Maria de Lourdes Rovira y Castillo was born in Madrid in 1851. Coming from a well to do family, she was a quiet and studious young woman who cared deeply about people and nature.

Intelligent and inquisitive, she was none the less a very dutiful and obedient daughter to her parents. Never doing anything wrong or out of line, all those things came naturally to her. That was, until she fell in love for the first time.

She fell in love with one of her best friends, the daughter of the local magistrate. She did not understand there to be anything wrong about her feelings. Her friend, although equally unsure, made the unfortunate mistake of sharing Lourdes' feelings with her mother, who in turn, relayed the story to her less than understanding father. The magistrate threatened the Roviras, and Lourdes' own parents, although not condemning, feared for this perceived sin of their daughter's and entered her into the Convent of the Salesas Reales.

She spend several years in the convent, thinking nothing of her feelings anymore, devoting herself only to the sisterhood. But one faithful night, she chanced upon an intruder in the convent. A foreign woman, dressed in exotic, shadowy garbs, had snuck into the convent late one night, and Lourdes chose to help hide her instead of turn her in.

That woman, Bonhomme, would later whisk her away from the convent after their months-long courtship, and later become her wife.

Lourdes now lives in Algeria, has pursued a career in Agricultural sciences, raises falcons and is raisin their adopted daughter Djamila with her loving wife.
