Your last doll

Nov 5, 2013

    1. Hi there lovely BJD people!

Today I'm curious about people whose collections are complete :) I've got some questions, although of course feel free to just respond with whatever you feel appropriate.

When and how did you decide your collection was complete?
How many dolls do you have?
Have you sold any along the way?
What was the last doll you bought? Why did you chose that one?
Are you on hiatus from buying new dolls for a few years or are you finished altogether?
Once all of your dolls are finished (If they aren't already) will you stay in the hobby?
Do you still feel involved in the hobby when you're not buying any new dolls?

Or for people whose collections are not yet complete:

Do you have a set number or criteria for when your collection is complete, or will it never be complete?
How many dolls do you have? How many do you want?
If you could only have one more doll what would it be?
Do you collect all the dolls first and finish their customizing later or stop after each new purchase to work on the doll?
Do you think you'll stay in the hobby once your collection is complete?

      Thanks for reading :aheartbea

    2. I doubt my collection will ever be complete, so I will answer the second set of questions.

Do you have a set number or criteria for when your collection is complete, or will it never be complete?
I have no real plan when it comes to BJDs, so I guess I will never have a "complete" collection.

How many dolls do you have? How many do you want?
Right now #12 should be on his way home soon. I also have a floating head I need to get a body for.
I do not have a set number of dolls that I want, but I do have plans of at least one more doll, and a bjd cat that is off topic. I could easily see me picking up more that catch my fancy along the way though.

If you could only have one more doll what would it be?
My dream doll sadly does not exist (a feral looking cat girl with large pawed feet and hands, a pronounced muzzle, ears more on the side of her head than the top). If I could find that, I would be content to have her as my final doll.

Do you collect all the dolls first and finish their customizing later or stop after each new purchase to work on the doll?
If I finish a doll before I find the next one I want to buy, then great, if now well, then I try to maintain focus on the older doll first. This has only come up when my tiny collection exploded .. and when it took me three years to get all the parts together for my Soom Ai.

Do you think you'll stay in the hobby once your collection is complete?
If I did ever find my collection complete, or find myself no longer able to buy more dolls, I think I would stay in the hobby. There are always other aspects of the hobby (sewing, faceups, photography) to keep me occupied.

    3. Do you have a set number or criteria for when your collection is complete, or will it never be complete?

I don't really think I would get more than 12, but you never know, plans change.

How many dolls do you have? How many do you want?

Right now I have three and a floating head with two others on layaway. I counted and I have 12 that I REALLY want, which included the three dolls and head I have now.

If you could only have one more doll what would it be?

Yikes! That's a hard one! I would choose either finish my floating head or get Souldoll Nino for a Roxas.

Do you collect all the dolls first and finish their customizing later or stop after each new purchase to work on the doll?

My first two dolls came with everything. My third girl I bought her head first, then her body wig and new eyes, then clothes. I try to get them everything I think they need when I get them.

Do you think you'll stay in the hobby once your collection is complete?

Of course! Just because you may finish your collection there's still so much to do in the hobby! Though I personally don't think that a collection can ever truly be finished. There's always new dolls and new characters that you can create.

    4. When and how did you decide your collection was complete?
This year in October when my last boy arrived, MNF Yder, Rayleigh

How many dolls do you have?
Will be 14 whole dolls once I'm done paying off Rayleigh's body from a friend

Have you sold any along the way?
I sold two, DOD DOT Calla & Luts KDF Darae

What was the last doll you bought? Why did you chose that one?
MNF Yder, I fell in love with Ravenwolf's Nuriel, otherwise, Bambi (Juri 2008) would have been my last as she was a grail I was finally able to obtain

Are you on hiatus from buying new dolls for a few years or are you finished altogether?
I consider myself finish altogether, the only exception to that rule for me is if Luts ever released a Corgi as a Zuzu Delf (which I already inquired about)

Once all of your dolls are finished (If they aren't already) will you stay in the hobby?
I will definitely stay in the hobby! It's more than just collecting them in my case, I like changing their wigs and eyes, etc. I also have a complex story that involves all of my dolls except one.

Do you still feel involved in the hobby when you're not buying any new dolls?
So-so, I do feel left out if I don't get new Zuzu's or when I didn't jump into getting tan FL dolls; thus, I've been sticking to Flickr a lot lately

    5. Do you have a set number or criteria for when your collection is complete, or will it never be complete?
I'm not aiming for a set number, and there will probably always be in and outs. I thought one particular girl was staying, for example, but she's just not working out even though I wanted one of this sculpt for some time.

How many dolls do you have? How many do you want?
      ... A lot? :D

Do you collect all the dolls first and finish their customizing later or stop after each new purchase to work on the doll?
I tend to buy as I see them and work on them as I go along. Right now I'm on a painting spree before my basement is ripped apart again, and I'm aiming to paint as many as possible before the contractor is ready to start. There's a few who aren't getting painted right now because they're just not ready (no eyes/wigs/whatever). Then I'll concentrate on sewing while the basement is being worked on.

      It switches back and forth.

    6. Do you have a set number or criteria for when your collection is complete, or will it never be complete?
Never! xD There are no criteria for completion, and I don't think it ever will be. Each and every doll belongs in a very elaborate universe that consists of five interconnected dolls and myriads of interconnecting stories that join and split along the separate story arcs. Even if some of these stories will eventually come to an end, others will always appear to take their place, bringing with them new characters and eventually more resin shells.

How many dolls do you have? How many do you want?
Ten full dolls, waiting on another five and eleven heads, waiting on one more. All in all I now have twenty seven dolls and am lusting after precisely three at this moment, my grail doll, one of my most important characters of all time and a yo-SD. In total there are approximately fifty more dolls in my wishlist right now, however.

If you could only have one more doll what would it be?
Most likely Rin, my Crobidoll Tei, even trumping my grail since he's just too important to me to pass up on.

Do you collect all the dolls first and finish their customizing later or stop after each new purchase to work on the doll?
I develop them all on the run. I don't really think of dolls as finished or unfinished. They aren't finished if I've got a pair of eyes that fit them, a wig and a set of clothes, far from as a matter of fact. I think "finishing" a doll once you get it somewhere you like and never touching it or doing anything with it again is just lousy.

Do you think you'll stay in the hobby once your collection is complete?
I don't think I'll ever leave the hobby no matter what happens. This hobby is so much more than simple collecting to me after all.

    7. When and how did you decide your collection was complete? and How many dolls do you have? I have 15 dolls right now and #16 is being manufactured. Around the time I was considering ordering her, I just sort o realized that she was the last specific doll I really wanted. Once she's hear I'll feel like my collection is complete, at least in terms of dolls I wanted/planned on buying. I always leave open the possibility that something new and awesome will pop up, or that I'll decide to reshell a character or something like that, but for now I think the phase where I buy new dolls to fit new characters is done.

Have you sold any along the way? No.

What was the last doll you bought? Why did you chose that one? Iplehouse EID Asa (the one I'm waiting for), because the first time I saw her I thought she was super pretty and I really wanted to buy her.

Are you on hiatus from buying new dolls for a few years or are you finished altogether? "On hiatus" might be the more accurate description, but it's more of an indefinite hiatus. Like I said above, I always leave open the possibility that something awesome will come along or that I'll want to reshell a doll.

Once all of your dolls are finished (If they aren't already) will you stay in the hobby? Yes.

Do you still feel involved in the hobby when you're not buying any new dolls? I don't feel like buying new dolls is required to be involved in the hobby. I have the dolls, I'm still in the hobby even if I don't buy more. I'll just shift my focus to things like making clothes and buying eyes and wigs.

    8. Do you have a set number or criteria for when your collection is complete, or will it never be complete?
It will never be complete. I always want more :)

How many dolls do you have? How many do you want?
At the moment i have 170 + 13 incoming. Again, i always want more so who knows how large the collection will grow.

If you could only have one more doll what would it be?
It will probably be a Pipos as they are my favorite company.

Do you collect all the dolls first and finish their customizing later or stop after each new purchase to work on the doll?
I haven't even started to customize any so i guess later then. No time to really play right now. I get my high from the acquiring :)

Do you think you'll stay in the hobby once your collection is complete?
Don't know about the future as i'm still collecting. I have been known to sell off old collections to support new ones. If i ever do stop it's usually because of something new.

    9. Do you have a set number or criteria for when your collection is complete, or will it never be complete?

not a set number exactly but I have very limited funds for everything (even more so for things that aren't absolutely necessary like hobby stuff), as for set criteria, yes, every doll I buy has to be one that I absolutely love
I'm not sure if my collection will ever be complete, I hope so

How many dolls do you have? How many do you want?
I have one doll at the moment. I'd like to have maybe 6, not too many.

If you could only have one more doll what would it be?

      that's a hard question
I think that if it had to be a currently existing doll I'd have to go with VOLKS Tsunenage Hasekura on an SD17 body or an oldskin F-01
if it could be from my imagination maybe a purple VOLKS F-01 on a DollChateau body

Do you collect all the dolls first and finish their customizing later or stop after each new purchase to work on the doll?
I don't have a second doll yet but if I did I'd definitely have gotten my first one settled in with a decent amount of stuff before buying the next one.

Do you think you'll stay in the hobby once your collection is complete?
of course, there's so much more to do in this hobby than buying dolls

    10. Do you have a set number or criteria for when your collection is complete, or will it never be complete?
I highly doubt my collection will ever be complete.

How many dolls do you have? How many do you want?
I have... three SD size dolls, one Little Gem, and two teenie gems. I want... at least two or three more big dolls, and possibly another Little Gem. Probably more, but I forced myself to promise I wouldn't add any more dolls to my wish list until it gets down to two, and I have more characters I want dolls for than are currently on my wish list, because I haven't found sculpts for them yet.

If you could only have one more doll what would it be?
Definitely a Soom Vesuvia in bronze resin with all fantasy parts (not human body). My concept for her in my head is too strong to just let her go.

Do you collect all the dolls first and finish their customizing later or stop after each new purchase to work on the doll?
I suppose I probably finish their customizing later. My available time to work on customizing my dolls does not always coincide with when I actually get them, so sometimes I have several arrive before I can start working on one. When I have time to work on them, I do. I don't want to not order a limited doll that fits a character I want just because I have other dolls that don't have one finished outfit yet.

Do you think you'll stay in the hobby once your collection is complete?
I will definitely stay in the hobby if I ever feel that my collection is complete. Of course, I also don't feel that my collection will ever be complete. Even if I ever finish collecting dolls for all of the main characters in my story, there will still be sculpts to love. Even if my collection ever does become complete, I love designing new outfits for my dolls. That will never end.

    11. I currently have 33 dolls, and I'm not sure if my collection is complete. I buy a doll when I see one I just have to have, and that's not very predictable. I've been in the hobby since 2004, and my purchasing has slowed down a lot, so this could mean my collection is nearly complete. However, with new dolls coming out all the time, it's hard to say.

Customization is an ongoing process, and I don't consider any of my dolls to be absolutely complete, because I'm always coming up with new ideas about how they should look and what clothes they should wear.

I doubt I'll ever leave the hobby completely, but the amount of time I spend with my dolls ebbs and flows. I have a demanding job, and I have other hobbies that take up my time.

    12. Do you have a set number or criteria for when your collection is complete, or will it never be complete?
I'm another of those "will probably never be complete, really"-people. I don't have any particular set number in mind or anything like a list of sculpts that I absolutely have to have. If my collection some day ends, it'll be in the same way that it began and has grown... very organically.

How many dolls do you have? How many do you want?
I've always said that I had "Too many!", even when there were only two of them.
If you're really curious about what I have in my current collection, though, the crew are all listed on my profile page. There are something in the neighborhood of a hundred of them now, but I don't keep a careful count since I periodically 'thin the herd' and have a few for sale, or have someone in-transit, or one on-order or some other circumstance that keeps the total in flux.

Ideally, I really ought to have at least a few less than I currently do... Mostly for reasons of space, since a couple of my cabinets are looking a little more cluttered than I like these days.

If you could only have one more doll what would it be?
There actually isn't anything I want at the moment. I'm pretty happy with the contents of my crew as they are.

Do you collect all the dolls first and finish their customizing later or stop after each new purchase to work on the doll?
I try to finish them as I get them, but a few are still in need of face-ups at this point. I've simply been waffling over who I want to send them to.

Do you think you'll stay in the hobby once your collection is complete?
Maybe. Even if I stop buying dolls, I doubt I'll ever stop being an eye fiend and you can never really have too many outfits or itty-bitty pairs of shoes.

    13. Do you have a set number or criteria for when your collection is complete, or will it never be complete?
9 is my limit. Any more than that and feel so overwhelmed. Otherwise I think it's just a matter of doing what makes me happy which probably means my collection will always be changing.
How many dolls do you have? How many do you want?
I have 2 now. Want? That changes every single day haha! Ideally I'd like my 3 little ones and 4 MSD for a total of 7 dollies
If you could only have one more doll what would it be?
Minifee Chloe or Minifee Celine. Easy.
Do you collect all the dolls first and finish their customizing later or stop after each new purchase to work on the doll?
I buy a doll and work on them a little and then get another and work on that one a little. I tend to think a doll is never truly finished. Just like people my dolls are always changing.
Do you think you'll stay in the hobby once your collection is complete?
Of course! What's the point in putting in all the work if I can't sit back and enjoy it?

    14. I highly doubt my collection will ever be complete, so:

Do you have a set number or criteria for when your collection is complete, or will it never be complete?
I want ALLLLL the dolls! lol just kidding, I don't have a set number; the characters in my head's families just keep growing. @_@
How many dolls do you have? How many do you want?
      I currently own 33 (not including dolls I'm selling) and I'm waiting/saving for 11 :X
If you could only have one more doll what would it be?
      Ouch. Ummm, probably Angell-Studio Zhen.
Do you collect all the dolls first and finish their customizing later or stop after each new purchase to work on the doll?
      A little bit of both. It depends, really. I go back and forth between doll families ^^;
Do you think you'll stay in the hobby once your collection is complete?
Absolutely. I couldn't see myself leaving this hobby <3

    15. Do you have a set number or criteria for when your collection is complete, or will it never be complete?
No set number for me! I've got two main and three secondary "families;" the two main ones come from a very large world where, hypothetically, I could continue adding dolls to them endlessly. Of the three secondary ones, one's a "chibi" version of one of the main ones, so has a similar flexibility, one's a much smaller group that may or may not get anything else added in, and one is the miscellaneous dolls that don't fit with the other families and have formed their own--so that's terribly easy to add into!

How many dolls do you have? How many do you want?
Right now I have 13 home, with 3 on order, and plenty more planned. Originally I wanted one, but I've found that I've enjoyed them more with the larger family and range of sizes (Puki to MSD, hopefully to 50cm in the future).

If you could only have one more doll what would it be?
I doubt I could make that choice, there's too many so far on my list!

Do you collect all the dolls first and finish their customizing later or stop after each new purchase to work on the doll?
A little of both. Some I customize as soon as they show up or shortly afterward (my newest arrival is due to go under the knife, so to speak, as soon as I finish the girl who was already starting to get work done before he arrived, but she's been with me for several years and is only finally getting her work done). With the older ones, some went in right away, some waited for a while, and because of the amount of work in parts, some are still waiting. It kind of depends on what they need done to them.

Do you think you'll stay in the hobby once your collection is complete?
I don't think my collection will ever be complete! I may take breaks again like I have in the past, but there's so many elements of the hobby I enjoy, I don't see myself leaving any time soon.

    16. Do you have a set number or criteria for when your collection is complete, or will it never be complete?
This is an evolving hobby, in my opinion. Dolls come and go, new dolls come out, old dolls get discontinued and become rarer and harder to find...and with all that, my wants and wishes tend to evolve too. Plus, I don't consider myself in the doll hobby as a "collector" as much as I consider myself an "enthusiast". To me, the idea of a collection implies that it can be completed at some future point and then remains static from that point onward. So, I guess my answer to the question is no, I don't think I am aiming for a "complete collection" of dolls.

How many dolls do you have? How many do you want?
Currently I have 22, but I have three incoming and three others are looking for new homes. I would like to keep the number around 25.

If you could only have one more doll what would it be?
I'm not sure exactly how this is relevant to the topic of whether "the collection is complete" or not, but if I could only have one more it would be Dollmore Model F Ipsae Monohan. :aheartbea

Do you collect all the dolls first and finish their customizing later or stop after each new purchase to work on the doll?
It depends. Sometimes I work on them till they're done before getting another one, and sometimes I don't.

Do you think you'll stay in the hobby once your collection is complete?
See my answer to the first question about the "completeness of the collection" ^^
And yes, I would stay in the hobby.

    17. Do you have a set number or criteria for when your collection is complete, or will it never be complete?
You know, 15 dolls ago, I said I would stop, but, well...that didn't work out. I want to say after I get these certain dolls, my collection will be complete. That, or I get all the brands of doll that I want but not yet have, I've been on a quest to have a most diverse doll family. But again, we'll see.

How many dolls do you have? How many do you want?
Right now, I have 34...yikes. There's 3 more I want and plan to buy, and I reallllyyy don't want to go over 37. There are 3 or 4 others that I want but are extremely low priority and one is rather hard to find now. The only way I'd buy these is if I found them somewhere on sale for really cheap, or they were given to me as gifts.

If you could only have one more doll what would it be?
An IOS Lacrimosa, I've always wanted an 80cm doll and he's second in line of the 3 final dolls I want.

Do you collect all the dolls first and finish their customizing later or stop after each new purchase to work on the doll?
Nine times out of ten, the doll is ready and completed the day they come home. Even though I usually have a short wait time, I spend those days ordering and making clothes, wigs, and shoes, so all I have to do when the doll arrives is give it a faceup. There's only been 2 instances in which the doll wasn't immediately ready for play, and that was when the dolls arrived early and both their wigs hadn't come in yet. So far, I've never had to worry about completing an older doll before buying a new one.

Do you think you'll stay in the hobby once your collection is complete?
Of course I will! Awhile back when I 'thought' I was finished buying dolls, I explored other avenues of the hobby, like building dioramas and photography and I would do so again. Photography practice anyone?

    18. Thanks for your responses! :) They're really interesting.

Please see the title, 'your last doll'. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the original post what sets the topic? Contradictions going on in my brain at the mo  Sorry if there isn't continuity, I didn't know it could only be one topic at a time <3

    19. Do you have a set number or criteria for when your collection is complete, or will it never be complete?
I don't really have a planned number, but I do want a male for every female MSD/SD I own (so, four males), or I might keep going with females. It really depends on who I see that I really fall hard for.

How many dolls do you have? How many do you want?
I currently have four, one Tiny, one Yo-SD, two MSD, and two SD's on the way. I do want a few more (as stated in the first answer)

If you could only have one more doll what would it be?
I'm really wanting a Minifee Chloe, or any IpleHouse sculpt, but they have to wait.

Do you collect all the dolls first and finish their customizing later or stop after each new purchase to work on the doll?
I work on each doll, or I try to work on each doll. At the moment there are two that don't sit right for me, but I'm hoping new wigs might help with that.

Do you think you'll stay in the hobby once your collection is complete?
I probably will stay in the hobby once I've collected all that I want to collect, but until then, I'm having fun researching new dolls.

    20. Do you have a set number or criteria for when your collection is complete, or will it never be complete? I really only have plans for two more. Both boys need their bodies. I suppose it's possible that I'll shell out other characters later but I really haven't put much thought into it.

How many dolls do you have? How many do you want? I currently have 6 at home with one floating head. I've got another on the way along with yet another floating head. So I guess my plan is for 9.

If you could only have one more doll what would it be? I would finish off my last vampire character, Gabriel. He's the one I want to shell the most.

Do you collect all the dolls first and finish their customizing later or stop after each new purchase to work on the doll? I buy them, customize, and then buy a new one. The only exception is my one floating head which I bought right away because he was limited. He needs to be dyed blue but I'm waiting to buy the body so I can do it all at once.

Do you think you'll stay in the hobby once your collection is complete? Absolutely. I really enjoy taking photos of my dolls and I'd imagine I'll give them new faceups and continue to buy new clothes well into the future.
