Jane is the ex-wife of Carol Cole. Unlike Carol, Jane does not have the timeshifter ability, which made it possible for Carol to leave her alone for long periods of time and have his adventures behind her back. Jane comes from a rather poor family, so she quickly grew attached to the lush life Carol was able to provide. She and Carol grew up in the same town, but it became clear to Jane during their teenage years that Carol had something strange about him. Jane was the first one Carol told about his secret in addition to his own brother. Jane was fascinated by Carol's lifestyle and ability, and a bit also by the fact that Carol learned to make something she had never had plenty of: money. Jane is the only one in addition to Theodore who ever got close to Carol and knows him.

Carol turned to crime early on in his life. When Jane got pregnant with their child at 16, Carol protected her from being involved and always sought a safe place for his beloved one to hide in safety even if Carol's crimes would set them in great danger at times. Jane got used to being alone a lot, Carol got involved with more serious criminal gangs and offences, and what he did was not about small robberies anymore, but those resulting to deaths of people. To Jane it was clear that their child needed to have a better start in life than them. She did not want their daughter to know the truth of Carol and the like. Much of their early days as a family were spent moving to a new place after a bigger score. When they were in their early twenties, they found a safe place at Father Theodore Rosatti's church and started hiding there whenever they had the need to.

Unbeknownst to Jane, Carol soon started a sexual affair with Theodore, and perhaps it was Theodore's position and Carol's irregular whereabouts that allowed it to continue unnoticed for years. Theodore even married Carol and Jane in front of God, something any priest prior had refused to do. Soon after the wedding Jane walked in on Theodore being intimate with her husband. Shocked, she left without ever confronting Carol. She only left him with a letter and her wedding ring. She had nothing more to ask or say. That moment staring at his husband in their marriage bed under another man, Jane realized that the meaning of the long looks and exceptionally friendly touches Carol and Theodore shared had never been friendship.

Jane left with no safe place to go, and her thoughts were a mess. She could only be grateful that due to Carol's safety measures, few knew she had been Carol's wife, so she shouldn't need to worry about bounty hunters who were after Carol. Where the road takes her next is not clear, but she thinks Carol would deserve to feel the consequences of his actions, and Theodore too. She knows that somewhere, Theodore has a fellow priest called Tate Heilig who would likely be very interested in the secrets Jane could spill. Though Jane was mostly kept away from Carol's business, she still lived under the same roof and was neither deaf or ignorant, so she knew that there exists an organization called The Holy Alliance that would pay hefty sum for a tip leading them to Carol. Likewise, she knew that Theodore had warned Carol that father Heilig was to be especially avoided because he had something to do with this alliance.
