He came into the capital city in order to become a soldier. However, due to poor fitness, he wasn’t cut out for that life so moved into the world of law. Through a very fortuitous death that had looked like an accident, he managed to secure an interview and an apprenticeship in the higher courts with a judge. He served there for five years before his mentor was called to be an advisor in the palace and he followed. At first, he was honest, kind, and hardworking, but as his mentor’s age continued to climb, more and more of the work was shunted to him until he was practically doing the nearly senile man’s job and just feeding him lines to give to the king. Temptation was too great to resist and he took to studying alchemy in private, creating poisons to advance his mentor’s senility. He could move the man as he liked. After a few years, he had the country moving to his tune while playing the part of the advisor’s assistant. However, his arrogance caught up to him and he began to drive some of his mentor’s funds toward himself, amassing a small fortune, along with starting a war with a neighboring country. It was a banker and a captian who found his alchemy work and money derivation. They brought it before the king who would have had him executed if not for his mentor, who stepped in to reduce the sentence, much to the shock of everyone assembled. He was spiritually chained to the captain and forced to accompany him.
