1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Why our dolls are so needy? saving here & spending there

Sep 21, 2014

    1. BJD are so needy, they need new outfits, underwear, shoes, wigs, accessories, socks/stockings ,toys, furniture, working/painting materials/tools, etc..... Money is a big part at BJD hobby and almost all the good items are expensive and shipping cost is super crazy, But hey... they makes us happy :) , Still best props ever is the one that we made by our selves. for me I like to craft furniture & sew fashionable dresses and lingerie for my girls so I'm saving at this part, but I'm crazy about shoes & other accessories so whatever I save at outfits goes to new shoes ,wigs, accessories & handbags :) how about you guys on which part do you save and on which part do you spend the most?

    2. Save on - Clothes, I got into the hobby learning how to sew, so I make nearly all their clothes, anything they get that ISN'T made by me, is from swaps, getting a good deal at a meet on clothes, or their wigs and shoes. Or if one of my dolls came in a full set. (My second tiny is one)

Spend the most: Wigs. Its a frigging battle to find decent wigs, eyes - Easy, I've only had to buy four pairs of eyes the entire time I've been in this hobby, rest of my dolls came with eyes already installed and the perfect eyes. But Wigs...I swear are the banes of my existance.

      Only saving grace is.

Wig doesn't fit one doll, fits new doll. Said doll gets new wig that doesn't fit the other doll either, new doll that comes after gets it and so forth and so on. It's a cycle. I have three wigs I don't use, but I figure I'll keep at least one of 'em around that'll serve as the "new guy" wig.

But yeah...O__o I spent a lot of cash on WIGS.

    3. yea I totally understand the wig battle :) but sewing is a real precious gift at BJD hobby, and thank you for mentioning Eyes yea it's one thing that we could spend a lot of money in it as well till we reach to the right one.

    4. Save: tshirts, hoodies, sweats, gym shorts, underwear---I make all of that. I'm also pretty good at finding cheap secondhand items that work for furniture, or my dad helps me make stuff. I make most of my own jewelry too. Most of my props were cheap or free too, either handmade or little stuff picked up for cheap and repurposed.

Spend: shoes! wigs, eyes. really detailed clothing like fancy jeans, jackets, unique pieces. things I'm not so skilled at making. And Parker's pop star obsession....all the Justin Bieber and 1D merch in his room. Though to be fair, I did get a lot of it on clearance from FYE and Claire's. But that stuff is still not cheap....

    5. I can save on clothes. Can simply do everything I need myself. As for the props/accessories, very often it is possible to get something even in the nearest shop or make at home. But yeah, wigs and shoes eat a lot of money. Although well done and beautiful, they ARE expensive, and not that easy to do by yourself!

    6. And actually I came across at Michael's these bracelets that had beads on it that looked like clear blue acrylic eyes, they looked about ten or eight MM. I thought that'd be a real cheap way to get a good pair of eyes for a tiny or a Yo-SD.

    7. Haha...I think all I do is spend spend spend. I'm lazy (also so busy at work - so things I could save on, I don't:doh)

But if I were to divide it anyway:

spend: shoes and special accessories like bags, hats, special items they might own, etc

save: maybe clothes, eyes and wigs...most of my dolls can wear the same size so I rarely need to buy anything new in the eye/wig department cause I already have a stash of "failed" options from existing dolls.
