What are some things you wish you knew before getting a 70cm doll?

Mar 5, 2023

    1. It’s finally happened. I’ve been bitten by a 70cm doll, Ringdoll’s Cryan SP got to me. The max size I have is 60cm and I’m wondering what unexpected quirks others have found with acquiring or transitioning to the larger dolls.

    2. I don't think the difference is super big. I wish I knew his head would be so small and the engineering of the body would annoy me, but those are issues specific to my own doll. He's also hard to photograph with other dolls because he's so much taller than the rest of them. He really towers above them and it's easiest to have him sitting.

    3. Most of my dolls are roughly 70 cm or taller, so I can't really compare having them to having smaller ones, but I will say finding stands and carrying bags has been a bit of a challenge.
I also really wasn't prepared for the size of the boxes. They come up to my hip when standing on end, but I'm also short xD

    4. I would say weight has been a bit different! My 68 cm resinsoul girl is a LOT heavier than my 60 cm resinsoul boy. Clothing stuff is also a bit different but I think if you're used to 1/3, it's not a TON of difference

    5. Weight. An 80cm doll I have weighs 12 pounds. That doesn't sound like a lot but wrestling that much weight trying to move or pose them is a lot.

    6. I wish I would have known how hard it would be to dress, pose and carry them around for photos lol! It takes serious dedication. My biggest doll is ~50cm now.

    7. Agreeing with weight lol. Though, the RGMbody-4 that Cryan is on isn't quite as heavy as the other Grown boy bodies.
I also agree with box size, they take up so much space. But Ringdoll boxes are too nice to throw away, in my opinion. XD

    8. Maneuvering is no joke! I kept buying Dollshe Hounds and selling them because they kind of just...laid there. Might just be that body though, as I had no issues with my 65cm Switch which isn't too different imo.

    9. Be prepared for the weight difference  my first was a 62cm which I found heavy at first. Then my 75cm came along, and I was not prepared for that heavier weight.

You might want to consider carrying bag size if you wish to take the doll outside, and consider storage space. I initially thought I could stuff two doll bodies into one long carrying bag, but the bag became too heavy. I’m eyeing suitcase with wheels now ;)

for storage/display, if they’re standing, you’ll need more height in your storage area than for a 60cm. For sitting, more depth in the storage. I didn’t consider height so I have to store my dolls sitting.

edit: a positive point and why I keep getting larger dolls after. They look so natural in posing! Nice bodyline and proportion to me.

    10. To parrot the others: the weight! And, to do a photo shoot, you need a lot more space. But for me those are the only downsides. I love my big guy, and when he's on display, there's just enough room for him to sit in my display case without bumping his head.

    11. I started with a 60 cm doll. then I bought 70+ cm. Later, I purchased two 1/6 dolls.
I think I like the 70+ size the most. A little heavier compared to 1/6 dolls, but they are easier to pose and be taken photos.

Anyway, I think that you should buy him, he is handsome!

    12. I am awaiting my first 70 cm doll - and I worry about finding shoes. One can sometimes find seamstresses - but doll shoemakers? I want pretty and interesting shoes/boots, too. Not clunky or poorly made. What to do?

    13. That if a smaller doll decides to bend at the hip, their headbut hurts way less than if a 70+ doll does so.. Faaack the times my trinity doll threatened my life was terrifying XD Otherwise its usually the fact that getting shoes can be a little challenging because most dolls that size arent the most popular choice, so styles are rather limited. Both for clothes and shoes, and wigs.

    14. Posing 70cm guys standing up is more of a challenge to me, especially if posed with smaller dolls. Getting everyone in the frame is harder with a height difference of 10+cm! Also, depending on the doll, a lot of taller dolls are all leg so when you sit them down they don't really look that tall vs. when they are standing. :sweat

@pitzela Re: shoes -- there are loads of awesome looking shoes for the big guys on Taobao! I'm not even looking for them, but all the cool looking styles I want for smaller dolls seem to be mostly for boys; more specifically, HUGE boys. If TB is too tricky for you to navigate, maybe try Legend Doll or Alice's Collections. ^^
