  • Name story:
Gabriel has certain aspects to his character that reference angels or an angelic nature. Gabriel, the messenger angel, seemed like a correct choice to play on Gabe’s chosen path as a musician. Musicians are a specialized sort of messenger that announces their thoughts in song.

From the beginning, Gabriel was born for music. His papá could play in the bright, acoustic style of his home in Guadalajara, and he sang his immigrant song to his son (never mind if Gabe hadn’t figured out he was a son and not a daughter just yet). Gabe was barely six when he learned his first chords, and ravenously devoured all he could, spanning genres from his papá’s Mexican folk tunes to progressive and punk and whatever he could sing. Music was his constant through transition, and his strength for his story to be told and sung.

He met Mercy in college, and her superior guitar skills would’ve been infuriating if she hadn’t been so polite. She was an unusual girl, and her distracted gaze made the hair on Gabe’s neck stand up. There was a reason for it: she possessed a bit of magick, just as he did too.

She could see past the veil of the living, and he could sense the powers of others not unlike a bloodhound. There was relief in knowing that they were not alone in the Underground, but like gravity, sources of magick attract unnatural phenomena. Mercy and Gabe survived college together and formed a small music act together with the intent of forming a band. They became the founding members of Lulla-Bye, unaware of the magnitude of their gravitational pull on the strange and unusual.
