Provenance:

A birthday gift from my mom! I told her about my interest in BJDs, and I already had my little YoSD dubbed 'baby' Elaine, so she knew I would take good care of her. So, for my eighteenth birthday, my mom presented me with my new doll :D

Reason for choice:

I chose this specific sculpt and fac e mold because it resembled my smaller doll, and they're meant to be a younger and older version of one another. I like the stylization of Luts's girl faces (though usually I gravitate to more anime-like dolls) and thought the Ruby sculpt was just beautiful in general. So, I sent my mom a link to the site and gave her a wink.

Best Points:

I've had her for a long time and she's not yellowed at all! This could be a testament to me taking good care of her, but honestly it also shows that the resin Luts uses is quality. Her sculpt is elegant and reminds of me a rennaissance sculpture in how her body and especially her dainty little hands are built. The company faceup is also really pretty.

Worst Points:

Honestly, maybe I view her through rose-tinted glasses because I love her so much, but while not perfect, I find it hard to identify a particular flaw.

Name story:

Elaine is a name which means pure or innocent, which while fitting for my character, is not the reason why I chose her name. She's named Elaine after the character from Arthurian legend, Elaine of Astolat (aka the Lady of Shallott) upon whom her character is based. I tend to create characters first, and then find a doll to shell them, rather than the other way around.

Elaine is a character who exists in my mind as an extension of myself, but to be brief, I'll talk about the original tale which started it all; the story of Elaine of Astolat. She's a medieval maiden who lives at Camelot with the Knights of the Round Table, including her husband Sir Lancelot (whom she was betrothed to when he rescued her from a pack of wolves in the forest). She and Lancelot aren't really in love, though there was a time she felt that way about him. She moved on pretty quick when she figured out that he was into Guinevere. She redirected her pursuit of his affections to a pursuit of knighthood, and eventually found love with Sir Gawain instead.

In my more modern storylines, Elaine is just your average college student studying history (like yours truly). She's kind and gentle, if a bit introverted. She likes to write stories and draw in her free time, and loves j-fashion. She's also a ballerina!
