Volks Opening Meetup/Hotel, etc.

Please see this thread, if you are going to the opening (regardless of whether you are going to be staying in the hotel or not. Volks wants to know how many are coming opening day

12.8 miles from Long Beach Airport
9.2 miles from LAX Airport (whichever airport is better for you, should be fine, they're both about the same distance.) LAX is bigger, which can be a good or bad thing.
There is a shuttle from/to both airports I think and it's about $15

You are welcome to stay in any hotel you like, but if you'd like to be in a room block with us, you are also welcome!

IMPORTANT: I need to know AHEAD of time how many rooms I need to ask for in the block. EMAIL ME: aimeeATaimeemajorDOTcom if you are interested in reserving a room. You must be sure that you want to. You could put me in a bad situation if you back out. (this will allow us to save money, and in the least you'd be able to easily have meetups with other dollie folks.)

So I guess if you are DEFINITELY going and don't mind spending about in the $80 range (roughly) for a hotel room, please email me so that I can get a pretty firm list. I don't want 15 rooms charged to my credit card! !

We will be having dinner Saturday night as a group, (after the Volks store closes) to share.... if you'd like to join, if you could also let me know via email so I can know how big of a banquet room to reserve. ^_^...

Is there anything else that I, or other local members can do to make it easier for you to come to the volks opening, or make things more fun for you?

The opening is on Nov 19th, a Saturday. Dinner Sat eve which I already mentioned.Then on Sunday if people want to do something fun together, that would be nice. The Mitsuwa (japanese market, etc) is only about 2 blocks away.

(let me know if you have any ideas, we could always get together and take photos on hotel grounds at the very least.)

Are there any things you would like to do that you think would be fun? We're trying to keep it simple and light, but if you suggest something that is feasible for me to set up, I will try to do it! !

I'm going to be giving away some small dollie accessories as fun gifts/prizes to people, and I hope to have a few other things planned as well.

just a quick update, folks! I'm researching room blocks and basically, we have two choices...

(a) if we have 5 to 15 rooms, we can get a social room block, with no commitment. Those wanting the special block (with a cheaper price) would have to call within the date required (which would be soon) and reserve a room. Anyone calling after that wouldn't get the rate.

(b) if we have MORE than 15 rooms, I have to give them my credit card and guarantee that at least 80% of the rooms I ask for for the room block will actually show up. If they don't, my card gets charged.

What this means is that it's VERY important that if you, or you and friends, are definitely going and want to be part of a room block, you need to email me so that I can accurately tell them how many rooms we want.

and also, I just called the hotel and they said that the maximum # of people in a room is 5, for those of you who are considering getting a group room. ^_^

 

Hey guys, at least 11 people have said "yes" on the poll, but only about 6 people have emailed me. I really need, if you can do it, an email saying "I specifically am coming and getting a room." You won't be paying me for the hotel room, you'll make the reservation yourself later, but I need to know whether to get a 15 rooms and under block, or a 15 + rooms block.

I'm going to have to find out really soon about which we go with, so I urge you to hurry, and ask your friends too to email me if they would like to be a part of this. The hotel puts a cutoff date on getting room block reservations, and that date is coming VERY soon. We only have a little bit of time.

everyone, please make sure that you email me if you want to be part of the room block. I'm finalizing things tomorrow, early in the morning, so if you don't email me today, then I won't keep it in consideration. If we have under 15 rooms (which it's looking like we will) then I'm only going to ask for that size.

Obviously anyone can order a room though, you don't have to be part of the block (you just won't get the discount)
