1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Would you prefer to... Buy clothes or make them?

Mar 12, 2013

    1. Hi everyone:aheartbea, this tread is talking about bjd clothes, would you make clothes for them, or would you buy them clothes. For me it just depends on what my dolls are going to look like. My sewing machine and I always get into fights ,so I always like to buy clothes, and sometimes I make them by hand. The question are would you buy your clothes or make them, why and why not.:)

    2. I plan on making the majority of my dolls' clothes. :3 My first girl is very much into the whole Gothic Lolita look, and I can't find any outfits that have the right color scheme for her, so I'll be making my own. :) Besides which, I'm rather poor and doll clothes are expensive! XP

    3. My sewing skills are absolutely terrible and my patience is nil, so I have no choice but to buy clothes, although I would love to save money and also create my own unique garments. I'm always having sartorial ambitions I can't fulfil, even with a lovely sewing machine, so I just have to grit my teeth and try to buy clothes for them. I would rather they had a few lovely well-made, but expensive, clothes, than loads of my mishapen botched jobs! :(

    4. I would LOVE to make my own clothes, but I've discovered that my obsession for perfection doesn't always work for these guys haha. I spend hours pouring over the patterns and slopers wanting the most perfect perfect fit ever, while others just churn them out by draping or by using stock patterns that give an excellent fit (but not perfect enough for me)! So much easier to just buy them.

Eg, if I was gonna make jeans for me, I want them to be the most beautiful jeans that fit amazingly. But I'm more than happy to buy jeans from [insert company] so I don't go half naked ;)

    5. I'd say my clothing collection is about 50/50. I'd rather make simple things. No point in paying $15 for a plain tshirt when I can whip one up for $2 in 15 minutes! But on things I'm not skilled enough to make, like jackets, hats, highly detailed pants, I'd rather buy. I like to save the money, but I'd rather my doll look nice, and I'm just not capable on some things! lol

    6. I'd rather sew if I can xP but for some things that I can't do, or some I really really like regardless I'll resort to buying. My dolly wardrobe is a mix of bought and handmade.

    7. Hm, well, I'm a cheapo so I'd prefer sewing, but I'm not really all that great at it...and I have very limited fabric...so I guess, buying sometimes isn't too bad...

    8. I hope to have about half and half between buying and making. I already sew clothes for myself from time to time and making doll clothes seems like a lot of fun! Everything is better when its miniature >3<

    9. I'd rather buy them.

    10. Buy.

I don't have a sewing machine. I have done a few things by hand, but don't like how they look when I sew them.

I like some very complex styles--so the tailoring would be far beyond my ability.

Also--I go to fabric stores and can't find the right material and trim and notions--and even when I DO find them, the cost ends up being almost as much as buying clothes--but without any of the sewing done! *_*

So I find, for me, it is a better bargain to buy clothes!!!

PS-- the title of this thread is not very descriptive.

    11. i cant sew >.< but i repair their clothes, but thats it XD so i'd rather buy clothes for them.

    12. This is interesting, everyone having there own interest on sewing and not. Do forgive me, I tried making this post on my laptop, which I shouldn't have, and it messed up my title. So do forgive me for it not being too descriptive.

    13. If I had the skills I would make them because I like custom fitted clothes. But because I don't have the skills to make them myself I had to get commissions done. The only problem with that is the lady I had who did them is really no longer doing them so I have to find someone else.

Otherwise, I buy what I think will fit the best and depending on the angle of the photo shoot I'm doing I'll just pin things up.

    14. I like both. I like to make things, but sometimes I find some really cute things on the internet. I'm glad i don't live near any stores or I would really be in trouble then!

    15. Glad to hear, I love making things I know how to make. But other then that I buy them mostly

    16. Buy. I hate sewing. I really do.

    17. Buy. I can't sew.

Also, why does this thread have a 'waitlist' prefix?

    18. I try to sew as much as I can, I love the creativity of designing clothes and owning things that no one else has, I also participate in swaps because I love having stuff from all kinds of doll people all over the world, but then again, I still have to sew for my partners.

There are a few situations where I do buy clothes:
-When I can't possibly make it myself
-If I really like a fullset that comes with a doll I'm getting
-And once I bought clothes from a friend who needed funding for a limited doll.

    19. i mean. I'd LOVE to make them.... but... uhhh.... I can't make patterns or sew that tiny to save my life ^^; so I normally buy and alter.

    20. I would *love* to be able to make clothes for dolls someday, but until I have space for a sewing machine, money to buy one, and time to learn how... I'll have to stick with buying everything. :P Fortunately, there are some wonderfully talented people out there to buy stuff from. :)
