Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. What did you do when you got the wrong size of something? (wigs, clothes, etc)

Dec 18, 2013

    1. Just want to know how most owners reacted to getting the wrong size of an item for their doll.

My particular case would be a wig that I ordered and bought the wrong size! It's going to be to big for sure now, and its too late to change my order...

Did you buy another in the correct size and return the product? Did you sell your unfitted item and buy a new one afterwards?

Just want to know how others handled this type of thing.

    2. The one time I got something that was the wrong size, I wasn't sure if it would fit the doll I was ordering it for anyway so I just took the chance. Fortunately it fit another doll that I had also thought it might be good for, so I just kept it. If I were you I would contact the company if the order hasn't shipped yet and see if they can change it. If you're basically just swapping one wig for another that shouldn't be much of a problem for them. If not, your only option is probably to buy a new one, and see if you can use this wig for another doll, sell it, trade it for another one on the Marketplace.

    3. I have gotten wrong sizes a lot of times =_= the first time was a shirt, I ordered SD size and they sent it in MSD size and I also got the wrong style. I was disappointed but I didn't do anything...come to think of it, I don't even know where it is...none of MSD boys ever used it.

Recently, I got a pair of eyes in the wrong size too...this one I had to contact the company because I had no use for them in 12mm and I've ordered them in 16mm but they gave me a refund.

    4. Everything I got for my Elfdoll Rita was way too big! She was my first BJD, and after hearing so many people talk about how BIG an SD-sized doll is, I was so surprised at how small she seemed to me and how tiny her head was. The wig I got for her was a size 8-9 and she'd probably be better off in a 7-8. But it was exactly the perfect wig as far as style and color and I wasn't about to try returning or exchanging it, so I just used my sewing skills to alter the wigcap to fit her head. The first eyes I got for her were also far too big.... 16mm for a doll that should have between a 10-12mm! The iris filled her whole eyewell and then some--- she looked like she had animal eyes, which was not the look I was going for with her! Fortunately those were inexpensive acrylics, so I just ordered her another pair in the right size. (And now that I've seen and held an MSD, I finally get the "SDs are huge!" thing--- my Rita doesn't seem big to me at all on her own, but she's ginormous next to a delicate little MSD!)

    5. I ordered a custom wig for a 27 cm doll who needed a 4" wig. The seller misread the 27cm as the wig size I was requesting so I ended up with a wig around 8" instead of 4". I was pretty bothered, since I was tired of him being bald. I talked to the seller and they apologized but didn't offer any sort of compensation. It was a custom commission so I understand they'd want to still be paid for their time and materials. Since I do commissions, I know stuff like that just happens. It was simply miscommunication and I had confused them so it wasn't really their fault.
Then a month later I ended up getting my first real bjd, and the accidentally over sized wig fit him! So it worked out for me in the end.
But if it was from a company or eBay seller, I would ask if I could return it. If they don't accept returns I would try to sell it or give it to someone who could use it.

    6. I usually try to make it work but if I can't its sell or re-gift time

    7. What I buy usually gets used by some doll even if it's not the one I was planning on using it for. I rarely bother to return stuff. I just find a doll in my collection that can wear it. You know it's funny as many times as I've looked at something and thought it was useless inevitably I find it fits some other doll at some other point or can be altered to. That's one of the things I like about collecting dolls. Not much wasting going on. It's pretty easy to recycle or re-purpose.

    8. I've had companies accidentally send me the wrong size/style of things before. I've had pretty good luck with them correcting the error. Most sellers are very gracious when they make a mistake. When I first started buying stuff for my dolls I did purchase a few items in the wrong size. I ended up trading it with a dolly friend. No big deal!

    9. There's a number of things you can do... Resell on the marketplace, use it on another doll if possible or even alter it to fit. Sizing a wig down is definitely doable, same as for clothes. Making something larger is definitely harder, though...

    10. The couple of times I ended up with something that didn't fit the doll I ordered it for I just stored it away in my doll cabinet; many months later my husband actually got his first doll and it worked perfectly for her.

    11. when i was first learning about bjd i actually bought a wrong size head once! it floated in a drawer until i felt like doing something with it. after that i try to be really careful.

    12. Usually it's easier to sell the item here than it is to return stuff. I think I've just done that when it happens (which it doesn't often! --more often the wig just won't really look or work as expected and I'll need to sell it and buy another and hope that works out better).

Sometimes I will keep it and see if some other doll might fit it... but that doesn't always happen.

    13. It depends. If it was my mistake, I'll try to use it for another doll, sell it or gift it. I have enough dolls, one of them can most likely use it!

If it's the seller/company's fault, I usually ask to return it, unless return shipping is going to be too expensive to be worth it.

    14. This happened to me just recently, oops. ):

I purchased the wrong size wig for my first boy. The company I purchased from was so pleasant, though (there were some issues with my payment and they were lovely to deal with through that) so I would have felt really bad returning it... For now I've just kept it and purchased another one. I'll probably sell it in the future, or maybe I'll own a smaller doll in which it will fit. It's such a sweet wig, I'm sure either I'll find a use for it, or I'll find someone who can use it.

I think if it happens again, I might be inclined to try to exchange it for another product - let the company keep their sale, but still try to get something that I can use.

    15. Never happened to me, but i see no problem there. Well, only that it's pretty sad.

If it doesn't fit any of your dolls at all, you can always sell it second hand. Or return to the company for them to replace it with the correct size. Or if there was a possibility of me buying a doll of this size i could keep it to see if it would fit later...

    16. I'm too lazy to resell an item with such a small value such as a typical wig or shoes so if it doesn't fit any of my dolls I put it aside and it eventually floats off into the universe headed for parts unknown.

    17. I'd try to fix the size; if it's too big I can make it smaller, but if it's too small I'd give it to another doll of a different size.

    18. I bought a Leekeworld Gray doll second hand because I new he was my Damian when I saw his face... I had no idea that finding a wig for him would be so difficult! (Well, I knew the coloring would be hard because he's got blonde hair and has dyed streaks of it purple--but just the sizing... UGH. I swear he wants to be bald!) So, when he arrived, I believe he had an 8/9 wig, which... should have fit. It was stretched to capacity and fell off pretty easily. So I thought, no big, I'll go one size up... and get a 9/10 wig. I went on ebay, got a couple of fur wigs that were grab bag wigs in the right size and a blonde one to be safe. (They were a good price too, so thankfully I didn't loose out on them.) They came, I was excited. I tried them on--they didn't fit and Damian /literally/ threw them off. The only one that remotely worked was the wig I got because I liked it, even if it didn't fit a specific doll. -.- So back to the drawing board I went. I wound up buying him a baby reborn wig, which isn't a perfect fit but close enough that it stays on without a lot of hassle. (Damian still likes to throw wigs. He's got such a picky personality!)

I haven't decide don whether I want to keep the wigs or try selling them at a Meet. Most likely, I'll sell or trade. The great thing about this hobby is that you can always reuse the stuff that doesn't work for you. (Or keep it for another doll it /will/ work on!)

    19. Oh my gosh, I have so many dolls, that I always just use it for another doll and then buy another, unless I don't have money and need the funds, then I would exchange it if possible or sell it and buy the one I need.

    20. I've done this once so far and it was my fault.
I got a wig for my Minifee before she got here and even though I did research to try and make sure it would fit, it was too small.
I'm just going to keep it around for if I get a doll that it will fit.

If I got the wrong size of something and it was the companys fault then I would be taking it up with them to sort the matter out and get the right size.
