1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Want to buy a doll but all are SOLD OUT

Jan 13, 2015

    1. Hey community!

This is my very first post here.

I'm interested in buying a doll but when I visit some websites I only find that 80% of the dolls are sold out all the time.
Is this standard?? I mean, don't these companies want to sell more?

I'm not talking about limited editions here. Although it is very frustrating to see a LE Doll and then ''sold-out''.Makes me wonder why not remove the item?

Thanks in advance!! Hope to be ABLE to buy a doll soon.

      Proxima

    2. I personally like to go back and see pictures of LE dolls. They usually have really cool outfits and/or special faceups that are good for inspiration. Or they're just really pretty and I like looking at them. But yes, sometimes it's frustrating that an awesome doll you've never seen before is LE and has been long sold out. There's always the second hand marketplace?

Usually all those dolls you see that are not LE and are sold out are VERY old sculpts that have been discontinued. Older companies like Luts and Soom do that. :/ Still, like I said, I like seeing their pictures so it doesn't bother me.

    3. I think that is standard to see some companies sculpts as "sold out". Soom is one of them, and Luts another(even if they have basic dolls still there), and Fairyland recently, too. But many companies do have buyable dolls - DollZone, Doll Chateau, IpleHouse, WithDoll, to name few.

And having sold out dolls still on company's site, I can see the logic. Customers can see what kind of dolls company has made in past, and also if the company want to do "second edition" of sold out doll, they don't have to add doll again to their site.

    4. This is what I mean: 9 items. 4 sold out. Not a LE doll, just standard dolls here..

    5. I used to be confused by this too but I agree that it makes sense to keep the pages and pictures for reference. If someone wants to google a sculpt, those pages are needed so people know who made it, when it was made and other bits of information.

    6. Not many companies will offer all their sculpts, all the time forever. There are various reasons-- molds are worn out, there's not enough demand to make it worth their while, or companies like Iplehouse that are constantly offering new sculpts and want to phase out the old ones. The good news is that sometimes old sculpts are re-issued. Also many people like to see archival photos.

    7. Yes, I'm new here too. I see a beautiful sculpt someone has and I find the name of the company and go to the website. I see the doll click on the picture and I see sold out or waiting list.

    8. I'm newbie too, I think it's normal for them to put them on their gallery. They serve like company's portfolio, and might be available for future event or discontinued T3T. I know it sad if the dolls we want got sold out, but there is always new one released too XD!

    9. In the case of Iplehouse, those "sold out" dolls are still available through their doll choice system, they just aren't available as standard purchase dolls any longer.

    10. those 4 Dolls are discontinue Dolls, that's why their are sold out and also if you look at other basic Dolls their are also discontinue Dolls. some Theme Dolls who are sold out on iplehouse you can buy via Doll Choice System you can order from 1th to 15th each months but you need a account to use it. ;)

    11. Oh, we all suffered when IH announced they were retiring sculpts! There were many last minute purchases.
I snatched a second hand Ryan, so I am all good, though.

For Iplehouse it is true that there are several more dolls listed under "Doll Choice" - when you've registered for an account on their website, you can check out the blank heads and then the corresponding dolls under their "Limited" release. Unfortunately you won't find any of those four JID boys there.

There are several dolls I would have liked to get myself but missed out on as I wasn't in the bjd hobby yet.
I really hope you will find *your* doll among all those that are still available - there are a great many around :)

    12. If referring to Iplehouse, the really old sculpts that Proxima showed are sold out for good. As in the molds are no longer available. But most of the sculpts from their limited series can still be ordered via Doll Choice.

I actually really like checking out the old sculpts of companies because this gives me a vibe for their style. I guess it is a bit disheartening to see sculpts that I like being sold out, but hey, there are always newer sculpts, right?

    13. I find it really useful when I go on a doll site and see older sold models because I can then find something I didn't know about but that I can look for on the marketplace.
There are so many dolls out there that it is quite important that companies keep the older discontinued sculpts on their webpages as a sort of database.

    14. I guess it's the wording then.
''Sold out'' to me means they didn't make enough dolls to keep up with the demand and that there will be more dolls available again soon.
''Discontinued'' to me means they have chosen to stop producing the doll forever, regardless of it's popularity.

    15. Most of these companies are in countries where English is not the common language so the nuances of language are often lost in translation. The "sold out" phenomenon confused me when I started out as well. It appears to depend on the company. Some companies use sold out to indicate items that have specific ordering periods so if you keep checking (or more effective to check with the people who are in forums about dolls from that particular doll company) you find the dolls offered for sale at certain times. Other companies have sold out dolls that are permanently unavailable. Limited dolls are generally not sold after the limited sale period.
Some companies (Dollshe) say they are going to stop making a doll, then bring it back, then discontinue it again so that the consumer is just left guessing if they will or will not bring it back.
Do not worry, you will soon find there are way more dolls for sale that you want than anyone but a millionaire could ever afford.
      Welcome to the hobby!

Doll choice is only offered every other month from First to Fifteenth of the month. Certain colors like Ebony are only offered on a even more restricted schedule because of the technical difficulties of casting in darker or more highly pigmented resins. Which is why I have been waiting since November to order my Ebony Taregan EID man who I hope will be offered in February.
I find the most effective way to get accurate info about these dolls is to participate in the discussion forums about the specific doll I am interested in getting. The people are generally quite willing to answer all my questions.

    16. Hehe thank you :) I am glad to see I am not the only one who thought their wording was a bit awkward.

I know I will eventually find my dreamdoll though. Just a matter of time now :D

    17. Do not get a recast doll. If you need a doll right away go to a legit dealer like Denver Doll Emporium or Alice's Collections or Mint on Card and look for dolls that are "in stock". This is the only path to immediate gratification as most of the dolls are "preorder" meaning after you order there is a wait of one, three, even six months or more while the doll is being hand made. Company estimates of production times are notoriously inaccurate so look in the "waiting room" for that company to see how long it takes from order to shipping for the doll you plan to get. Standard colors like normal skin and oriental skin generally are faster than blue or tan skin.

    18. iplehouse closed Doll Choice in January due the Winter Event and their opened DC the whole December. You need to wait for it till February. ;)

    19. As was already explained--- Doll Choice is only available during a specific period each month. Having to dig around a little bit to figure out how things work or wait for two weeks till the next ordering period comes open is not a justifiable reason to go get a recast.
To be honest, my jaw kind of dropped to see that you would just say "I'm seriously considering looking for a recast now" on Den of Angels of all places, where the strict anti-recast policy is super super crystal clear. Recasts are never an option. Do you want an Iplehouse doll, or do you want to steal from Iplehouse? Because that's actually what you're choosing between when you consider looking for a recast of one of their dolls.

    20. Please don't ever buy a recast.
      That's stealing from the companies.

Getting frustrated by discontinued items is one thing, buying counterfeited goods is something entirely different.
