What is your doll's story?

I'm surprised more people haven't jumped in to share their characters! I'm not going to share all my characters (since I have over 20 of them!), but here are some short descriptions of some of my major characters:

Soom Cuprit: Nouva is a young wyrchemist in training - when she graduates, she will be joining the front lines of the military as an expert in chemical warfare and healing chemistry. She is from a very low caste in her society, and so deals with a lot of passive bigotry from people around her.
Soom Galena: Falx is an aviantrix - genetically engineered from birth to have wings, she flies for the airforce. Due to her engineering, she has a shorter lifespan than most humans, and in her early 30s is already having to come to terms with her mortality.
Soom Chrom: Löwe is a rebel. He was training for a military position, but his arrogance made him ill-suited to the job, and when some other students in his wing died freeing some camp prisoners, Löwe claimed the role of their rescuer and leader. Full of illusions of grandeur, Löwe means well, but tends to harm more than he helps.
Soom Migma: Seira is a monster. Considered a subhuman race, her species were kept as slaves in her society until very recently. Seira is a bit of an oddity, having not had her tail severed or her voicebox removed, unlike most of her people who were taken as slaves. Through mysterious means, she has attained a high military rank and now oversees most frontline strategies.
Soom Nephelin: Velia is not a monster, but she's convinced she is. Acting in the role of a state mother (essentially a foster mother for a large number of children), she constantly agonises over her dread of being found out. She expends a great deal of effort hiding her 'real self' from others, and worries constantly that her treatment of her children will be harmful, even though she means well and would never intentionally hurt them.

I think this thread might be more on topic if you ask people to explain how their dolls influence their character designs (as DoA is generally about dolls, and not about their characters!). On that topic, I personally find that Soom dolls work wonderfully for conlicted characters, because their sculpts often have very complicated expressions. All my dolls' character's backstories are developed more once I have settled on a sculpt, and so that sculpt has a lot of influence over my final interpretation of the characters. I will often start with a vague impression of the character (eg, Nephelin struck me as both innocent and anxious, and Migma struck me as both knowing and cynical), and think 'where would this sort of character fit into my story?'. Once I find a place that 'fits', I start thinking 'how would this sort of environment effect this character?' and development really progresses from there. I also have a lot of my characters interacting, so I can develop them through photostories of the dolls and setting up scenes with multiple dolls interacting together.

 

My major characters, not all of them because some still need to have more concrete reasonable background (story line is completed but in detail for other dolls aren't yet);

Ren (DF-H Xiangyi) : He was a human but because of Tsukigami Clan's curse. He was possessed by a kitsune, called Setsuha and had very long life. His original name was Renkuto and 600 years ago, he became clan head after the late clan head, Senmonya, was mysteriously assassinated by someone. Now he was an Ikebana master and owned a shrine in Akagumo. His object was to searching the mysterious yokai who made a contact with his ancestor and curses them, and tried to break the Tsukigami curse.

Katsuki (IS Calos) : He was an experimental alien which created for war and assassin purpose from the future who used a wormhole to return to the past in other universe. He spent 60 years on Earth to regenerate his body and to become a human'like creature. He learned about human and became one of them. Now he studied in the same university as Ren's (who had already graduated). He met Ren when he still studied in master at university and became rival during the sport festival. Even though he said that Ren was his eternal rival but actually they were friend and he visited Tsukigami mansion often.

Fayy (MD Mir) : Ren's cousin. His father was an unknown member of Tsukigami Clan long time ago and he married with his mother, who was an aristocratic lady. His Japanese name was Osamu but people usually called him Fayy Ellrott after his mother instead because he spent most his life time in Western before was called back to Akagumo by Ren. He studied pharmacy and like to do research about herbs. He was also cursed and possessed by an malicious Oni, called Toukichi.

Araazu (MD V.Miho hybrid) : One of the oldest vampires who traveled long way, long time, until met Katsuki and Ren at university's library. He came there everyday after sunset to borrow and read books. His past was unknown but the descendant of vampire hunter family Utoraz was still tracking him. His personality was really weird...

 

I have way way too many to go into detail here, but Justin is my main focus, and he's a well-known solo pop star. Only Up is a boy band including Parker, Kier and Dhani, as well as two of my sister's boys, and they've been the opening act on his tour. Most of the others are friends, family or staff to these guys (Or otherwise connected through family or friends).

Only two exceptions--

Pharaoh Ay is set in Ancient Egypt and, well...is a Pharaoh. haha He's also Parker's stepdad's 169 times great-grandfather.

Xerxes has no story. He's just a weird little freak that tends to pop up if somebody is hallucinating or using questionable substances.

 

Well, for me it all began with my Leekeworld Lionel head. I saw Buff's interpretations of the Marvel Avengers characters, and I have always seen Lionel as a good sculpt for Loki. However, I changed the whole story a bit. For example, my Loki joined the Avengers (more or less), my Tony Stark has married Pepper Potts and they have a daughter called Emilia. Bruce Banner does not change into Hulk, but is a weredragon (because I love dragons, and I do not like the Hulk as much).

 

Things like doll backstories can be wonderfully intricate! It's always nice to allow yourself to be pulled into another world.

Unfortunately, these kinds of personal subjects are off topic, so this thread will be closed. General discussion is more focused on the general aspects of ownership and the dolls themselves.
