Your old dolls, the Sages of the Dolliverse.

Jul 24, 2014

    1. Hey everyone!

I haven't seen something like this posted already, and I'm really interested to get to know about your old doll(s), your first doll(s), the ones who have been through it all since you started getting into the hobby :-)

I understand DoA has been around since 2005(?), and a lot of people mention still owning their first dolls, and I find that so sweet! So tell me about them, when you got them, how you managed to buy them and just a brief summary of how you have spent your time together, and how they looked like before and what they look like today! Has time left its yellow marks on their beautiful resin, do they still stand stiff and tall?

Even if you don't acquire them anymore, share your story! Pictures are always best ^^

    2. DoA has been around since 2004, as Cynthia's and my Joined Date under our icons show. :)

I've probably posted in just about all the threads Cynthia in FlintHills lists.

I still have my first-- a CP Delf Elf EL, purchased from CP through Liria (Luts also sold some of the first Elf Els--but only ns and mine is ws). Liria was the English-speaking agent who worked directly with Cerberus Project in those days. She went on to work for Fairyland.

There was no international Paypal then and even credit cards were not often accepted, so we had to do Bank Transfers. No layaways then, either. There were only a few companies and Volks was definitely the big guys on the block. There were almost no English websites. No such thing as Tinies! Only 60cm and 45cm. And not many of either of those. It really was almost like being in the Dark Ages of BJDs!

My Elf El, Elurin, immediate went with me to meetups. He's been in doll magazine photos. People have told me they saw photos of him and then went on to look into BJDs. It's been a great time.

He's yellowed a bit, but it could be mostly the MSC. (the heads seem to yellow more than the bodies, which makes me think it's the MSC--and there was no MSC UV-Cut available at that time!) The yellowing is fine--he mostly look like he's more NS than WS sometimes--but that's it. He still has his original faceup. He also still has his original string! I just have tied a tighter knot in it and he's pretty much OK.

He's always changed greatly, from day one, depending on how I'm dressing him up.

If you'd like to see photos, I have a page of them up here:
      Viresse's Haven--Elurin

My CP Elf Lishe is about the same age (from 2004). I have a LOT more dolls now, but I still have my oldest, and I love them. :D

Oh, here, piccie (wearing Forest of Avalon wings and Azurielle cloat)--

    3. My first doll is a 2013 Kid Delf Yuz. ; u ;
I'm very new to the hobby. It's not the oldest doll that I have though.
My Ringdoll Andrew is a few years old, I think.
I love them all so much that I can't imagine getting rid of/selling/ect. any of them, you know?

    4. Like April, I love getting to talk about my dolls & probably have posted in many of the threads Cynthia mentioned. :)
Unlike April, I didn't discover BJDs until 2008. SO I'm some where in between the ancient members & the newbies. X0
My first doll was a Dollinian made in 2007 or 2008. She's evolved quite a bit from her original simple faceup to the character she has now. And along the way she encouraged me to add her husband & her son...:D

As to my oldest dolls, they would be a couple of Volks girls from 2004/2005 & my Delf horde most of them being from 2005 & there about. Being on a tight budget means I've kept an eye out for second hand dolls which is where all of my oldest dolls have come from. They may have yellowed some, or greened in the case of the ws resins...but I love them all just the way they are. Maybe more so because I didn't know them when they were fresh resin of a different shade. ;)

    5. My first doll was an AoD Chen, he was made in 2007, but I got him in early 2008, from JunkySpot. He had been in stock for awhile. I still have him, he's yellowed with several scratched and damage, but I don't care. He was my first! Strangely, however, he was strung so well that he's never been unstrung and still poses as well as the day I got him.

My oldest doll is Cian, he's a Volks KoTenshi Tsubaki, and while I got him secondhand, according to research and his headplate markings, he was probably made in 2004, which makes him 10 years old (even though his character is only 6!) he's certainly yellowed, and has none of his original paperwork or fullset pieces, and just looking at his design is clearly an ol;d doll, no fancy posing, no double joints, no amazing sculpted details, but I love him anyway. :)

    6. lessee, when did I join?? good heavens, August of 2004. Hey it's almost my 10th anniversary!!!!!!

A lot of my dolls are pretty old. Since this isn't a gallery thread I'll just post one...JENNA. Jenna is a modified Choa by Cindy Gay. She was Cindy's personal doll for a long time, and I always thought she was just the most beautiful thing on the planet. Cindy decided it was time for Jenna to have a new home and I was lucky enough to get her. It was 5/31/2005 when she arrived into my hands.

And today, she is every bit as beautiful as she was then. Honestly, if she's yellowed, it's mellow and I don't see it.

I still have my first dolls... Jeremiah Blue, my FIRST doll, a blue fairy jerome GIRL. Memphis, a sexpot of a stunning Iz head on a Luts body. Elijah Belle, the best 4 sisters ever, on an sd13 body. Libertine, another sexpot of a gorgeous thing, a modded Dreaming Lishe by Cindy's sister, the also amazing Cristy Stone.

    7. My first was a Dream of Doll Homme Ducan. I got him in 2007 after agonizing for a year whether I could get a BJD...
He's old...and yellowed quite a bit...and his joints suck tbh (he was never a good poser) but he's still here :D he currently lives with my mum and her SDF girl as my tastes changed but I don't think I could ever sell him...

    8. My oldest BJD is my Angel Region Dana (I think from 2008?) However I have a hard time considering ANY of my resin dolls old (or any period) since I guess the oldest would be from 1998? When Volks started selling them. I have my grandmother's babydoll, & a Haitian voudon protection doll from the 1930s - those are old. I am very interested in seeing how resin dolls age tho :D

    9. Oldest doll.......Uhm I guess I have a couple of ways to look at that
Longest I've had with me is my MNF Woosoo, I got him in 09. He's not yellowed as such, more mellowed out to a creamy colour instead of being paper white. I've only just got his faceup redone, changed his look and such, but he's still got the original string and that tell tale Fairyland kick.

The oldest would be my 05 Breakaway. No yellowing as I was lucky enough to find a seller that hadn't taken the head out at all, infact the faceup he has now is the only one he's ever had :)

I joined in 09, so the ones I liked had long since stopped being sold on the sites, fortunately the two I loved most I've managed to find on here.

    10. My oldest doll is Nagito! .u. a Dollfie Dream DDH-02 head from 2004 that is currently in line waiting to receive his Obitsu 50cm boy body x3; I feel a little sad to have him floating, but I promised that I'd see to it sooner than later.

    11. My oldest and first BJD is Dollstown Seola on the 7Y body. I bought her directly from Dollstown with faceup (they have since discontinued offering faceups). I still have her and I am as in love with her today as I was from the first day I saw her. She has had a new faceup, and has yellowed somewhat, but but she is still my best girl. She got me hooked on Dollstown dolls, and I have gotten a few others since.

    12. My oldest dolls are my Soom Amber and Heliot, they were both made in 2009 but I received them secondhand as I did not discover BJDs until 2010. Amber arrived to me in July of 2011, and was the first doll I'd ever held or seen in person. I pieced together my Heliot over the course of two years, and he's very special to me. They probably have yellowed a bit, but I love them so much and still have them. Here's one of the most recent pictures of my Heliot :aheartbea He had a pink and black faceup when I purchased him from his previous owner, but I wanted to pay homage to his default set a bit, yet still make him unique. AngelToast painted his faceup in a night sky theme:

    13. I still have my first doll, too! Bought him in october 2005, which means he is almost 9 years old..gosh, that's old! He yellowed, but he was one of those CP 'Beauty yellow' dolls to begin with, so it doesn't bother me too much. Other than that, he's still in good shape, no scratches, broken fingers, or anything like that ;) Also, he is still my favorite doll! I adore my other, newer dolls too, but there is something special about your first doll, and I still love the Chiwoo mold so he was the right choice for me.

Here's a picture of Vasy, my CP Chiwoo <3

    14. The first doll I bought was an IH SooRi in early 2006. I didn't keep him though, when I discovered that White Skin wasn't for me. Pretty soon after, I bought my oldest doll of the crew, a SwD Lucas, made in 2003. This boy is 11 years old now and although he has mellowed, Volks pureskin turns into a beautiful cream colour.

He's still in perfect condition and together with my Williams, he's my favorite of the bunch :).

    15. He's not my first doll, but he's the doll I've owned the longest. I received Natsume for Christmas in 2005, so he'll be 9 this year.

What he looked like way back when

      What he looks like now.

He's honestly only become even more beautiful to me over time, and he's not yellowed at all.

    16. I did not expect any replies to this thread after Cynthia's links, I thought it would just drown in the older posts but I was wrong xD

Really interesting stories you got there guys! Makes me wish I was able to get one way back in 2008, when I actually discovered BJDs, but hey I was thirteen and had no source of income lol! I'm a little angry at my parents though

Reading the posts got me thinking about future doll collectors and what they'd think about our dolls today. I'm talking like 20-30 years later, would they seem like the "antique"-looking Bisque dolls we have today? Those I used to like, but now they're just plain creepy to me, and BJDs have a much better and wider choice of customisation with resin instead of bisque or porcelain.
