ᛞ The Fairest Life is Led by Those Who Are Deft at All They Do ᛞ​

Dagný Vígþorndóttir is a young woman living in Norway during the tenth century. Her home is in Hardangerfjord in Hordaland, a place of imposing cliffs and deep waters. While the men of her community go raiding, Dagný and the women of her village are occupied with the daily running of the homestead: growing and preserving food, tending to animals and children, making cloth and tools. Though she dreams of the far-away wonders of Miklagard to the east and Paris to the south, she has her feet solidly on the ground. She focuses on her work, and is considered the best weaver in the village. She spends most of her time spinning, weaving, dyeing cloth, and tending to her family's animals. She is learning her family's herding calls, to summon the cows down from the high pastures.

Her favourite colours are blue, from woad plants, and red, from madder roots. Her most precious possession is an amber necklace her father gave her from his journeys in Sweden.

Dagný's clothing is styled after the dress of tenth century Norwegian women. All of her clothes are handmade, and due to my own limitations there are areas where the accuracy is lacking. Her blue glass necklace was a gift and purchased online.

Dagný was born from my love of Vikings and Norse history, and especially material culture. Her character came about because I was so tired of the common plots in Viking historical fiction, and I wanted to make a character who would be the opposite of everything I disliked about them.

The main themes of her plot is Norse domestic life, the magic of everyday things, and acceptance.
