1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Your dolls and you?

Sep 22, 2010

    1. This is just somthing i was curious about. I searched the forums and did not see this. If i'm repeating another thread tell me ><. I just wantt to know what dolls people tended to get more. and what made you decide wich ones you wanted and got. my current ones are Violeta Morphoa Beeta Clovera of DZ Fantasia from Impldoll and Saving up for coloara mlezzlir, Burrysa and Burrysa-sp. I made my decision's based on sculpt and wether it was one I wanted to put the time and effort into and to practice my sewing skills on somthing much smaller on cloths and other things.:) oh and what do your dolls mean to you? I would also be curious about any back stories. Just want to get to know people and their dolls.

    2. Well not to burst your bubble but there are a few threads about why you chose that particular sculpt!
But I think asking what a doll means to someone is nice!:)

I chose my first two dolls from the the amount of joy I felt just
      looking at their stock photos!:aheartbea

My first boy SD Ringdoll Pan, was my choice, after not finding any DOD SD's that I wanted.
It meant a lot to me, since I had known about ABJD for years and stalked the DOD website.

My second, Crobidoll Limited Mikhail, meant alot to me, since I never imagined I would ever find this doll new. Much less at all since the first version sold out in 2008.

My dolls are a representation of my dreams coming into fruition. I hope to have many many more to embody my character cast!:)

    3. Thats good ^^ gald your happy with your dolls. And I figured there was link some were about the sculpt but i thouht id ask just to be safe. I find DOA hard for me to navigate still. but im new i'm sure i'll get the hang of it

    4. What made me decide on my Tender Too & Bee-A was an article about an Anime convention at Malaysia and an there was this photo of Too & Bee-A that caught my attention. Because the name of the sculpt was not given at all in the article, it was tough for me to find (I had to jump from one website/forums to another).

Too & Bee-A might not be a popular sculpt, but the effort and mind set, that I want to get them because these two sculpt introduced to me that this hobby, made me love them so so much.

Now, I'm happy to have them around, because, I started to learn sewing, knitting, crafting for props and improve on my photography and drawing. And I love doing all those! :D

    5. The reason for both of my dolls actually has nothing to do with the BJD hobby.

My first doll was purchased after I lost someone close to me. I had no photos of them and as I had happened across BJDs before (through general anime fandom and DeviantArt website) I thought of seeing if I could find one with a resemblance to him. I did find one, I brought him and did my own face-up. I found that having that really helped with the whole grieving process.

As for my newest one (which should arrive in a day or two *squee!!*), I wanted soemthing to represent an aspect of my spirituality and although I draw, when I was browsing dolls (which I do cause they are pretty) I saw Feng by BBB and knew he would be perfect for what I wanted to create.

I will admit however that if I won the lottery I would indeed have many dolls for the reason of art and modification as I can think of loads of characters I would like to create but can't afford to buy them just for the sake of creativity (specially as I have other cheaper creative outlets).

    6. I go for mature looking sculpts, both for the body and head. Though while I like the Ipple House EIDs because of their mature look I don;t think a lot of BJD clothes would fit them. And while I will get myself a couple, for me anyway I find that they don't quite have what other BJDs have, perhaps because they do resemble normal dolls more (mind you I'm speaking from pictures, I haven't bought one myself yet).

As for the meaning... Eh, afraid I'm probably rather superficial, I mainly get them because I like collecting things that I find appealing/beautiful. I like being able to change their appearance, and last or all I'll make characters out of some.

    7. Thanks!
Yeah, I agree that DOA can be a bit hard to traverse,
      so don't worry about it.^_~

    8. I like the more realistic looking sculpts, overly anime features with the massive eyes and small mouth don't really appeal to me at all. My dolls are very special to me, because I have been nurturing their characters since I was 12, and they helped me through alot of touch times.

Many people say they feel terrible at not playing with their dolls, but personally, it doesn't matter to me, I just love looking at them and that's enough to make me happy. :)

    9. Well, as for my and my dolls, they are my "comfort foods":)! Instead of foods, it's my dolls that comfort me on a hard long bad day!
They chase my worry and blues away. And the best of all they are very good listener and don't talk back or give you bad advise! Ha ha

    10. Every one of my dolls are different, different styles and from all different companies. I got my first doll because of the anime look, and I still gravitate towards anime dolls for some reason. I'm not even into the anime fandom that much,so I can't explain why I like that type of sculpt. My Resinsoul Lan is the only realistic looking doll I have.
My first doll means a lot to me because when I got her,I was living in a horrible place and she was something precious and beautiful that helped me escape from that hellhole. All my dolls are means for me to escape from reality and create a fantasy world.

    11. My doll is just kind of a physical manifestation of all the things I like I think? To put it in a weird way. I don't know. I mean she has a personality but I can dress her up and mess around with styles and clothes while she still looks super pretty and whatnot. And I can play with her and stuff which makes me happy. Aaaaaah I'm so bad at answering this question! I tried. :?

    12. I make my decision to buy a doll based on their sculpts, without any makeup, so i can figure out whether it is really beautiful and suits his character she or he will be.
then, i will take the price and my financial statues into consideration.
if these are okay to me, then i may probably buy me a new doll~~

    13. With the exception of my first doll, all of mine are avatars of my pre-existing original characters. Three years ago, I chose my first doll based purely on his brand and how he looked. I simply liked the look of him. Of course, as much research as I'd done, I quickly realized I didn't know as much as I thought I did. My first doll was very special to me because he was my first and because I've learned a lot from him. The most important thing I learned from him is that SD is not my preferred size.

Generally speaking, my dolls are a way for me to extend my imagination and express my creativity. They're a healthy escape from the stress and pressure of every day life. It's fair to say that I 'play' with my dolls and that I thoroughly enjoy the experience of owning them, photographing them, making things for them and creating their ongoing stories.

More specifically, I can tell you that my boy Tyler is the one doll in my collection that has more meaning for me than the others. Like the majority of my dolls, Tyler was a character of mine that existed long before I ever got the doll. I was browsing online and when I saw Resinsoul Mai, my first reaction was "Oh, that's Tyler!" It was Mai's sweet, gentle face that sold me on that particular sculpt. So, now you're wondering why Tyler is my favourite? IRL, I have a severe degree of vision loss. Tyler is blind. Our disabilities are something we have in common. I love the challenge of photography and of capturing Tyler's perception of the world. Although it may sound strange, I also enjoy 'sharing the experience' of a visually impaired person's journey through the world. I identify with Tyler more than with my other dolls, probably because of this. In some ways, Tyler has evolved beyond the story into which he was born and has kind of taken on a 'life' of his own.

    14. My dolls are all the 'corporeal forms' of various characters of mine so they do mean a great deal to me. But it also has to be a doll that I love a lot and there have been many occasions that I made up characters to much a sculpt I absolutely needed to have. My first doll has to be one of the most special to this day, I found him by a literal accident after finally deciding on a girl doll I loved. I was going to buy her from a dealer on ebay and his picture just showed up in the suggestions. Needless to say I was had... I had not to that day looked at a doll and felt that kind of feeling of absolute love; the feeling that I absolutely needed to have them. At that time his company was still very small and there was no feedback about them at all but I didn't let it stop me.

One of my other dolls are equally special as he has one of the most well-developed characters I've created throughout my roleplaying "career" of thirteen years. His character and his development also mean a lot to me, specifically, as a person and his sculpt is a favorite of mine no matter what happens. I often say that if I had to sell all my dolls he'd be the one I would never part with. Then again there are many others that would hurt a lot to let go so I'd rather keep my family as it is.

      I could keep on going for each and every of them more or less but I suppose I can stop here. >v<;
