Being on time isn’t very important. ‘They’ll wait if they think you’re worth waiting for’ – that’s his motto, and he’s always found it to be true.

He’s not the only one to feel that way. Half the dolls he’s met confided that they arrived much later than expected. ‘It builds anticipation,’ said one. ‘There were four panicked emails asking about me before I finally shipped,’ bragged another.

He knew what happened to dolls who shipped early: they had to wait around bald and naked until their things arrived. Well, he wouldn’t stand for such indignities, so he made sure to arrive at the proper dollish time – late.

He was surprised then to be given an outfit that was inspired by the time-obsessed white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland. Was Dezarii trying to make some kind of subtle commentary?

But no, he reasoned, she’s gullible just like all those other doll collectors. They’ll believe any excuse for a shipping delay: holiday schedules, plague, humid weather, resin weevil infestations, you name it. And they were always scurrying to be on time themselves! He felt glad to be a doll with a more sensible perspective.
