1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Was there a few BJD videos you watched constantly as a newbie?

Mar 26, 2015

    1. Personally, I watched Dejavudea's doll videos and AsenvaBJD's videos a zillion times, and still continue to watch them to prepare myself for my first BJD. Does anyone else do this? :)

    2. Aww newbies of the current day and age! Such a wealth of information! Youtube wasn't even a figment of anyone's imagination when I first heard of BJD's. I had no idea where to even look up information when I saw them first. It wasn't until a few years later that I met my best friend who had dolls introduced me to DoA and the newly extended world of BJD's becoming widely available to the western population. I now follow Asenva on youtube and am slowly finding other doll vloggers. I took a long hiatus from the doll world when social media exploded and now there's all sorts of things out there! I feel like a newb all over again!

    3. There were no BJD videos when I started, I wish there were! :) I wish I could watch BJD videos on youtube now but it seems like most of the people on there are recasters/pro recast. :(

    4. I watched Lorti, Asenva, Regenlief and Denali wind to start. Now I am following a ton of people and still enjoy watching everyone's video's and being a part of the community. I disagree about everyone being pro-recast. Myself and many others are NOT pro-recast in the YT community. There are definitely a lot out there but not if you look in the right places :)

    5. I am still and newbie and I cannot get enough of any BJD themed videos! I first found Asenva, and am now subscribed to her and over twenty others. It seems I am more focused on videos that feature: sculpts, body reviews, height comparisons, product reviews, simple how to's and character backstories. Once I get my first doll I am sure my focus will change to reflect more craft how to's. I subscribe to everyone I can find <3

    6. Nobody comes to mind in particular but I loved -and still occasionally do- watching box openings by various people. The excitement of a new doll is hard to match and it's lovely to see how happy those little resin people make everyone!

    7. YouTube wasn't a big thing yet when I joined the hobby, and we were still on dial up so even trying to watch a 2 minute video usually took 20 minutes to download and wasn't worth the frustration. XD

I hadn't seen a bjd in person until I got my first. I think it might have been helpful to have seen what they looked like in the hands of a person, both to see scale and range of movement better.

    8. I think the pro recasters are just so loud and obnoxious, it makes you think they dominate youtube >_< Is there a group or something for normal people?

    9. I don't usually watch youtube videos about dolls. I've seen some, to help me decide on a purchase, but I prefer looking at pictures.

    10. Oh, heavens no. I'm in the old-timers club, from the days of dial-up. The first BJDs I saw were in a Volks ad in Hobby Japan when they were first introduced, and my interest was renewed when I got into 1/6 doll customization. I had only the most abstract notion of size when I started buying wigs and eyes for my first incoming doll and bits, and had my socks thoroughly knocked off when my first whole doll came. :D

I'm not a big video person, anyway, so I haven't even looked at what's out there.

    11. I agree! unfortunately no, there isn't a specific group but we are out there :D Usually much quieter in our opinions but all purchasing and supporting legitimate dolls :)

    12. Nah. I only watch BJD related videos if they are box openings of a sculpt I like, or if they show different methods of putting a wig on. Beyond that, I learned everything I need to know about BJDs through a book. Asenva is very awesome, though.

    13. Oh when I ordered my first girl, I searched and watched anything and everything on her sculpt. Then a lot of stuff from her company. And it grew from there. Same when I ordered my guy. I'm a youtube-a-holic, if that term existed.

    14. I watch AsenvaBJD from time to time. She's also very helpful and will answer all of your questions.

    15. Asenva, I watch a lot of faceup videos like Nicolle's Dreams 'u'. I also love FreyaBunny19's dolls and her whole cute aesthetic.

    16. I kept watching Nicolle's Dreams too!! The way she did faceups was mesmerizing. Even now, I'll still go back to her old videos and rewatch them, and learn new things each time.

    17. I remember that awesome vid by KitsuneHostess about the box opening of RingDoll Sol, there he went all like, zomg that doll haz a peenush, and has been crying out like that for 10 mins I think, or even more. I was waiting for my boydoll back then, never ever held a single bjd in my arms, and that vid made me overly happy. I then showed it to my boyfriend, and he too lol'd a lot. So funny. I still see this video in my "watch it again" youtube recommendation list, as if I haven't had enough of this, haha

    18. Back when I first gained an interest in the hobby, there weren't that many YouTube resources available. But by the time I had actually ordered my first, they had become a small but growing staple.

I cannot really put my finger on one particular video, outside of one of Belladonna BJD's photoshoots and a couple of stop motions, but I did watch a horrendous amount of box openings, trying to emulate the excitement and imagine what it would be like to 'meet' my own for the first time. To this day, I love arrival videos. The eagerness and joy of a new owner, be they master to no doll or tens of them, is always something monumental and special.

Lorti and Denali Wind have always been favorites of mine, but I also watched Asenva, Kiriex and Keexter, MalvagitaBella, and many more. I liked to see how veterans handled and discussed dolls, and wanted to ensure that I knew how to take good care of my own once he arrived.

    19. I didn't watch any specific ones, I just watched a bunch of box opening videos, while I was waiting for my first doll! But now I have a couple channels I watch regularly! :)
