Your choice of skin color?

Jun 28, 2012

    1. I'm just curious to see what type of skin color do people usually pick for their dolls. Do you have a favorite skin color? Is white and tan generally more preferred over the normal ones?

Feel free to share your favorite doll's skin color to and your reasons for liking a particular color. :)

    2. At the moment I'm on a complete tan skin trip, every tan doll I see i'm lusting over whilst i'm waiting for my much anticipated boy to arrive. However, typically, I love the white skin. That said, for me it's always got to be about what suits my characters and my characters skin tones vary and, therefore, so do the skin colours I prefer on particular dolls.

But still, if I was buying a doll without a character in mind and just because I like the doll I think I would tend to veer towards white skin every time, it just looks so luminescent and beautiful, kind of ethereal.

    3. I prefer white skin dolls. My partens always say that a have a "snow white complex" :). white skin, red lips and dark hair, thatยดs why most of my BJDs are white skin ^.^
But I also like a pale normal skin.

    4. If it where possible, i would have all my dolls from different companies in the Iplehouse real skin. Its just so pretty.

    5. White skin does give that translucent and gentle look about them, don't they? I do love how white skin looks too, but sometimes I feel that having too many white skin dolls makes it look less "special", but that could be just me. :)

Ooh cyberspacegirl, I do agree that Iplehouse's real skin is just gorgeous! If only all doll companies offer it.. that would be amazing!

    6. Yeah, i think an ideal doll would be a real skin MNF Chloe.

    7. I'm a huge fan of Iplehouse's Realskin as well. I think it's just so versatile, it can be almost any ethnicity. From light-skinned African, Indian, Asian, and Caucasian, it's just warm and lifelike and can be whatever you want it to be. Someday I may even own one :sweat

    8. It really just depends on my character. I have WS, I have chocolate. But my favorite resin is environmental, specifically the kind Blue Blood Doll uses. It's my fave!

    9. The longer I'm in this hobby, the darker skin that I like. I started off with a white skinned boy, the next was a normal skinned girl, and now I'm considering an iplehouse peach gold skinned boy. Soooo, we'll see how the line goes...
But I agree with Cyberspace girl more companies should offer iplehouse's realskin.

    10. I like natural looking tan all the way to Iple's deep brown ebony. I think it's just prettier. I love my normals and the handful of whites, but my tans look sooooo lifelike. Iple owns my dolly heart for that.

    11. Somehow I've ended up with mostly white skin. It was totally not intentional either. Mostly it's because they're dolls I bought on a whim who were either second-hand or LEs only offered a certain skintone.

That said, I do like most skintones. What I buy usually depends on the character, to the extent of availabilty. I keep trying to find an RS or BBB doll to love so I can have awesome fantasy colors.

    12. I have dolls in a variety of colors over here... "normal", white, tanned, grey and even pale purple... but I'm definitely fondest of the plain old NS shades.

I'm not a big fan of the way white resin dolls turn yellow or green, tans also fade eventually and the "exotics" like my grey Bygg and purple Arkose are more difficult to dress and photograph... on top of the usual concerns about potential resin discoloration. o_O

So, all in all... I go with NS when it's an option. They're simply more likely to age in a way I can live with.

    13. Depends on the character. I have two normal skin, and one white skin. Alice is white skined due to her character, I think the paleness help to portray her dainty-ness and her life style (I hate to say 'sheltered' because she's certianly not, but she does stay indoors for most of the time)

    14. I tend to go for white skins first. It's true they turn ivory or yellow over time, but each company's resin ages differently so they still look different. After that, its a toss between tan and a peachy or yellow-.normal. The only color I don't like is pinkpinkpink. If I get one, because I couldn't resist the sculpt, I can't wait for some yellow tones to start mellowing it out.

As far as type of resin, I prefer opaque polyurethane. The waxworks look of French resin, or mixes with a lot of French resin in it, or a similar look like some of the environmental resin I've seen, just turns me off completely. For that reason, I prefer the "vivid" skintone Angelsdoll has over the Iplehouse skin tone.

    15. What I actually own depends on the character and so most of my dolls are normal skin, but personal preference is towards white skin and pale normal skin. I am just not fond of tans. Normal skin is your best bet for a skin tone that ages the least drastically.

I loathe French resin or any mix that involves French resin. The waxy look is a total turn off, as is its instability. I don't like the environmental resins that mimic French resins look either.

    16. My first doll is a normal, but I really want a coffee/chocolate/darker toned doll at some point, too. That tone is just the most gorgeous in my eyes, on dolls and humans.

    17. Of my dolls, my faaavorites are the ones that have yellowed, actually. :) They're two dolls I bought secondhand, they're each a good few years old, and sitting next to my brand-new NS dolls, they've got this lovely sort of sun-kissed look. :D As for straight-from-the-factory, though? Either Normal Pink or Yellow, depending on the doll. p: I have been trying to find a nice shade of minty green or a grey to bring home, though. <3

    18. I definitely prefer normal skin. I've tried getting different colors tan, rose skin, white and none of them have stayed very long. I keep trying though ha

    19. I've only had experience with normal skin and white skin so far, I find I like them both! Also had a home-tanned doll and loved that too! Maybe I'm just a "Love all skin tones" person but I feel like I'm much more attracted to tan dollies. All depends on the type of personality for the doll though!

    20. Tan--definitely tan. (Like Iplehouse's Light Brown in color.) In fact, I have a Peach/Gold doll on order from Iplehouse right now, and I'm in such a panic because I was temporarily out of my mind when I ordered the doll, and trying to force myself out of my tan obsession. LOL I fear I am seriously going to regret my decision. It sucks to have a new doll coming that you don't think you are going to like when you open the box. Should have stuck to the tan. Dang.

If I can't have tan, a color like Iplehouse's Real Skin, I can tolerate.

A pure white resin I would love and it would be a blank slate to me. I just fear that the resin would yellow, and then I'd hate the doll. If it stayed white white, I'd love it.
