1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What do you think is the most popular doll size?

Oct 1, 2013

    1. Hey guys!
I'm currently working on a design project for the doll community (of which I am very happily a part of!), and was wondering what do you guys think is the most popular doll size in the doll community?

As a follow-up question, what do you think is the most popular doll in the community?

[EDIT:] Apparently I waited too long to do the poll! Sorry guys. Post your comments down below.

    2. I'm not sure honestly. It's a pretty even variety all around. I thought I was going to purchase a doll around 40cm as my first, turns out I'm purchasing a 70cm, so we'll see how it goes for me.

    3. I feel you! I initially thought that my 40cm would be the most fun, but I've been having the most fun with my 60cm's. :)

    4. I THINK SDs are the most popular, but it's hard to tell for sure. And I'd say that FL Chloe is the sculpt I've seen the most.

    5. I want to say SD size is most popular as well simply because they seem to make up the majority of the ones I see at meets... although I do have friends that are hardcore MSD sized lovers...

I think I prefer SD myself... though recently my tiny collection has exploded... they are like potato chips!

    6. It does seem to me that there are more 1/3-scale dolls posted around here than anything else, but there are an awful lot of Tiny dolls (Both the regular Yo-sized 1/6-scale dolls and the smaller Micros) out there, too... and collectors of itty-bitty dolls tend to have big collections. Those little guys seriously are just like potato chips... Nobody only has one.

    7. I 100% think that SD's are the most popular. But let me be more specific, SD Boys. I see more SD boys than any other doll in this hobby. Dolls that I would never ever own, lol. I think they are the most popular because besides bjd's, what other kind of doll makes realistic looking boys? Nobody. Barbies aren't realistic, neither are boy pullip dolls.

Also, I think rivaling the popularity of SD boys, are tinies! 16cm, to be exact. I know quite a few people who are STRICTLY tiny collectors. Have you see some of the crazy awesome Lati collections?!

As for the most popular doll...I don't know. It's impossible to gauge. There are loyal fans for all the companies. Lots of Volks dolls. Fairyland is mega popular. So is Iplehouse, SOOM, etc.

    8. I think SD is the most popular size from my experiences in reading this forum and from my past of attending meetups, and some sort of Fairyland doll is by far the most popular from what I've seen - I'm not particularly familiar with FL, just their distinct company aesthetics, so I don't know which FL doll in specific. :)

Edit: Just looked up the FL sculpt Razzy mentioned and I think they're correct; FL Chloe is the sculpt I've seen the most.

    9. I actually had a lot of trouble buying clothes for my 41cm girl because most of the things I found were SD sized! The variety of wigs and clothes and accessories for SD dolls is much greater. That must mean there are a lot more people buying things for SD dolls.

    10. Like Hadlais said, I think that there are people with SD sized dolls because of the large amount of clothes, shoes and wigs available for that size.

And for the short time that I've been involved (er lurking) in the BJD hobby, I've seen many many FL Chloe sculpts.

    11. By the number of Discussion and Marketplace threads on DoA, I'd think the Large dolls are in the lead, followed by Tinies and lastly Minis. But I wouldn't say it's the "SD" size, actual SDs are 58-60cm, which is on the small side. I'd say the most popular specific doll size is more like 62-65cm which would be akin to SD16s and SD17s.

Most popular single doll sculpt right this moment? Or overall for the last 10 years? Right now, Minifee Chloe seems to be everywhere. If you ask around I think more people overall have a Luts Delf El tucked away someplace. If you count the fact that El now comes in many scale sizes, he's the hands-down winner.

    12. I used to love my SD sized dolls though recently I've been playing mostly with my MSDs. Smaller sized dolls became more appealing to me ever since I had to move overseas. Its so much easier to travel with them though most of my collection is still SD sized.

    13. I have a feeling that SDs are the most popular. They always seem to pop up more often than any other size. But honestly, I don't really know. I do know that SDs are the most popular among my collection though :). As for the most popular doll in the community, no idea.

    14. Probably SD then MSD though I have seen a lot of people lately collecting tinies too. There always seems to be more stuff for sale or swap in the SD/MSD sections of the market so it just seems to me that people are buying and selling more dolls of those sizes.

    15. I feel its a hard mix from SD and MSD, I see a lot of both on DOA and tumblr and DeviantART

      Its hard to say XD

    16. I feel like the most popular is probably SD? I dunno, I personally love SD, it's my favorite size, but I see SO MANY different sizes online... I think that in general, after SD is mature\slim MSD, then 70cm, then YoSD... But I'm just going off what I see for the most part. I dunno! I'd be interested to see what the results are!

    17. I was about to say, I had the impression that a Luts El was pretty popular - but both of my friends have Chloes, and they're gorgeous. *_*

    18. Definitely SD's are most popular, because lets face it, when Volks presented the world with the first abjd, it was a 60 cm doll, and it stood out to people because of its size [among other things]! But yeah, I think second in line would definitely be tinies, like 20cm or smaller. Most people I know own at least 1 SD, but have yet to meet someone that collects only SD like Tiny lovers.

    19. I would guess Large/SD13/70cm/SD17 sized dolls.

BUT... this is changing a lot over time and as more tinies and minis are produced. It's starting to even up. And some other size may become more popular, but who knows? I can't see a trend other than the one where there are more sizes of dolls and not really one size increasing in popularity...

In the early days of BJDs, SD size definitely ruled--mostly because there were NO tinies and only a few minies, to begin with!!!

    20. From what I can tell talking with others, SDs are the most admired but if we counted all the BJDs currently existing in the world we'd have an overwhelming number of tinies. I think it's because of a combination of cost, storage ability, and of course because they're adorable!
