Born the first son of the head of the Yayoi Clan, Iijima was brought up by his father to be his successor and leader of their family. But because of the way his father tried to control him, Iijima ran away with his first love, Kirihiko. They were very happy together, until Iijima thought Kirihiko betrayed him and killed him in a fit of rage.

Iijima then changed himself completely, dressing as a woman and going by the name Yayoi. She grew to love the new persona she had adopted and saw it as her 'true self'.

She was very happy and became part of a community where she was well respected until she started realizing she was not ageing or getting hurt. When she finally came to understand that she was immortal, she distanced herself from everyone she loved.

From then on, she would start anew over and over but only for short periods of time, never staying with anyone for too long; both out of fear of being rejected for the powers she herself could not control, but also because she could not bare seeing the people she loves die and leave her.
