-up and body-blush on some of my dolls) all seem major NO!'s right now, even though I have a good protective mask.

So far I did some not so succesfull attempts at clothes making and millinery.

Anyone's got me some cool and safe ideas?

    2. Depending on what materials you're working with, small-size prop making could be fun!

You could also try more doll photography or photostories as well. :)

      Good luck with the pregnancy!

    3. That's actually quite a good idea, I did fimo food for dollshouses in the past, ans i can have my husband bake them when im out of the room!

      Thanks!

    4. First of all, congratulations!

Props is really fun. I made cakes, biscuits and pastries for my dolls by using paper clay. Safe and easy to work with.
I can't sew well either but sewing simple things like pillows worked for me. So I sewed lots of pillows to decorate the shelves where I keep my dolls. All in different size, shape and patterns.

You could clean all your dolls, their wigs and clothes. Sueding is also safe. :)

    5. Shopping is safe. You should do lots of shopping for your dolls. (kidding)

You could get into photography, learn how to use all the settings on your camera, do photoshop and stuff. Or what about wig making?

I didn't realize sanding was dangerous for pregnant women. I always sand underwater to avoid dust. Is it the newly sanded resin fumes or the fact that you can't avoid the dust enough, even with wet sanding?

    6. I've mostly been sewing and taking photos, since I don't trust a good face mask. I guess I'd rather not risk damaging the kiddo. It stinks since I have a few projects in mind to do. I guess it gives me something to look forward to in nine months. :P And yes, shopping is safe.......lol

I imagine its the fumes that are dangerous, since we can't even be around things like spray paint. Since resin dust is bad for you anyway, it's better safe than sorry, I guess.

    7. Crocheting yarn wigs is fun, and 100% baby safe. You could even make the baby a wig, just kidding (mostly). Crocheting hats is also fun. I like to make Bunny ears and froggy hats.

    8. I wouldn't do anything that requires a face mask. I hear doctors don't even want you around litter boxes because of some kind of virus that you can pick up from it - but I've heard that if you have had cats for a long time, you should be OK... but that's something else.

I wouldn't trust the face masks, but I'd be likely to follow 'better safe than sorry'. You could always try having someone else spray your face up, if you know they can do it. I don't know if any of the face up materials have strong fumes, though, but you'd need to be careful of them if that's the case.

Sewing is always a good idea, as is shopping, and prop buying/making. Pregnancy photostories are always entertaining. You don't see a lot of "doll pregnancy" photostories or photos.

If you need help with sewing, you can do a lot with a yard of anything. Undead Threads has some simple patterns you could use to start you off. They've helped me a lot. If you want to try patterns, there are a couple of good pattern-making books you can either buy or get from the library.

    9. Making props! :D
I found this girl on YouTube that makes all these super easy and super cute props that will keep you busy.
Things you find in your everyday home as well. Safe too!
Her name is: MyFroggyStuff on YouTube

    10. I second crocheting baby a wig  because I think it would be hilarious. [Though my brother had this mega full head of hair when he was born!]

I have a tendency to poo poo a lot of the must not do this, must not do that stuff when pregnant, but I have never been pregnant and I am sure the minute I am I will shut myself in a hermetically sealed room and get someone to pass me sanitized meals... because well I can almost see it?!

      What about knitting?

You could do some photostories of dollies erupting out of your belly like in the Alien movies.... ;)

Poly clays are supposed to be totally non toxic, but I know we are all careful with them. I just use an oven bag when baking which I tie with a piece of wire very tight and then I let the fumes escape outdoors away from my direction.

you could also hang out here 24-7 :D

    11. She also seems to have a blog: http://www.myfroggyprincess.blogspot.com/

    12. You could always try and make your own doll ;). Clay is safe and it's a big project to take on. By the time it's finished you probably have been a mom for quite some time.

    13. I've never been pregnant and never will be, so I really don't know what all the restrictions are, but a few ideas:

      1. practice sewing skills, you have time to get good!
      2. wig making
      3. clay prop making
      4. knitting/crocheting
      5. photography
      6. write stories for the dolls
      7. role play!! (this kept me sane after nerve surgery when I wasn't even allowed to shower without help)
      8. jewelry making (you can get tons of beads, charms, chains, etc at Michael's or Hobby Lobby)
      9. Character development, if you haven't already
      10. Plan future dolls/projects

    14. You can paint tattoos without using masks and such. I use acrylics and pastels for all my face-ups, both entirely safe. You can also sew, or build sets and focus more on photography. :) I would be all about the sets if it was me.

    15. I think that photoshoots are the best thing to do with your dolls while pregnant. I love being able to get out of the house and go places to take photos. I also think that sewing is wonderful as well. As far as making things that require paint, pastels, or any kind of glue, I would be wary and read the labels very carefully. If you are like me and have asthma, even harmless things and very faint fumes (like pastels) can really irritate your lungs (or your stomach).
