1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Volks School A versus Sweet Dreams School A - Differences in the sculpt?

Mar 14, 2008

    1. Usual disclaimer: apologies if a similar question has been asked before! ^^

I'm (finally!) planning on buying my first boy soon, and I know he's going to be some kind of School A. When I first decided on the sculpt, I knew I'd want to have him modified to have half-closed eyes, which is both expensive and horrifying for someone like me with no sculpting experience. Happily, I can now get a SWD School A and only suffer through the minimal pain of opening his eyes a smidge more! Yay!

Now that it's time to buy (thank you, tax return!), a friend raised the question of whether or not there are any other differences between the sculpts that I should be aware of before hitting up the marketplace. Looking through photos of blank heads, I'm not able to detect any real differences, but she did mention that the lips might be thinner on SWD. Is this the case? Are they parted further -- is that the thinning she's seeing? I haven't seen either sculpt in person, so I don't have anything to go on, really.

Any help is appreciated! ^^ Thanks in advance! <3

    2. I noticed the lips are smaller for swd sch a, compared to sch a. But other than that I don't see any differences..

    3. Hm, that's what I'm afraid of... the lips are my favorite part of the sculpt! Maybe I'll have to re-think my plan. Hm, hm.

      Any confirmations on this? XD

    4. the only difference between the A head and the SWD A head apart from open and closed eyes, is the lip size. The SWD A head's lips are considerably smaller than head A, which I found really disappointing (I'm also an A head love). But this seems to go with most of Volks' SWD heads as Lucas SWD appears to have smaller lips as well.

      If you check this website:
      http://homepage3.nifty.com/zarame-kingyo/dollindex.htm
and click on "Doll", slide your mouse over the school A's profile picture, you'll see the SWD A head and notice the clear difference between the two. The doll owner has a SWD A head as the sleeping version of her school A.

    5. Ooh, thank you for the link! It definitely shows the difference better than any comparisons I've managed to drudge up. I guess I really will have to rethink my plan, after all -- the lips just might be the dealbreaker...

    6. Yup, different lips. I was disappointed that the SWD Sch A doesn't seem to have the "smirk" that the open eyed one does. It has to be my favorite feature of the face. I love how one corner of his mouth turns up and the other turns down.

My School head is oldskin. I had the opportunity to compare him side by side with a pureskin one recently, and I couldn't see any differences.
