What emotion do you like your doll to have?

Apr 22, 2014

    1. To be honest, I always thought I'd like my doll to be smiling or have a peaceful look on his face and yet, to my surprise, chose a doll with a sad face. He was just so appealing and handsome with a sad face. It also fit in with his backstory and personality as well. XD

So the question is, what is your favourite emotion to have on a doll?

    2. I do prefer a doll with a range of emotions that can be seen on her face, but I think my favorite would be a doll who is good at looking coy. This is probably why I like Chloe and Celine so much.
Although I think Chloe is has a wider range of emotion to her than Celine.

    3. I like the whole "bedroom eyes" thing because if my doll is giving you a sexy look in every picture it's really photogenic and nice. It's also funny because they look like they're constantly trying to seduce you. I also like dolls that look calm and sleepy because sleepiness is really cute to me.

    4. So far I love my Marcia sculpt. She can look sexy, sultry, sweet and also very pissy (which I find adorable) :) I like a sculpt with a versatile range of emotion.

If I had to choose just one emotion from their face I would like a sultry, dreamy look.

    5. It really depends on the doll, but if we're speaking in general terms, I'd say I go for the more sad, serious expressions. Almost all of my dolls have pouting or neutral lips, and ironically the only two who have smiles painted on are dolls with sculpts that naturally frown. I also prefer neutral shaped eyebrows as opposed to the sharp angles. I guess it's because I'm really not a huge fan of the "smirking" expression or overly cheerful, so I try to aim for something a bit more subdued.

    6. I like smiles. Maybe not open smiles with teeth showing (they are really easy to overdo, producing the opposite effect), but soft smiles with lips closed. However, I'm now waiting anxiously for AoD girl with a lovely open smile, I just could not resist her!

    7. I prefer that my collection displays a range of emotions. I have happy dolls (Migma, Coquina), sad dolls (Nephelin, Heliot), proud dolls (Chrom, Chalco), pouty dolls (Beryl, Clozel), thoughtful dolls (Bix, Alex) and plenty of others with more subtle emotions. I don't mind dolls that have more 'obvious' emotions, since I just see that as them having a very strongly defined character. I love dolls that have 'character', and that doesn't really rule out any facial emotion!

    8. I prefer either slight, peaceful looking smiles brought out more by the paint than by the sculpting, or slightly worried/nervous looks. I generally don't like anything that looks very strongly one way.

    9. At the moment I like my mouse to be mischievous (she is only 4 years old, so it suits her). Strangely enough this has an effect on her innocent face...

    10. The majority of sculpts on my wishlist (or my watch list in the case of photos) are pouty or frowny things. There's a few smilers, but really, I'm mostly drawn to grumpy or forlorn looking sculpts.

    11. This is similar to my preference. I like gentle smiles or slight pouts, and I think these can be accentuated by the painting of the lips and eyebrows. I also like some neutral expressions, but it really depends on the character the doll is meant to represent. I don't like those big open-mouth smiles. I sometimes do like frowns but I think I would get tired of them quickly. I like faces that are more "versatile" that can convey a range of emotion through posing and "body language".

    12. I really like expressive dolls and I'd love to have a wide range of expressions in my collection, but I think in general a good expression to have on a sculpt is one that has ability to be versatile... both of my msd girls have faces that can range from super pouty at one angle to slightly smiling or smirking at another... Bitter especially seems to have a little kid pout from one side and a sweet smile from the other; I actually think her mouth might be sculpted a big asymmetrically, but it might just be the faceup.

My newest girl, a dt sia, was one of my grail sculpts because I loved her serious, grumpy face and the way some of her company pics accentuated that... But now that I have her and have been looking at her blank head a lot I find she can be really versatile too and I wanna preserve that when I get her faceup commissioned.

One of the really cool things about bjds I think is that for even some of the more expressive sculpts you can get a TON of different looks and feelings depending on the faceup and how you wig and dress them and pose their bodies and eyes and what angle you're looking at them from.

    13. I prefer subtle looks, I'm not a big fan of extreme emotions showing because it can be very hard to work with in the long run.
That's why I don't like yawning/screaming sculpts or ones with big goofy smiles and teeth. They are nice as optional heads, but for a standard face I prefer a soft smile and either friendly or serious eyes.
I also have a frowning head (IM Hound) and my Beryl looks pretty grumpy too, but I prefer the ones with a slight smile :D

    14. All of my dolls look evil, pissed off, or evil and pissed off. I have a thing.

I'm going to try and have one that doesn't look evil or pissed off, but I am not sure if it's going to take.

    15. I like my SD to have a gentle look but savvy. I like my MSD girl to have several looks depending on how I dress her. I have a MSD male and they look great together. It took some time finding a male that would match my female. My little YOSD's i like there expressions to be cute and playful. Ready to have fun.

    16. I really like for my BJDs to have intelligent features. I'm not sure quite how to describe it, but they need to look like they're thinking about something. A lot of my dolls aren't smiling.

    17. I like my dolls to have a neutral look or a smile on their faces, but nothing overly done. I don't really like the frowning dolls. I think I would go for friendly faces :)

    18. It depends on the character I'm getting the doll for, for some a slightly sad or wistful look works with their background. But mostly I prefer a slight smile, because that's an expression that tends to look very different depending on the angle and therefore works quite well in photographs.

    19. I seem to go for two types of expressions: pouty and smiling. I don't like big smiles, lots of teeth, or tongue-hanging-out open vampire mouths, but when I find one that has a hint of teeth along with a faint smile (RingDoll Spencer and SpiritDoll Candlenut come to mind), I am sold. I have seen some beautiful dolls that just looked bored or like they were staring off into the distance, and I didn't care for those. I like to have dolls interacting in photos rather than posing them alone, so expressions make the interactions (along with body language) more believable.

    20. It does depend on the type of character it is but i mostly like the content look. where the don't look super happy or super sad, they just look like their okay(?) Lol.
