What are your favorite hand poses for the different types of BJDs?

Apr 18, 2013

    1. We all know that jointed hands offer a wide variety of posing options...But for plain sculpted hands, what types appeal to you most in males, females, large, small etcetc. Do you like fists, pointed fingers, cupped, splayed etc. Do you like fused fingers? Fat, slim, long or short fingers? Smooth or well defined? Veins or tendons?

I personally tend to like long, slender, very slightly cupped hands for both genders. I think if they're too smooth and lack definition that they look like rubber gloves.

    2. You know, I've never given it thought before! I like the Delf hands, with their unfused fingers. I like the Shiwoo pointed finger, and the cupped El hand. He holds my finger with that hand!

    3. I like very feminine thin hands that almost becon you to them. I also love the scissor hands, so classy.

    4. I like slender fingers and delicate looking hands,on either gender. RS Lan has hands like that, and so does FDoll Dane. I also like separated fingers because they look more realistic than fused fingers, and a doll with splayed fingers can wear rings. :)

    5. I like hands with detail. Resinsoul has some of the most beautiful hands out there, in my opinion. Mostly, I like hands that are in a neutral, open position. I think they're more versatile than, say, a closed hand or a pointy-finger hand. Some of my dolls have more than one pair of hands, though.

    6. I am insanely picky about hands. lol It can vary for different characters, but in general:

Male SD/MSD- I like large hands, long fingers, masculine, veins/bones showing, lots of definition

Female SD/MSD- long, slender fingers, long nails, bones visible

Yo-SD- longer fingers. I can't stand the teeny size with sausage fingers and pointy nail hands. lol

In all sizes, I like realistic proportions, or on the larger size, separated fingers (oooh, don't get me started on fused fingers!), clearly defined realistic nails, and in a relaxed position. Pointing hands, fists, etc can be fun for specific photoshoots, but in general, I like a relaxed, neutral position that can look natural in most any photoshoot.

As far as the best hands ever.....I'm completely and totally in love with DikaDoll 70cm male hands. Big, veiny, nice nails, bones visible...yummy!

    7. I like both slender, feminine hands as well as strong-looking large manly ones. I guess I'm not very hard to please... I adore the Luts SSDF hands the most of all though... they look wonderful altogether.

    8. My very favorite hand pose is splayed fingers, with the middle and ring finger close together, like this MNF hand:

Other than that...I guess I tend to lean towards versatile but still expressive hands, like my B&G Sapphira's...or long-fingered elegant types...I really dislike "shovel" hands with all the fingers stuck together (some of the Soom tinies had this issue), or hands that try to look cupped but end up looking cramped (my biggest complaint about my 44cm Limho body, he looks like his hands are so cramped!).

    9. It seems my smaller dolls are the ones with the more odd hands over all and I don't mind them having quirky hand positions because I think it is more suiting to them somehow (several are more comical, so it is makes more sense). I like pretty expressive hands, but I can't say I've ever bought for hands over other features. While I love Limhwa hands probably the most (though I don't own one at present), I like my Dahlia's hands best out of my current crew:

    10. for a neutral posed hand (not a 'V'ictory pose or other) just a gentle curve. I like a hand shaped so it rests somewhat naturally over a knee... if it does that then the shape works with most any pose/position. I also like the detailed hands (veins, tendons). I am attracted to real ppl hands. (as opposed to say smiles or eyes)... Often hands suited to playing the piano, especially for female hands... And I like strong hands for males ... the kind that look like you would be 'held safe' in them... it basicly is the same for dolls for me... ^^ My zenith has huge hands but they feel 'stong' like they could shelter someone.... but about jointed? I can't find ones that come close to a fit match to his regular ones O_o ... Any ideas on that LOL?

    11. I like very well detailed hands. The kinds that are mostly flat, slighty cupped, with that elegant bit of splay to them. Like Minifee #3 hands.
But the Minifee #6 hands are gorgeous. Slightly balled with a few crooked fingers. Fists are really cute too.

    12. To be honest I don't notice girls hands all that much, but my favorite SD boys hands are Dollstown 15yr, Dollshe Pure, Dollmore Adam (large) and Glamor Model hands and FL CP Delf/F60. All of them have hands that can look relaxed or in motion, they're all beautifully sculpted and versatile. I do wish DT, DS and DM (what's with the D's D: ) all had more (or any) options...but usually I don't mind all that much because what they do have I really like. The FL/Delf hands are a little on the small side - I like large hands on my dolls - but they're on two of my smaller guys so it's ok XD
The DM Glamor Model hands are fabulous. They're so huge and detailed! I really need to get around to blushing him....

I like the MNF and LTF hands too. I don't actually use the boy MNF hands but I have all the girl options for my Karsh! He loves them XD

    13. I have to say, unless it particularly suits their personality, I prefer a male doll with big, manly hands that could pick up an [IMG]! For women, I'm not particular unless again, if the hands can enhance the personality showing through. Sometimes a big hearty, [IMG]toting woman hand is in order over the soft, delicatedly clawed and seductively curved hand of a vampire who pets her victim and coo's to them to stop her/his squirming. The level of detail is almost irrelevant as long as the hand gives off that correct vibe. It would seem that precise details often make or break that vibe though. The one thing companies should dwell on is natural looking hand poses, and one's that suit different personality dolls. I've been dissapointed by one of my YOSD's hands because of the quirky looking scissor fingers (anime is amazing, but Syjon is NOT Sailor Moon.) and the overly cute hand poses. (well.. and the lack of much detail too.) Still haven't gotten this boiling thing right, and prefer to just buy some more hands from another company instead. I like Resinsoul's detailed tiny hands. The first doll I ever assembled was for my friend who has this particularity - she abhors fingernails (on actual people) and thinks they're gross... I modded the fingernails out w/ sanding when he arrived... I also noticed Luts gave their tinie's at the time very long toenails. Those got modded too. I'm not sure I would like long toenails on really any doll but sanding them down is easy enough. It could work on a very glamor driven character but... Idk something about long toenails for me personally comes off as 'overgrown' and irky... it's why I can see how someone would hate fingernails too. I personally love nails and am guilty of enjoying manicures.

    14. Ohhh...this is a good question!

I tend to like hands without fused fingers that are slightly cupped. I really enjoy a delicate look, but...at the same time, I love big hands. I think that kind of ties into a real-life preference, too, lol.

I've found that my favorite hands have been Iplehouse hands. They have somewhat slender fingers, and detailed, vein-y backs. They are so freaking gorgeous. (I'd post pictures, but I'm at work)

    15. I really don't like hands which are overly detailed! Especially not with veins and stuff. I think it looks out of place, because the dolls themselves don't have that much detail over the rest of their body most of the time, so it's a little mis-matched. I think it's cute when dolls have painted nails, though. :3

    16. Individual (not fused) fingers are very important to me. Pose-wise, I prefer relaxed, open hands with medium detail (no super defined tendons or sausage fingers). I love alternate hands as well, and love the option of curled/fist/symbol/etc hands!

    17. Hehe! That cracked me up. I have a problem with Ringdoll's hands because they are just like that - smooth, flat, and lacking in definition. I call them 'pancake hands.' XD

My femme boys with their pretty hands tend to tangle their fingers in their hair or place their fingertips at their lips or chins. My more masculine boys cross their arms (if posability allows, which isn't often) or shove a thumb through a belt loop. My girls are more dramatic, with the backs of their hands against their foreheads like they're dainty/fainty. XD

    18. I like mostly smooth hands with some little details but not too much, chubby fingers but not too big and fist/cupped hands or slightly curled in fingers
I don't really like straight, long finger hands or completely splayed out or too much detail (with boy hands I'm alright with a little more detail than girl hands), and I don't like fused fingers but I can live with it

    19. I love the more elegant looking hands. My iplehouse JID hands are so beautiful. I also like MNF hands too. And I am a sucker for jointed hands.

    20. Personally, I love Iplehouse NYID girls basic hands. Though 'neutral', they are quite expressive and versatile to me:). I find them rather elegant as well.
