  2. Dollshe Craft and all dolls created by Dollshe, including any dolls created under his new or future companies, including Club Coco BJD are now banned from Den of Angels. Dollshe and the sculptor may not advertise his products on this forum. Sales may not be discussed, no news threads may be posted regarding new releases. This ban does not impact any dolls by Dollshe ordered by November 8, 2023. Any dolls ordered after November 8, 2023, regardless of the date the sculpt was released, are banned from this forum as are any dolls released under his new or future companies including but not limited to Club Coco BJD. This ban does not apply to other company dolls cast by Dollshe as part of a casting agreement between him and the actual sculpt or company and those dolls may still be discussed on the forum.     1. I saw a Resinsoul doll at DDE who was referred to as "Dong Boy." :wiggle The picture didn't let me see if this was descriptive or not.

    2. I went out to CA to visit friends a couple of years ago and they took me to a Chinese place out in Berkeley called King Dong. I kid you not. When we first pulled up I thought it was some sort of sex toy store but it wasn't. I never laughed so hard, and yes, the people that own it are apparently aware of the connotations. They just don't care. Apparently in China calling someone "Dong" doesn't mean quite the same thing and it's a lucky name for a business so....

    3. Well, it all depends on the language spoken in any given place. Here in Germany, we don't raise an eyebrow at "Dong". In the U.S., on the other hand, people won't understand why here, kids who read the name for the first time might giggle at Johnny Depp (in German, "Depp" means "idiot" - identical spelling, too).

      Dong isn't quite as bad as that doll that was released several years ago that was originally called "Penis" - until the company was made aware of, well, the problem with such a name. XD

    4. Czaerana- I used to own the Dong sculpt, and it's not descriptive. He's pretty average for a 1/3 bjd boy in that department. XD

      The other one I've felt bad for is IOS Anos. Such a pretty sculpt, with such an unfortunate name (at least in the English language). Someone once told me it was originally spelled Anus, until someone pointed out the issue, but I don't know enough about the company to know if that's true or not.

    5. [MENTION=44438]CloakedSchemer[/MENTION]: Unfortunately ano means anus in Spanish. So even if they had changed the name from Anus to Anos, the meaning just transferred over to another language. XD

      Poor things, it seems difficult to make names not so comical with all of these languages.

    6. My name is Dongwoo...I've been called variations of "Dong Boy" by many an English speaking friend. I suppose it's different when you're talking about the English slang. But to me, it's my name, the joke gets old, but I've built up an immunity to it. If I want to name a doll Dong, I will. But probably not, because that's my name haha.

    9. It means Noble Wolf though... so if they were trying to name a doll after something to do with wolves, well yeah. It is quite easy for someone to name a doll that without meaning for it to be bad if they dont think about the person behind WWII. Unfortunate it was though. lol

    10. To me, Adolf always has been just a normal name like every other one. In fact, an old friend of my family's first name is Adolf. Never thought it odd or unfortunate, not even after learning about Hitler and Third Reich in school (and they're VERY thorough about that here in Germany). You have to differentiate between the NAME and the PERSON. After all, there's still descendants of people like von Schirach or Goebbels - it's not the kids' fault that their Dads were major players in the Third Reich. (Or: Just because one Adolf was bad that doesn't mean the name per se is bad.)

      The name I WOULD take issue with is Hitler, not Adolf ...

    11. If it were just Dong, I probably wouldn't have gave it a second thought as it's something I've started to see more often over the years as I pay more attention to things overseas.

      But when I read "Dong Boy" my inner child starts busting a gut.
      Makes me crave Hostess Ding Dongs too.

    14. Yah, agree. Like, Dong - in German, that's no problem unless you know enough English to know it can have a different meaning. But just from the word, in German that's how you describe the sound of a doorbell - ding-dong.

    15. I got curious - according to Google Translate, "Dong" means "East" in Chinese. (They just had a "Chinese" option, nothing more specific.) Which ironically, was my grandmother's maiden name.

      And "Penis" (aka Colin) was one heck of a cute doll. I would have gotten him in spite of (or maybe because of!) the name.

    16. Personally I love names like that. It's fun and kind of cute. I grew up with a very unfortunate name myself, so I tend to sympathize, rather than point and laugh :hug: although I *do* smile and think, yes, unfortunate, like my own name.
