The unofficial handyman of the Red Octopus, Axl spends his days tinkering in his starship's workshop, hoping to be the mastermind behind the universe's next great invention. At the age of eight he created his first robotic probe, only to lose his left arm in a soldering malfunction days later and subsequently put his dreams on hold.

Years passed and Axl refused to touch the tool that had harmed him, but after his childhood friend was abducted by bounty hunters, he returned to his blueprints and assembled the E.L.M.O.---an android who's sole purpose is to remind his creator to smile.
