1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Ups and Downs of owning a Volks Super Dollfie

May 7, 2007

    1. I hope this is the right place to ask this!

I'm (still!) trying to decide which size doll I want to purchase and I still can't decide between a super dollfie and a mini-super dollfie.

So my question really is what are the ups and downs of having a super dollfie? As in care and management, is the body a better quality, will it last longer? Stupid questions really I just need answers too.

I'm moving overseas so I think a mini-super dollfie will be easier to manage on a plane but then again I can always wait until I get to Singapore to start buying my doll if I want to get a Super dollfie.

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question I just really need to decide what I want and soon. Thank you for your help~

    2. Really there is no difference in quality. Both sizes have dolls that pose better than others. Size can be a challenge in some cases, especially if you are traveling or moving. If you like the MSD size, they do make more mature sculpts (Narea/Narin). The main reason to get the bigger SD doll is the 'age' factor. Some of us like older looking dolls. I myself enjoy my 16 to 20 year olds. Hence I got 70cm+ boys. Some people love their cute little 8 year olds (roughly the apparent age of MSD dolls) so they say with the smaller dolls.

It's really just up to your personal taste.

    3. Just like MieAga said, in the end is up to each individual~ I started with MSD then moved on to SD and tinies~ I love them all, size, posing, etc~ so maybe decide on a size and then you'll see where that takes you~! good luck!~

    4. I think I like the older dolls, I know I want a boy and I think the 17ish is what I'm aiming for so thank you! Thats immensly helpful!

    5. There are plenty of threads on age vs. doll size brake downs, if you do a search. I'd recomend you still check out Narea (The female doll)/Narin (Male doll) as they are more mature without the HUGE size. Other than that, I'm sure if you take a look around you'll fall in love with someone ;)

    6. MSD's are much easier to tote around, no question! But be aware, there is a substantial size difference between an SD13 boy and an SD10, even though they are the same scale. Which is why my SD13 boy is the least likely of all my big dolls to get taken out.

As for quality, within any given company the minis and the full size dolls are of the same quality. I've found my MSD to be as high quality and well sculpted as my SD's. :)

    7. I prefer the SD size. I have had a tiny and a MSD, and while they were certainly easier to take places, there is a presence that the larger size has that really pulls me.

If you like to knit or sew, the larger is easier. If you like to take the doll places, smaller is easier. If you eventually want many dolls, smaller is easier to find space for. If you just want a couple, larger can be just right.

You should try and hold a few to get a feel for it. A local meet is ideal to see dolls in person.
