1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Would you own a doll with this facial expression?

May 23, 2014

    1. I am across this as I was doll searching and I'm not exactly sure what to feel about it.

Ringdoll's mona isn't a hideous doll, but oh my god her facial expression would leave me in tears. I may be soft at heart, but I can't say I understand the concept of owning a doll with seemingly so much pain written on his/her face. Her back story even seems tragic. All and all it's really sorrowful.

      What's your take on this?

    2. I would totally own her. I'd give her black hair and a Gothic faceup (well, not me, but I would pay to have it done lol). She would be my forever little mourner.

    3. I too would own her but go with darker hair and a bit more colour in her face. She does appear very pale.

    4. I guess she's for those strong enough to handle the expression.
Personally, I think I'd go into depression owning her, because she would always have the look of pain and misery.
She's beautiful, but not for me either. Too depressing, but hey, there is always a someone out there who will adore this about her. :)

    5. I'm not sure what to feel about it too but I'm sure that I wouldn't own her. Her expression doesn't inspire me to do anything with her other than tragic stories. In the beginning, I saw the "oh no, that's disgusting...I'm going to throw up!" face instead of a crying/sad face so now I can't help but think of that when I look at it. XD Great doll and concept but not for me.

    6. I don't think I'd ever want to own her. Simply because the expression is too extreme. If it was softened a bit, maybe. I don't mind sad faces, but I don't really do extreme emotions on dolls or in "art" of any kind. I guess that's why I wasn't a huge fan of puki pong's face.

    7. She'd make a really excellent resin version of those little cloth "worry dolls"...

    8. I adore her. Then again, I have a soft spot for angsty dolls and expressive faceups and sculpts so, she's right up my alley. If they ever come out with a boy version of her, I'm going to be sorely tempted.

    9. I think the artist did an excellent job capturing such an expression and I'd love to see custom face-ups on her, but I can't say that I'd want her in my own collection.

    10. I would definitely NOT own her. I don't like dolls with a facial expression that's too specific because it's restrictive. there's only so much you can do (for photos and photostories) with a doll that's constantly painfully crying or cheekily winking (etc.).
and this one specifically would get depressing to look at .__. just imagine looking over at your dolls on the shelf and seeing that face. that ruins the happy mood!

    11. Czechmix recently used this doll as a header/example for a thread on Dolls with extreme facial expressions: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?623897-Dolls-with-extreme-facial-expressions

That was the first time I saw Mona and was immediately smitten. I ordered her shortly thereafter. I don't do "stories" but I love to photograph my dolls and the more variety of expressions I have, the better. Plus I just love her face, and that outfit! I would have ordered that regardless.

If you check out the Ringdoll waiting room, you can see that there are several others waiting for Mona. I hope she is successful enough that companies are encouraged to do more, less bland, facial expressions.

    12. I don't know if I could...All of my other dolls look so content/peaceful/happy that she'd be probably the one in the corner being cuddled by one of the other dolls...>: She looks like she needs a hug.

    13. I think she's a beautiful sculpt. I think the artist did a fantastic job. However, I couldn't bring myself to own a doll with such an extreme expression of grief, because frankly it would make me sad. I do like that companies are experimenting with more interesting facial expressions, though!

    14. I wonder if Ringdoll will come up with a smiling version too, maybe depending whether or not Mona liked the candies offered to her. Owning her would be very interesting for me, because of my emotional response. I'll wait for a crying boy, though, before seriously taking this into consideration.

    15. I would love to own her. If they sold just her head I've have ordered her already as an alternate head to one of my other girls. I think they did a wonderful job sculpting her and I love variety in my dolls...I think she's very inspiring; I am way more attracted to tragic than I am happily ever afters.

    16. I wouldn't because I like dolls with neutral expressions, but I have a friend who wants to own Mona just to put her in normal happy esque poses for the comedy aspect (oops!)

    17. The more I look at her the more I like her, I think it'd be great to watch a sad movie together and cry together lol.

    18. She is too big for me, but you could make her look furious by adjusting the eyebrows.
Her lack of tears make her look like she is suffering from hay fever rather than crying.
She could also be made into someone with heavy eyelids and an awkward smile.
She could also be made crying of happiness.

    19. Oh wow lots of interesting responses here. Shirelae, I didn't think you could do that with her face-up but now you said it makes sense. The strange thing is I like extremely smily dolls, the ones who have these massive grins on their faces like Sleeping Elf's Bonbon. I can tolerate that, but the sorrowful dolls make me so sad. I wish I could hold Mona, but she would never heal. :(

    20. VampAngel, someone on the Ringdoll waiting list has ordered just the head from Ringdoll, evidently. In any case, jeeryama on eBay will sell just the head.
