He doesn't understand why Spiteful is sometimes kind to him because Spiteful has always incessantly harangued him. They are not friends, not really, though they know each other just well enough to be. He thinks he knows, anyway, but Spite has always been just that little bit more mysterious. He tries to draw out that side when he can, but mostly, he can't, and ends up suffering.

Just because he lets Spiteful bully him doesn't mean he's a pushover. He doesn't remember a thing about the previous life they had together, but some feelings remain, he thinks.
