1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

To dress doll, should you remove the head?

Aug 31, 2009

    1. Clothes. How do you put them on your doll!? For example, do you need to remove the dolls head in order to put on a tshirt? (since obviously the collar of the shirt is too small to squeeze a head through) Does this mean you have to unstring the doll in some way to remove the head? Or do they snap on/Velcro on in the back somehow?

    2. Hmm, I never remove my doll's head to put clothes on, but the wig very often comes off in the process of changing shirts.

Most of my dolls' clothing is either zipper, button down, or v-neck to accommodate for the large head.

If you have clothing with a small neck and you want to remove the doll's head, it can be simple if you have a Luts or a similar sort where the s-hook just has to be rotated. With some dolls, like my DOC, its impossible to get the head off without clamps for the string.

Basically, I never remove my dolls head for clothing. I just put it on them the way I put my own clothing on - relatively carefully, and without removing body parts :)

      I hope this helped!

    3. depends on the clothes and depends on the doll. Some have closures and some don't. some dolls have heads or faceplates that come off more easily. you don't have to unstring your doll to dress them if they're fitted correctly.

I would try to make it to a local meet up so you can see for yourself.

    4. Phew, first time doll owner shopping for clothes here.

I was worried I'd have to do major construction to put on a shirt! Thank you for your help! Makes perfect sense!

    5. I've seen some shirts where you do have to remove the head--but I wouldn't buy one. Most doll t-shirts either fasten up the back or have a big open neck. Do take the wig off though--it's going to fall off anyway, probably. Also watch out for fingers snagging on sleeves--I get that a lot with my dolls. Just go slow and everything will be fine.

    6. It totally depends on the doll and the clothes. For my ones with S-hooks, I prefer clothes with fasteners in front or back so I don't have to take the heads off, and sleeves wide enough to accommodate the hands. My Minifee girl (and future boys, once they have their proper bodies) can wear pretty much anything - their heads come off easily with no issues due to the neckpiece used to connect them, and their hands are magnetic and come off for dressing. They're the easiest.

    7. I've never had any clothing that you needed to remove the head for. Usually it's just necessary to watch out for the eyelashes. That's it.

    8. I am going to go counter to the crowd here and say I usually remove my dolls' heads when I dress them. Most of them have easy enough heads to remove (just pop off the headcap and twist the s-hook) that it's less trouble than pulling things over their heads. Also, several of my dolls have faceups that either would be very expensive to replace or were done by artists who are no longer taking commissions, so I REALLY don't want to risk damaging them pulling clothes on and off over their faces.

I have seven dolls and only one of them has a head that takes more than 10 seconds to remove, so it's not much of an issue for me.

    9. I only have Narin and Unoas and I do always remove their face plates before dressing them (when the clothes go over the head) but not their whole head because I don't need to. I's the face up I'm trying to protect and it makes it much easier to dress them.

    10. It depends on the doll, and on the article of clothing. I'm lazy, so for stretchy things like teeshirts I won't remove the doll's head. Sometimes I make shirts with v-necks, or with velcro in the back like a Barbie shirt, that are made to be easy to take on and off.

My Volks girl has a big head and usually wears dresses, though, so I remove her head before dressing her. For most dolls taking the head off isn't that hard - just slightly tricky if they're strung tightly, but you'll get the hang of it soon:)
