It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What have you done to inside your doll's headcap?

Apr 13, 2013

    1. Usually when we have something new to test out on our dolls the first place to get it is the headcap. New type of sealent? Headcap! New faceup material? Headcap! So, what story does your doll's headcap tell? :)

    2. I know some people on here like to write their name inside their doll's headcap in case something ever happens to them, but I wouldn't do that in case I wanted to sell the doll later... I think the most I've ever done (aside from, yes, testing sealants and paints on the headcap) is leaving a second pair of eyes or a piece of paper with a secret message inside my doll's head. Or a perfume sample swatch. Because it smelled so good. xD

Lysander has a random '14' written inside his headcap, though. I am pretty sure the company did that when he was made. I tried to scrub it off, but it's graphite pencil and it stained the resin.

This may be slightly off the point, but I had thought of writing a fancy little summary of the doll's character and keeping it taped or silicon'd to the inside of his headcap. Maybe it would help people with dolls who don't take their intended characters very well? :?
They can meditate on their backstory all the time until it sticks...

    3. I actually don't use my headcaps for testing, but the weirdest thing I HAVE done to a headcap is stick some sage inside of Kane's. Weird stuff started happening in my house right after I got him.....so I stuck sage in him to try to calm the activity. lol

    4. Graphite really shouldn't stain resin by much, it's just a very slippery weak rough carbon. If you wet a cloth or use a Magic Eraser that should come right off. I use pencil to mark resin for mods and it comes right off when I wash it gently.

I don't usually leave the results of my testing in the headcap, but some of my dyed dolls have lighter headcaps than bodies.

    5. Really? It must be drawn on there with something else, then, because I tried a magic eraser and it didn't even fade. He is 3-4 years old, though, so maybe it's just been on there too long.

Oh well, it's inside his head so it certainly isn't a big deal. :)

    6. I haven't done anything to my girl's headcap (other than fight with it to get it back on the first time I took it off), don't think I'll ever do anything to it

EDIT: a friend accidently dropped Nadeko the other day and I had to glue her head plate back on....

    7. As many as I own, I've done nothing to any of their headcaps. Now a couple, or more, have numbers/letters written inside, but that's from the factory.

    8. I broke one of the little lips that hold the headcap in place off when I knocked the headcap off of my table as I was restringing my doll... it was only one of 4 of them so... it's not that big of a deal... but since she was my first doll I pretty much cried lol

truly love it - that IS the traditional manner in which golems (not gollum but the animated sculpts of clay talked of in the Kaballa & related lore) were animated :D Just saying LOL

    10. I use a watercolor pencil to write the year I received them inside the headcap. I can usually remember the month on my own.

    11. I write the name of the doll maker and sculpt and my name for the doll inside the head cap. I have collected vintage and antique dolls and so often information is lost over the years which makes it difficult to identify old dolls. If my dolls are still around in 50 or 100 years, I want there to be a record of who they are.

    12. gypsydale- That is an excellent idea! I currently have nothing in their head caps, but I think I may do that tonight!

    13. Gypsydale Oh! I love that idea. I wouldn't want to write on the doll, but maybe if I sprayed it with MSC, then wrote on the inside, that'd work...

Cloakedschemer Sticking sage inside of a doll is a good idea to cleanse whatever energies might have stuck to it. I'm a firm believer that the longer a doll is with us, the more of our emotional energy is absorbed into it. You know... in a velveteen rabbit meets supernatural sort of way. ^_^; I've never had to do it for my dolls, though!

Personally, I've never done anything to the inside of a headcap, except test them before dyeing a doll. But I toy with the idea of sticking little notes inside the head, or inside the body itself... since I intend to keep most of my dolls for life (or until I give them to close friends or family) it'd be a nice little time capsule type of thing. :D

    14. Nothing at all! But if I were the type of person that liked going to meetups and conventions (I'm not!) then I would definitely write something like, 'This doll is stolen. Please contact me at [insert phone number or email address] if you find this doll!' juuuuust in case!
