1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Young Doll Owners?

Oct 13, 2013

    1. I'm just curious, how old was the youngest doll owner you've ever met/talked to?
Right now, I am 15 years old. When I started the hobby, I was 14. I've never met anyone my age who is interested in BJD's. Just seeing if there is anyone else out there. ^-^

    2. I'm 17, but got my first when I was 16. I know one 12-year-old who's interested in getting a DOD boy! I'm also coaxing my 15-year-old friend into buying a BJD.

    3. I think the youngest doll owner I've talked to was 5 or so. ;) Her parents had gotten her a smaller doll of her own after she expressed interest in her mother's collection. I'm nearly 23 now, but I was 16 when I first got into BJDs. :) I think this is definitely a hobby that people of all ages can enjoy and engage with.

    4. 17 and I got my first BJD when I was fourteen but I've heard of kids as young as four getting dolls. I'm hoping to one day get my little cousin into it...When she's not a wild child.

    5. When I first learned and entered the world of BJDs, I was around 15, and today, I am 17, but my parents don't give a crap about me owning a doll. ^^

I am hoping to save up the money on my own, and buy more in the future as I become an adult!

    6. I first got into BJDs when I was roughly 13, but I couldn't afford my own doll until I was 18. I'm almost 24 now. The few others outside this forum I know in the hobby are always older than I am.

    7. Two or three of my younger sisters (ages almost-10, 8, and 6), would love to get into BJDs...though for them it could very well be "oldest sister has one, so I want one!" Guess time will tell =P
As for myself, I was 18 or 19 when I first found out about them, and almost 23 when I ordered my first a year ago.

    8. My god-daughter got her first doll (Haku, a MNF Shiwoo) when she was eight. She's fifteen now, and has gotten two more dolls since then (Sen, a MNF Shushu, and Aaron, a CP/Delf Vampire Elf Chiwoo).

Haku was a gift from her mom and I, but she saved up her own birthday, Christmas and allowance money to pay for half of Sen's price (Her mom and I paid the other half-). She paid for Aaron entirely by herself after spending the summer baby-sitting. ^_^

    9. My 7-year-old wants a Bobobie Elfkin for her birthday so she can make tiny fairy clothes for the little thing. We'll see. :)

    10. My daughter got an Obitsu Gretel for her birthday when she was 8 and a Goodreau resin boy when she was 9. She is 12 now and is happy having just the two.
Her mom's doll addiction hasn't infected her yet.
I guess I have enough for both of us.

    11. I joined the hobby when I was 15 years old and gotten my first doll in the same year.
Now five years later I'm 20 years old but still very much with this hobby (& my dolls!) :)

    12. My daughter is turning 13 in November, and will soon have two BJDs. My husband got me an SD girl from 5Stardoll this summer for my birthday and I let my daughter choose the free tiny that came with her; I am also giving her a Resinsoul Mei for Christmas. She has no idea she's getting Mei, so it's hard to keep a straight face when she looks at pictures of Mei online and tells me how much she likes her and daydreams about how she'd want to style her and so on, since her Mei is hidden in my room just waiting for Christmas! :)

    13. 7...my son has expressed interest in my dolls and wants one of his own. I have considered getting him one to dress and play with but he is rough with his toys and it scares me to spend a lot of money for him to run his cars into it and crack the body or something. Ive considered getting him a damaged body on the marketplace and fixing it up for him...that may be a better idea.

I also met a girl at a doll show I think between the ages of 5 and 10. Her parents bought her a doll...same reasoning as above. She took very good care of her doll (as well as her age allowed) the doll was fine but the wig and clothes werw something to be desired...

    14. ^ This. I think it depends on the kid and how well they take care of things. I told my daughter she needs to keep her room clean and show that she can take good care of her current toys before she gets a "nice" doll, so let's see what happens.

On the other hand, all her little friends have stacks of American Girl dolls and accessories, which cost $$$ (i.e. more than the bjd she wants). Where to draw the line?

    15. I also thought about the cost of American Girl dolls and similar things specifically targeted at my daughter's age group when deciding about getting her a BJD. An American Girl doll bought from AG with shipping costs every bit as much as the Resinsoul Mei I bought from Denver Doll Emporium, so it doesn't really make sense to say she's too young to have something so expensive. I think it really is all down to the individual child in question and how well they care for things. Looked at that way, it was an easy decision for my daughter--- she's incredibly responsible, works hard at her schoolwork and chores, and keeps the dolls and toys she already owns in pristine condition, so there's no reason in the world she shouldn't have a BJD.

    16. Oh my gosh I was 14 when I got into the hobby too and I'm now 19 :)

    17. Another thing to consider is durability. Cost aside, AG dolls are designed to withstand some rough love from children. Bjds can be quite tough but are not quite intended for that. You have a very lucky daughter!! :)

I was...20 something when I started collecting bjds. 25 maybe? The youngest collector I've met was 10 or 12.

    18. My daughter just turned 10 and has 3 BJDs of her own. She takes really good care of her dolls and comes with me to meets and shows.

    19. The youngest I've met was.....I think 13 at time, and he was just as much fun to talk to as any adult. :)

    20. I just got two bjds and I'm about to turn 14 on the 29th. :)
