Name story:

When I was in my senior year of high school, I went to the BJD panel at an anime convention to admire all the dollies I wouldn't be able to afford for a couple years. There was one person there, a gal from Iowa named Kathy Jessen, who had brought along a doll that she needed to sell for college costs. She didn't reeeally wanna sell a doll, but this one was second hand, with a faceup she didn't do and a couple stains from an old tattoo that she'd removed. A white skin Island Doll Lilith.

I knew it was a long shot, but I decided to ask her if she would consider letting me - a high school student she had never met, with no references, from a different state - do a payment plan via check in the mail whenever the hell I scrounged up enough money because oh yeah I was also unemployed!

I saved up fifty dollars at a time, passed the cash to my mother, and asked her to mail a check for my payment. At one point, my mother added a note with the check. She got Kathy to contact her and set up a deal behind my back. My mother paid of the doll and set my money aside. Kathy pretended to continue receiving my payments while my mother pretended to continue sending them.

The day of my graduation party, there was a big box on the table waiting for me. It was the doll, and an envelope of the payments that didn't get mailed. I named her Jess in honor of the kind person willing to work with me in the first place.
