Afuhi is the Itsumade bird - a strange bird who once sat upon a temple and called out "itsumade, itsumade" to scare the villagers. He was shot down by a famous hunter, and left crippled by the arrow wound.

He spent the next few hundred years sulking in the forest, healing and stewing in his own self-pity. The only reason he ever emerged was because he met a tree spirit who convinced him to stop moping and revitalize himself. Now, he follows the little kodama around Tokyo and spends a lot of time being critical of modern society. He's afraid of smart phones, and one time he tried to learn how to play video game, but he almost passed out.
