Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. What Inspires you?

Oct 12, 2013

    1. I browse and consume all kinds of media, everything from nature documentaries to sci-fi/fantasy. I am impassioned by the wonder of the natural world and the dizzying imagination of the human mind. I am drawn to pathos, and psychology and the simple act of living. But visually speaking, sometimes I just see something really cool and want to make art resembling it. Today's imagination spark is this image.[IMG]I have a few designs for winged dolls and the biomechanics of this statue really get me thinking of new possibilities I can try. What kinds of things get your creative juices flowing?

    2. Anything and everything inspires me. I find it ironic that I am love crime thrillers, true crime and stories of serial killers but my doll is a little sweetheart who wouldn't hurt a fly. With my writing though I do draw on crime, gore and the fantastical for inspiration.

I think when it comes to my doll I need her to be something innocent because I don't want to surround myself with death.

    3. I'm inspired by nature, antiques & fantasy. Also by the universe I've created for my SDs. Well actually the dolls themselves inspired that world & they keep letting me in on it bit by bit, the same way they tell me about their characters.

    4. I am inspired by whatever I see; be it a certain disease which is incredibly rare, a mythology, culture, music, movies, video games and other anime/manga/

    5. I once came across a doll action animation and I totally fail in love with it.

    6. I'm inspired by color palettes and they're what really allow me to visually make my dolls into what's ideal for me, and the color palettes chosen often create their personalities too. :)

    7. Yes! Animation is sooooo cool and is pretty much directly responsible for why I ended up getting into this hobby.

Colors are also very important, I save so many pictures from tumblr based solely on the the palette represented within. My favorites are purples and teals, but I have seen some startling oranges and riotously bright colors I'm astonished to see in photographs. One of my favorite aspects of the internet is that I feel like I'm reading/browsing a National Geographic magazine all the time.

    8. The books I read have the most influence on me. Right now I'm on my fourth round of reading the A Song of Ice and Fire series.
I gravitate towards fantasy, mythology and just about anything with wings and pointy ears.
I don't think I could settle for just having a regular doll without added special/animal/fantasy parts.

    9. Yeah, I consider my biggest challenge being here will be the fact that at least half my dolls will probably be off topic for DoA. In addition to making them myself, I want to build several completely inhuman dolls.

    10. Oh man, EVERYTHING inspires me! A song that evokes a certain feeling or image, an actual image, a dream. I will often just make characters out of the blue based on doodles or off a new doll that I love (so then I have an excuse to get the doll later on!) And I am often inspired to creature certain things for dolls if I see a perfect place outdoors to take a photoshoot or even photostory, but it has to have a certain feel, the same feel I imagine when just looking at the scenery. Once I found a 1\3 scale fiberglass VW bus body, and I'm still hoping to get it someday and turn it into a totally in-scale vehicle for my dolls for a roadtrip photostory. This way maybe a year ago, and I still have plans to do it. I'll see buildings or furniture and wonder if I can replicate them in 1/3 scale... I just get ideas for all kinds of things, all the time, from everything!

    11. I am also inspired by EVERYTHING. I even had a dream last night about an outfit I want to design. This hobby is so versatile, I find myself inspired with clothing, locations for photos, ideas for costumes, etc. It's really amazing!

Wow, this is so cool, I've never seen anything like it. Have you found many other videos like this? I would love to make something similar!!

    12. I'm inspired by my own imagination.

    13. I'm inspired by everything, but how it manifests depends on my mood.
I'll be the first to admit I'm more inspired when I'm sad, lol. xD

    14. I am inspired by so many things, but music and colors are some of my big inspirations. Mythology too.

    15. the sculpt of the doll itself, music ( two steps from hell, trance, plumb are some good examples and anything that reminds me of the character i am creating) fabric and many other things

    16. Random things really. Like, if I see a commercial for a TV movie, sometimes I think to myself, "Hmmm...I think I could write a story with that plotline" or "Hmmm...I think the story could be better if this happened...". Or like you, if I find a piece of art in a gallery or book, I think to myself, "Hmmm...what can I do to this image and put my own spin to it?". For my dolls, I think, "Wouldn't be cool if they had this sort of outfit?" or "Hmmm, maybe I should write a story about these girls". So anything really can inspire me, it just might take a while before I follow through with creating a tangible piece that is a representation of that inspiration. =P

    17. The wonderful thing about this hobby is indeed it's versatility. I am inspired by everything from ancient history to the flowers I walk by to the dreams I had last night. I am currently making an ancient Egyptian throne room, jewelry and costumes for BJD photo story. The only problem is that all of my dolls want to be the king!

    18. I tend to get a little bit obsessed with one hobby at a time so right now I've been working on sewing clothes for my dolls. I find that going to the fabric store and seeing as well as feeling the texture of the fabric is what's most inspiring for me (at least with this hobby). When I feel the fabrics and match them up I get all sorts of ideas and want to run home and work on everything right then (even if I don't always have the skills to create what I envision yet).

    19. Anything! I have quite the imagination if I really get thinking. Anything I see in my life, or even my dreams, can trigger a spark of inspiration. :)

    20. As an "artist" I've got the imagination sparkle from almost everything... songs, music, books, movies, landscapes, items in a flea market o just scattered on the ground... when it comes to dolls, inspiration comes from my roleplaying character and the ones of my friends, from gaming session, from drawing and photos, sometimes from the doll itself ("that's an interesting mold, it suggests me something..." and similar cases).
