It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. What if our dolls had Jointed Fingers?

Feb 21, 2006

    1. A quick question:

Do you like the way your dolls hands are? Or would you like them to move?

Obviously noone has made these types of hands for our dolls yet but imagine how the hands would pose if even the fingers had joints!

I started to think about them after seeing Plastic Trees Music Video. They don't come out very much, but when they do they do the little wave gesture and it made me wonder.

If you don't have a clue what I'm talking about, they'd look exactly like that.

I don't know, I like the thought but what about the rest of you all? If these hands were to be made, they'd be able to wrap thier whole fingers around a cup and have better movements.

Don't get me wrong, I love the stillness of the hands now that dolls have but I think it would be great to have other options.

What does everyone else think? Like, or dislike or no comment. XD!

~I've been loving everyones comments so far and so far it's been a little of yes and a little of no. Now okay for the people that said no, what if they had joints but still looked just as beautiful as they do now? As in they can add other type of joints other then string?

    2. I would love option hands with jointed fingers!

    3. Ditto-no more buying of seperate hand parts just because you want your doll to point at something! They'd have to be strung independantly of the body, though, or else changing hands could be a potential nightmare!

    4. There are asian artist's dolls with jointed fingers and even jointed toes. ^-^

Also, dollmaker Ariadne makes optional hands for Volks dolls that have somewhat jointed fingers. I don't have a picture though and it is hard to explain. The thumb is jointed separately and I think the other fingers are treated as a block but jointed at the knuckles.

    5. I would love it...but I agree with Little Miss.

    6. Ironically listening to Plastic Tree while reading this : O

I like my boys hands, mostly because that's how I draw hands normally, but I'd love to have optional hands that bend!

    7. Exactly! Ah, the possibilities. XD! And yes, a huge huge nightmare. It's bad enough sometimes the body stringing can get hard, imagine the hands.

    8. I didn't know this. I need to research about this so I can see the hands. O_O

    9. Ariadne makes dolls that have many, many joints. (Multi-jointed spines, jointed shoulderblades that can support moveable wings, etc.) My icon is an Ariadne optional head with separate eyelids.

The website is here but the jointed hands are not on the site:

So I guess that doesn't help much, but I didn't want anyone to look for something that is (I think) impossible to find outside of Japanese doll shows.

    10. I wouldn't like it. I like Shou's hands because they're realistic and they're beautiful. Those just look so fake to me. They'd be handy, but they wouldn't LOOK good to me. I would never buy them.

    11. Hmm.. I think it would be interesting and really neat, but with that size and detail, I think they would be extremely fragile and also very hard to put together. I would totally buy a pair though.

    12. Awesome site and thanks. I'll be looking at it some more.

    13. I think Dollyholic said that Narindoll was working on something like this, didn't she?

    14. I'd love something like that. I've tried to get my friend with a sculptin degree do something like that for my Obitsu and he cringed and said he hated hands. :(

    15. Im gonna have to agree with omichao on this one. I think the thought of fingers that bend is so neat and i was thinking that it would be pretty cool until i read omichao's comment. They would not look very pretty at all, and would be incredibly hard to string, and the hands that they have now are so beautiful and realistic. Im not saying its not a good idea, it just wouldnt look the best, thats all.

    16. The idea is neat but it will be very difficult if not impossible to have jointed fingers and hands that look realistic and nice. I would want my girls to be able to hold things in their hands without the help of blu-tacks.

I've seen some dolls with jointed fingers (sorry I can't remember where I've seen them) and they look more like puppets to me with those kind of hands than just dolls, if you see what I mean.

    17. Hmm, freedom of movement versus the beautiful lines that the hands have right now. I think optional jointed hands would be nice, though I'd be loath to give up the ones he has now for good. I love seeing photographs people take of their dolls' hands, and while jointed fingers would be wonderfully convenient there'd also be a big drop in the realism of the hands, I think, since even in the picture that was linked the joints are very visible. Ahh, to have the best of both worlds!

    18. Hhmmm... I've considered doing that for an android character I've always wanted to embody as a doll... that would be so awesome!

But for my normal dolls... as wonderful as that is... I'd rather just swap out a bunch of expressive, non-jointed hands than have hands that could pose like that. They just look too robotic.

    19. Ooo that would be soo awesome *imagines all the cool things she could make her dolls do with jointed hand fingers* And even if you didnt want them to look like that or be like that sometimes you could still use the unjointed ones =D plus I always love how joints look... donno why but I think they're cute!

    20. this would be great, but I would really only be interested as an option as hand sculpts are even more important to me than head sculpts, I would hate to loose the beautiful detail (I bought a hound almost purely because of his hands, saw the hands, fell in love and decided I had to have him then realised how beautifully the rest of him would fit my character and it was a done deal)
