Your dolls and their eyebrows

Apr 2, 2007

    1. I've always been intrigued by the BJD faces. The sculpt, the eye shape etc. But the thing i love looking at are the different types of eyebrows.

Personally, I prefer my BJD's to have very real looking eyebrows, the way people really have. (guys having MALE eyebrows, instead of the very stylized Manga-looking brows) My girls usually end up with very diva-esque Model-type eyebrows.

I've had some people say they don't like their dolls to have realistic eyebrows, and prefer the "pencil straight" sharp ones (much like-luts) or the very very angular brows.

      Which do you prefer?

    2. right now the boy's got really thin eyebrows but are painted on with each hair really nicely, so, its both but im looking to get it re-painted/airbrushed and thicker/real looking,,, however if i had a more "gothy" or "visual" looking doll i'd prefer it to be painted eyebrows :B

    3. awesome :) I personally have never really cared for the painted eyebrows. I love seeing them in watercolor pencils, or prisma. :)

    4. I have no idea what DOD uses for their eyebrows. But I swear I've spent hours just staring at natsuo's eyebrows x___x they're so crisp and realistic looking due to the crosshatching effect they used. I really want to try doing my own face-ups eventually but I'm definitely intimidated by eyebrows .-.

    5. Maebe has the pencil thin, manga variety, but I chose that because of her sculpt (msd hisui). The hisui/kohaku face is so stylized, I think it looks better with a more anime-like face-up rather than trying to go very subtle and realistic. With a different sculpt, I'd probably prefer something softer.

    6. on most ABJD I like them kind of natural, not too dark or long thin and pointy (but then I am not a fan of over plucked and penciled eyebrows on people as well)
If done wrong it really seems to draw away from how nice the rest of the face really is.

    7. I like crazy-arched stylized eyebrows the best.
But it really depends on the doll, and what suits him or her, I suppose. =)

    8. Here is Arachne, my Na-nu-ri head on a Lishe body.....I did her eyebrows more in the style of the 1940's villian :D VERY arched, and angled. :)

    9. I like nearly straight eyebrows, with just a slight curve.
n_n; But my boy only has one at the moment.

    10. I like fairly natural looks for any doll, so depending on the face, and on the wig, an eyebrow that looks like it "fits". I tend to shy away from brows that look too thin or sculpted. They can be pretty on other people's dolls, but none of mine are made-up enough for it to work.
None of mine are very arched, but none are quite as flat as some of the boy doll brows out there. Subtle natural arches are the norm in my doll family.

    11. I prefer thin eyebrows with a slight arch, nothing too dramatic, if they are gothic or something like that, if they are girly girls I prefer thin but natural looking, with separate hairs... but right now all I've got is a boy with a blank face

It depends on the mold too, for instance I like soah to have a natural look with realistic brows but CP dolls are a lot less realistic so I prefer to see a face up that is also less realistic. Both look great.

    12. I like expressive eyebrows, and arching ones but I do paint in the hairs to give a natural look.

    13. Eyebrows...I always seem to notice them! I like looking them. I prefer natural looking ones. I like my boys to have thicker more brooding looking brows and my girls to have finer softly arched ones.

    14. I like the realistic kind... I already get annoyed by women penciling their eyebrows as straight lines so it would be make sense that my dolls don't look that way.

    15. I like them natural and expressive. :3

    16. I like any eyebrows I didn't do myself.:vein

And why is this, you ask? (Play along with me for a second, even though I know you didn't ask.) I invariably get one just perfect, PERFECT for the doll in question... and the other turns into 1) a large smear; 2) a small smear; 3) a runaway freight train over which I can exercise no control whatsoever. :doh

I really love the feathered, natural looking brows some people do very well. I also really like the straight-edged, dramatically shaped brows that work so well with some molds. I really think it doesn't matter so much as long as they're done well.

(Which of course leaves me to say yes, of course, my first statement was a bit of a stretch. Because some eyebrows I didn't do myself are perfectly horrid. ;) )

    17. AMen to that its the only reason whyi haven't stripped the faceoff yet

      i just got a "cheaper" head to start painting/testing on ><;;
      arg

o and heres my boy's eyebrow from a side angel, u can't really see the separate strands but i guess for now its a shape reference T,T; damn camera!

    18. I like beautiful eyebrows- no hairy caterpillars or thread-thin ones. I allowed the artist to do whatever they want with my dolls' eyebrows, so each is different, but pretty in their own way.

    19. I love eyebrows like this ^__^

    20. *giggles*
uuummm... well... I have a thing for eyebrows. They're the most expressive thing on a dolls face, so I care a lot about how they look on my doll.
Hayden has very curved, arched eyebrows, which can look sweet and happy or angry... depending on the angle. They suit him. Thick, realistic eyebrows don't look so good on an El because he has a very feminine face.
BUT HAY. Moon is another story. Vin's eyebrows can block out the sun:
